CONGRATULATIONS
Dear Families,
Education Week
What an amazing job all our teachers and students do
on a daily and weekly basis!
Last week was Education week and the “Pop Up
Classrooms” were amazing.
A huge thank you to Mrs King-Jones with her choir who
also spent time serenading locals at IGA. The students in our
choir are fantastic and clearly the practice and enjoyment they
have shows through with the quality of performance.
Serenading through the aisles of the supermarket was
definitely another highlight for locals shopping last Friday
afternoon.
Grade 3/4 Camp - Billabong Ranch
Next week is the grade 3 & 4 Camp, this will be at
Billabong Ranch in Echuca and is a 3 day camp. Any student
not attending the camp is still required to attend school.
Billabong provides a huge variety of outdoor activities
for our students and is a great opportunity for them to develop
many independent skills and strengthen social connections.
Reconciliation Week
This week is Reconciliation week and we began the
week with Markiah Wise giving a “Welcome to Country” at
Assembly. He did a fantastic job and it was great to have
some of our local heritage reflected in the assembly. Some of
our classes will also be attending the Heritage Centre this
week as a part of the activities, as well, each class will be
participating in a number of programs that reflect
Reconciliation week. It is also worth popping into the office
and taking a look at the ‘Patterned Feet’ student paintings
reflecting Aboriginal art techniques and style.
R econciliation Week – 4/5 S & 3K
As part of reconciliation week
grades 4/5 S and 3K will be attending an
indigenous art exhibition at the Barmah
Heritage Centre tomorrow. The children
in these grades have been doing a unit of
work based on indigenous art in the art
room and so will be adding to their
learning in this area. If your child is in
one of these grades it would be
appreciated if they had no lunch orders
tomorrow as they will be having an early
lunch.

W inter Sports Report
Football
Last Friday, the grade 5/6 students played football against St Josephs in Numurkah. Unfortunately we lost by 9 goals. The
score was 9.6 to 2.1. Jye kicked 1 goal and Clay kicked 1 goal. We all played well, had fun and had a go. Many of our
players had never played a game of football before! St Joseph’s is mostly made up of Grade 6 students who had all played
football before. Gavin Goodie got an encouragement award playing his first game of football for Nathalia Primary School.
Next game we play we need to work on our talk and our tackling skills, but we all had fun!

Netball
On the 24/5/13 Nathalia Primary School had two groups of girls play a game of netball. We played St. Joseph's in
Numurkah. Most of the girls were nervous because it was there first time playing a game of netball, but we all played well
and we all had fun. The division 1 players were all of the grade 6s and Maddy who was brought up from division 2
because we didn't have Olivia at school that day. In division 2 the players were all the grade 5s and Jorja, who came to
play with us from Waaia. Unfortunately both of the teams lost the score for div1 was 5 to 31, and we don't know the score
for the division 2 team. Even though we lost we still had a lot of fun. Two people were given an award for having good
sportsmanship for their first game of netball, those people were Amy Modlic and Annie Holt. Next time we hope to be more
organised and we hope to practice more shooting skills.

E ducation Week – “Popup Classrooms” - 5/6J The air was fresh but the sun made it a bit
warm. We all sat on the cold metal seats with the sun glaring in our eyes, as the beautiful trees blowing cold air make a fingers cold and our writing become slower. There were lots of things to see and hear; like the motors on cars and the smell of petrol dripping from them. The Autumn trees that have yellow, orange and brown leaves swishing though the air every time a gush of wind blows. A Bendigo Bank sign with yellow, red and white writing. I can smell the hot chips from Al's Café with a big sign on the top of it saying ‘café’ and cars parked out the front. Some look dinted and shabby. The smell of the chips melts in my mouth. We learnt about describing words and adjectives so we went down the street to see what we could discover. An adjective is a describing word for example fat, pretty, ugly, funny. When you describe something you say everything about it. When we were walking back to school the slight fresh breeze on our faces was making it very cold. When we got back to school I thought about the many things I saw. The popup classroom was very fun and I enjoyed it a lot. - By Teagan Peterson The walk today was as quick as a minute. Nathalia’s Rotunda was where the class grade 5/6J set the small but efficient pop up class room. What we did was describe Nathalia using adjectives. The seats were hard and brutally cold, the ground we had was not any better, but a great inspiration to write with adjectives. The books we carried were light but slippery, we had to be careful crossing the road. Cars were zooming and branches were falling all we need is an adult to keep us all safe. We practiced adjectives to learn, we used the area around us as material. There were buildings, cars, trees everything we need to describe. Here I will describe a car for you. The flashing rims and bright paint makes that more than recognisable, the flame decals and hoodless top, it's fast, it's a sports car. It's not hard to write with adjectives, all you have to do is express what the item you are describing is, because you talk using adjectives every day . – by Gavin Goodie.
