O 5.0 OVERBURDEN
5.0 46.3 INTERMEDIATE METAVOLCANIC ROCKS:
Medium to dark grey; very siliceous; highly deformed and fractured, dominated by breccia and pseudo-breccia, consisting of light to dark grey fragments and wallrock blocks and layers in a fine
grained dark grey, felsic matrix; intense fracturing locally with fractures healed by chlorite +S- calcite +S- epidote; local calcite-quartz veinlets with associated pyrite and chalcopyrite; very weakly magnetic to 25.5 metres,
becoming moderately to strongly magnetic below this point.5.0 - 5.4: Badly broken, rubble.5.4 - 10.5: Medium grey, fine grained rock, highly fractured with generally fine epidote-calcite filled fractures forming an intense breccia. 10.5 - 11.6: Badly broken, fault zone. 11.6 - 15.0: Fractured and brecciated zone, similar to above ( 5.4 - 10.5 ) except cut by several narrow calcite-quartz-n-/- epidote +S- chlorite veinlets at very low angle to the C/A (0-10 degrees ); these veinlets include scattered ladder
veinlets on both sides as well as scattered chalcopyrite and pyrite; includes a 1.0 - 1.5 cm quartz veinlet at 15 degrees to the C/A from 14.5 - 14.7; the wall rock fragments in the lower 1.5 metres are hematized and faint orange-red. 15.0 - 18.6: Same as above ( 5.4 - 10.5 ). 16.5: A3 cm. quartz-epidote veinlet, irregular margins 75 - 85 degrees to C/A.18.6 - 19.2: Diorite dyke: Dark grey, fine grained,
massive, moderately magnetic; contacts irregular from 50 - 60 degrees to the C/A; includes a narrow ( 2 mm to l cm. ) calcite matrix breccia veinlet in
lower 5 cm. with coarse chalcopyrite 19.2 - 24.1: Breccia zone: Deformed; pale to dark grey green fragments and wallrock layers in a fine grained dark grey green, siliceous matrix; moderately fractured ( chlorite healed ) and cut by calcite-quartz +S- epidote +S- chlorite veinlets forming a mega breccia; abundant patches and deformed layers of pale green epidote; scattered
pyrite.24.6 - 26.7: Breccia zone: Cobalt type; narrow
calcite-chlorite +S- quartz veinlets and irregular
fracturing with associated pyrite and chalcopyrite;
includes a 10 to 20 cm. breccia zone at 25.5
consisting of dark grey green, chloritic rounded to
angular wallrock fragments with 'fuzzy' margins in a
cream coloured ankerite-quartz matrix; ankerite make
up 60% of zone, breccia extends into underlying
rocks, where ankerite decreases to less than 10%
until a narrow ( 2 cm. ) ankerite-quartz veinlet at
26.1; the latter contains 2% chalcopyrite as coarse
patches; remainder of zone has only trace sulphides;
fragments of wallrock are weakly hematized below
25.5; contacts vague; the overall colour of this
zone is light grey-green; the dominant direction of
the veining is 30 degrees to the C/A. 26.7 - 29.9: Deformed breccia zone similar to above
( 19.2 - 24.1 ) except chlorite fractures contain
calcite and magnetite as opposed to epidote in the
overlying section.29.9 - 31.0: Mafic Dyke: Fine grained, chloritic,
medium grey-green, scattered narrow calcite
veinlets; barren, with chloritic margins;
45 degrees to the C/A.31.0 - 33.6: Deformed breccia as above
( 26.7 - 29.9 ) .33.6 - 33.9: Mafic Dyke as above ( 29.9 - 31.0 );
35 degrees to the C/A.33.9 - 44.2: Breccia as above ( 31.0 - 33.6 ) but
less deformed overall and contains very few hairline
calcite filled fractures and veinlets; scattered
pyrite, trace chalcopyrite; strongly magnetic
to 40.9, weaker below this point. 44.2 - 44.4: Mafic Dyke: Similar to above
( 29.9 - 31.0 ); upper contact at 44 degrees to the
C/A, lower at 62 degrees.44.4 - 46.3: Breccia as above ( 33.9 - 44.2 ); very
siliceous; highly deformed; includes several very
narrow ( 1.5 mm. ) pinkish orange ankerite veinlets
with Cpy in the lower 0.3 metres; veinlets are from
30 to 50 degrees to the C/A.
46.3 57.4 QUARTZ VEIN:White and grey; greasy looking; coarse grained; up
to 5^ mafic ( chloritic ) inclusions filling
fractures as streaks and patches; also includes six
narrow mafic to intermediate wallrock xenoliths from
10 cm. to l metre wide, totalling 2.3 metres
( approximately 20% of zone ); the veining includes
scattered tiny fractures or gashes filled with
sulphides in the upper part ( pyrite and
chalcopyrite ) and with pyrite, magnetite and trace
chalcopyrite in lower part; there is also scattered
very fine patches of bronze to metallic colouredminerals; sulphides represent less than 1/2 of I*overall; upper contact is sharp at 22 degrees to theC/A; lower contact is broken; layering of wallrockxenolith and alignment of the majority of maficstreaks is from 20 to 45 degrees to the C/A.46.3 - 48.6: Quartz, less than X/2% chalcopyrite/pyrite as tiny gash fillings and patches withinmafic inclusions.48.6 - 49.2: Mafic xenolith; fine grained.49.2 - 49.5: Quartz vein, 101- mafic streaks.49.5 - 49.65: Mafic xenolith.49.65 - 49.8: Quartz vein.49.8 - 51.5: Mafic xenolith; minor quartz veining.51.5 - 51.7: Quartz vein.51.7 - 51.85: Mafic xenolith.51.85 - 53.1: Quartz vein; 3 - 4% mafic streaks andinclusions; minor pyrite, trace Cpy.53.1 - 53.3: Mafic xenolith.53.3 - 57.4: Quartz vein, l - 2% mafic streaks andinclusions; rare pyrite, scattered magnetite alongmafic inclusions and fractures.
57.4 75.0 DIORITE:Relatively massive; fine grained; medium grey green; scattered narrow ( l mm. to 3 mm. ) calcite veinlets and fracture fillings; weak breccia fabric locally in upper part yielding around 65.5 to a more massive phase; upper part may simply be more deformed; weakly magnetic throughout; local ( rare ) calcite- quartz-chlorite veinlets and fracture fillings with minor pyrite/chalcopyrite; scattered narrow ankerite veinlets in upper 60 cm.72.7 - 73.05: Fracture zone with quartz-calcite- chlorite veining, scattered pyrite as coarse patches
