Dear Conference Participants, Welcome to West Point, home of the world’s preeminent leader development institution! On behalf of the staff and faculty, thank you for being a part of the 15th West Point Diversity Leadership Conference at the United States Military Academy. At West Point, we develop leaders of character who are prepared to fight and win our nation’s wars. To that end, we develop leaders who are committed to building teams and establishing a command climate within their organizations where everyone is respected, everyone feels they are a valued added partner, and everyone feels safe and secure, both emotionally and physically. In order to develop winning, diverse, and inclusive teams, we need leaders who can leverage a broad spectrum of experience, talent, ideas and perspectives, as well as gender, ethnicity, faith or no faith, sexual orientation, education, geographic, and cultural backgrounds. Leveraging diversity leads to better teaching and learning, problem solving, and organizational readiness in all organizations. At West Point, strengthening that diversity also ensures we have the talent necessary to equip our graduates with the skills and competencies needed to lead a diverse and multicultural 21st century Army. As Superintendent, I am proud to lead a team of professionals who are dedicated to an organizational culture that values and leverages diversity that, in turn, creates the culture of winning and professional excellence needed to develop leaders of character. Thank you for being part of this conference and sharing your time and expertise. Your participation highlights your commitment to this work and to our goal of preparing tomorrow’s leaders for a diverse Army. Go Army! Robert L.
