St. Patrick’s Day…The one “green conscious” day of the year that trumps Earth Day but for entirely dif-ferent reasons. Gangs of people dressed to the gills in green clothing, wearing obscure hats and toting around their weight in green beads. It’s March’s version of Fat Tuesday, compliments of the Irish. As The Republic of Ireland’s National holiday, it is noth-ing more for Americans than an event to drink green beer, pinch each other and to let loose for a day. Why would you change a thing about it?

The beautiful thing about St. Patrick’s Day is that ev-eryone celebrates it, some better than others, but try to go anywhere in the U.S. on St. Patrick’s Day and there is bound to be someone celebrating it. There is a good chance that they might not even be Irish or they are “1/16th Irish.” That is what so great about it though…with exception of New Year’s Eve and Su-perbowl Sunday there isn’t another day celebrated in America with such vigor than St. Patrick’s Day. That is why Barmuda is 100% behind the celebration be-cause everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day and they have scheduled a full line up of specials that have something for everyone.

Each venue is doing something different to cel-ebrate the famous holiday. Voodoo Lounge and Bourre Lounge are featuring live music. Ice Lounge and Mojo’s Pizza House will be giving out free food and drinks with a pot of gold drawing. Joker’s will be giving out cash in leprechaun provocative dance contest. Beck’s has created a shirt to commemorate the event and those that purchase the shirt receive a free drink. Beck’s Sports Grill has now opened a loca-tion in Thunder Ridge in west Cedar Falls. The smallest of the three brands, this Beck’s is still able to serve as a family restaurant, sports bar or neighborhood watering hole. Andy Buelow, a former manager for Barmuda who moved back from Ohio, is the general manager of the new location.

“I am excited to be back with Barmuda and a leader for one of their properties,” says Buelow. “The new Beck’s will be a great addition to the community.”

Along with the new location, Beck’s has made a change to their menu. This is the first major overhaul on the menu since the original Beck’s opened ten years ago.

“The new menu is an insightful blend of old and new,” comments Matt Smiley C.O.O of Barmuda Companies. “We brought Chris to

the Beck’s brands to give our menu a little bit of a new perspective.” Chris Meyers was named Executive Chef of Beck’s in December and was an award-winning chef for Ferrari’s Ristorante and Park Place Event Centre prior to his new position.

“Basically, we cleaned up the menu a little bit by removing some of the items that were not doing very well. Then we added new items that will complement our award-winning burger and the customer favorites that were already in place,” explains Tara Smiley, vice president of restaurant operations.

A few of the new items to look for are the Buf-falo Shrimp, Steak Fajita Wrap, Beck’s Ribeye, Chicken Cordon Bleu and Cuban Sandwich. There are a total of 23 new items to choose from on the new menu, giving Beck’s fans some of their old favorites and an opportunity to find a new one.

As I sat down to write this article, a

number of songs and sayings passed

through my thoughts like my mind

was feverishly searching through the

“th-” section of an iTunes Rolodex.

Here are just a few of the gems:

1. “The thunder rolls and the lighting strikes!” - Garth Brooks

2. “Ah Ahhhh Ahhh Ahhh Ahh Thunder! Ahhhh Ahhh Ahhh Ahh Thunder!”- ACDC

3. “Thunder…Thunder…Thunder Cats! HHHHOOOOO!” - Battle cry of the 1980’s animated TV series, Thundercats. (That’s one for my fellow generation X’ers.)

A new feature that has been added to the Beck’s menu is the new Stay Fit menu. Beck’s partnered with Luann Alemao, FACS profes-sional/educator, speaker and media personality, to create the Stay Fit menu. The menu features items from the menu but it includes calorie, fat gram and sodium information. Customers can be conscientious of what they are eat-ing without sacrificing flavor. Look for the Stay Fit symbol in the menu to signify one of the items.

The new menu and Stay Fit menu are avail-able at all three locations now. Stop in today to give them a try.

