The University of Western Australia’s

Faculty of Law was founded in 1927 and hosts

one of Australia’s premier Law Schools.

A disproportionately high number of The

University of Western Australia’s Law graduates

have gone on to distinguish themselves in their

chosen careers, whether that be legal practice,

the judiciary, government, business or politics.

The Law School has successfully sought to appoint to its staff academic lawyers who have established or are in the course of establishing, national and international reputations in teaching and/or legal research. Over the last decade we have adopted a deliberate policy of cultivating research and teaching strengths in specific areas of law, including socio-legal studies, natural resources law, consumer law, international law and intellectual property.

Staff, students and courses

The Law School has approximately 42 full-time equivalent (FTE) teaching and research academic staff, and 10 (FTE) professional staff.

In 2013 the Law School introduced a new graduate law degree, the Juris Doctor, which replaces the Bachelor of Law degree as the pathway to admission to legal practice. The School also offers undergraduate majors in Law and Society and Business Law, postgraduate coursework across Graduate Diplomas and Masters in Law, Commercial and Resources Law, and Criminal Justice, as well as in the Masters by Research, PhD and the SJD programs.
