IntroductionThank you for your interest in receiving support from Business in the Community’s Healthy High Streets programme. Launched in April 2014, the Programme aims to provide intensive corporate support to 100 high streets over a three year period supported by our corporate partners: Boots, Co-op, Marks & Spencer, Santander and Exterion Media.

Healthy High Streets aims to connect Corporate Businesses with established Town Centre Partnerships (including BIDs and Town Teams) to support town centre regeneration and growth, supporting community cohesion.

In the first year we took the programme to 33 towns across England, Wales and Scotland, and have already seen some encouraging results from our different high street partners working collaboratively, helping to create jobs, increase footfall, reduce the number of vacant units on the high street and return pride to our towns. Our network of high street champions are actively sharing knowledge and learning from across the year one towns to address the unique challenges their towns face.

We are now entering the Year Two recruitment round for joining the programme, before a final recruitment process in 2016 brings us up to 100 Healthy High Street towns. The application to join the programme is to be completed by the Town Centre partnership. You can find out more about the programme at http://www.bitc.org.uk/programmes/healthy-high-streets

The Healthy High Streets programme provides the following support to town centre partnerships through its three year support process:

It links local corporate business leaders with your partnership team to support the development/implementation of a unique vision and action plan for your High Street.

Provides a network of partners to support practical action on the ground to help increase footfall on the high street through a coordinated approach to events, car parking and opening hours, reduce vacant units, help create jobs and increase pride in your town.

Provides a set of KPIs to help measure progress in the town working towards its vision, helping to demonstrate the impact of its various initiatives.

It enables access to a broader range of professional support within the corporate partner businesses to help address local issues, e.g. marketing, communications, property, community engagement support etc.

Access to a broader network of expertise though Business in the Community’s business membership e.g. agents, landlords and digital etc.

Through our partnership with Exterion Media provides the opportunity for two selected towns a year to receive £25,000 worth of free bus advertising to support local marketing activities. In addition a year’s heavily discounted advertising is available for other towns.

Healthy High Streets is an initiative of Business in the Community, a business-led charity with over 850 members, including 75% of the FTSE 250.

What makes a successful applicationThere are three main selection criteria for joining the Healthy High Streets programme.

As our programme is supported by our corporate partners Boots, Co-op, Marks & Spencer, Santander and EE through local store managers, one of the selection criteria is that there is good representation from our business partners in your town.

We also look for a good partnership to be in place so that our local business leaders have a partner to get involved with straightaway.

Business in the Community is a charity so the selection would focus on those towns where there is the greatest social need, provided the first two criteria are met.