Visit www.barmuda.com to see the new Beck’s Sports Grill Thunder Ridge website and to see the new menu.

Spring is right around the corner and everyone is hoping for the snow to thaw, but nothing gets people as heated as the NCAA Tournament. March Madness is going to run rampid in the Cedar Valley this year. The University of Northern Iowa Panthers have had a great year and are looking to be a part of the March Madness excite-ment. Beck’s is joining in with prize giveaways for all of the March Madness maniacs.

All three Beck’s locations, Beck’s Sports Brewery on Uni-versity, Beck’s Sports Grill on College Hill and the new Thunder Ridge location, are featuring a tournament bracket contest that will pay out cash to the winners and a new bingo game giving guests the chance to win free food and drinks and a StubHub gift card.

People interested in the bracket contest can fill out un-limited sheets for $5 each until noon on March 16th. Each location will run their own tournament and 100% of the money will be paid out to the top three finishers. Brack-ets will be entered into CBSSportsline.com so players can track their brackets.

Beck’s new March Mania Bingo game gives Beck’s guests the opportunity to win great prizes like a gift card to StubHub and free food and drinks. Participants must complete a bingo to be signed up for a chance to win prizes. To complete a bingo, they must complete a line of tasks that are on the card. The bingo cards are free and by watching each tournament round at Beck’s they can complete a bingo with no purchase necessary.

The NCAA tournament begins on March 18th and Beck’s will have DirectTV’s Mega March Madness so you can see all 64 March Madness games.

During the Lenten season, Barmuda is show-casing their seafood savvy with a lineup of specials at the restaurant locations. Some of the specials are just on Fridays while other lo-cations have created a new menu to enjoy any day. The Fabulous Seafood Specials are being offered until April 3rd.

Beck’s Sports Brewery on University, Beck’s Sports Grill on College Hill and the new loca-tion Beck’s Sport Grill at Thunder Ridge are having a fish fry. Every Friday is Fish Fry Fridays with all you can eat fish for $9.99.

The four gulf coast inspired items are Baked Parmesan Tilapia, Crawfish Ravioli, Cajun Honey Dijon Salmon and Almond Encrusted Red Snapper. Just because you are not leaving town doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy yourself in the beloved Cedar Valley. Who in their right mind would trade piles of snow and below-freezing temperatures, for sandy beaches, bright blue oceans and sun-tanned coeds? No one, that’s who! So that is why Soho Sushi Bar and Deli and The Stuffed Olive have developed Spring Break Staycation. A month loaded with specials and incentives for the community and VIP rewards members.

“This is a great opportunity to give extra incentives to our Rewards Members as well as students,” says General Manager Abby Lathan.

Just because spring break can’t happen in California or New York doesn’t mean you can’t get a taste of it.

The Stuffed Olive, known for their European influenced tapas and extensive martini list, is highlighting spring break week with a full week of fantastic drink specials.

“Events like this really give us the opportunity to do what we do best… martinis,” comments Lathan. “We like creating new recipes and putting customer favor-ites on special, it’s a lot of fun for the customers and staff. Especially with St. Patrick’s Day in the middle of the week.”

Visit Soho Sushi Bar and Deli and the Stuffed Olive to help you through your Winter blues and visit www.barmuda.com/sohoand www.barmuda.com/stuffed_olive for information on menus and specials.

SHAKE UP YOUR BONES, SHAKE UP YOUR FEETThe Dave Matthews Tribute Band to play in Voodoo Lounge

As the saying goes, “Imitation is the highest form of flattery” and if that’s the case the Dave Matthews Band must be blushing. On Thursday, March 11th, The Dave Matthews Tribute Band performs at Voo-doo Lounge in downtown Cedar Falls. The talented act out of Buffalo New York is the only nationally touring tribute to the Dave Matthews Band.

“I am excited,” says Scott Davis Director of Enter-tainment and the individual responsible for booking talent at the Barmuda locations. “The Dave Mat-thews Tribute Band prides themselves on sounding incredibly similar to the original multi-platinum en-semble.”

“We have so much respect for DMB and what they’ve been able to accomplish,” says lead singer

Ryan Clifford. “As fans, we love getting together with others to celebrate and give tribute to

DMB and their music.”

As a tribute band, Ryan Clifford (lead vocals and gui-tar), Lee Vacaro (bass guitar), Chris Whiteley (horns and vocals), and Benny Montegomery (drums and vocals) are not trying to be the Dave Matthews Band. They are giving fans a glimpse of the famous band before they started selling out stadiums and amphitheaters with the same energy and excite-ment but in an intimate setting.

“The whole basis of the band is to put on a musical play,” says Clifford. “We try to recreate the experi-ence you may get from the real band.”

The show starts at 9 p.m. in Voodoo Lounge, admission will be $10 and domestic bottles, rum and vodka drinks are on special for $2.50.

Bourré Lounge in Waterloo and Voodoo Lounge in Cedar Falls and Grinnell are introducing bottle service to their respective cocktail repertoires. Guests to the lounges will be able to pur-chase full bottles of liquor during an evening out with their parties.

Bottle service, originally adopted in large markets, has been sweeping the country for the last decade. Voodoo Lounge has implemented it into its late night beverage service much like Shags, Joker’s and Ice Lounge have been doing. “It is an opportunity for guests to get a taste of metropolitan flavor, here in the Cedar Valley, with out paying large city prices,” says Paige King, general manager of Bourbon Street and Voo-doo Lounge in Cedar Falls. “And it is just a fun way to have cocktails with a group of friends.”

All bottle service orders are provided with glassware, ice, two fillers, limes and lemons for guests and they can purchase a six-pack of Red Bull for $12. The liquors available for the lounge’s bottle service option are located on the back of the drink menu.

Establishments under the Barmuda Companies umbrella that offer bottle service will be priced and presented in similar fashion as to not give any one location a competitive advan-tage.

For more information about beverage service visit www.barmuda.com/voodoo or www.BourreLounge.com.

Joker’s Comedy Night Club has adjusted ticket prices for their live comedy show for the first time since moving to downtown Main Street in Cedar Falls. The comedy night club has lowered their prices to $8 in advance and $10 at the door.

“We made this decision based on a couple differ-ent variables,” explains Alex Meyer General Manager. “We understand the state of the economy and want people to be able to be entertained at an affordable price; and we wanted our prices to be comparable to a movie ticket.”

The price for a movie ticket according to the Marcus Theater’s website is $9 for the Waterloo and Cedar Falls location. “Why wouldn’t you want to see a live comedy show for $8? You don’t have to wear those glasses for it to be in 3-D or sneak alcohol in, it’s al-ready there,” laughed Meyer.

The schedule for upcoming shows can be found on the Joker’s website and tickets may be purchased for the $8 advanced ticket price there as well. Advanced tickets can be purchase at the door during normal business hours as well.

Sky Event Centre is opening their doors to the public on Thursday, March 11 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. This is an opportunity for the community to see the beautifully refurbished historical ballroom. “This is a perfect opportunity for those thinking about holding an event in Sky, to come and explore the ball-room and hospitality suite,” says Bridget Bryson, Sales and Events Director. “The Sky Event Centre is an intimate setting for weddings, receptions, parties, fundraisers and corporate functions.” The open house will furnish light refreshments for the guests and attendees will receive wonderful coupon offers for Roux Orleans Bourbon Street Grille and Bourre Lounge. “It truly is a beautiful room and people should take the opportunity to come see it,” comments Bryson. Sitting on the 8th floor of the Black’s Building, the view might be Sky’s most notable feature. “The ballroom and hos-pitality suite are beautiful and your guests will love it but it’s the view that everyone talks about,” says Bryson.
