January 2018 Dear FELT subscribers, Thank you for signing up for the annual newsletter. 2017 saw a total revamp of feltstudio.com. Check out recent interiors and exhibitions in the PROJECTS section; an edited selection of PRODUCTS and PRESS; and a new link in the ABOUT section to a collection of projects I completed from 1989 to 2000 that comprise a comprehensive survey of my background in visual art before founding FELT, all digitized from 35mm slides! I also started a blog in 2017. I don’t love the word blog, but accept that this is the going term for an online log which is pretty much what it is, and my passion project about the culture of felt with one Feature a year and a Column of bits about felt in the world of art and design. Last year’s Feature, Beaver Hats to Hockey Pads, I call my Canada 150 project, looks at the social history of felt in Canada from colonization to popular culture through its industries, institutions, customs and clichés. www.feltstudio.com/blog This past year was also marked by the launch of feltstudiomedia and my somewhat reluctant foray into social media. I use this account on Facebook and Twitter, but have come to embrace Instagram as my preferred platform for its visual pleasure. Follow @feltstudiomedia for FELT projects in process and in completion, FELT features, found felt, and aspects of felt in everyday life. Thank you to those of you who are already following! 2018 is starting off well with current wall projects for Shopify head offices in Ottawa, and the Scotiabank tower in Toronto. And, I’m just getting settled into teaching a course this term at Ryerson School of Interior Design about none other than felt! This year also kicks off with a new blog Feature, 365 Pieces of Felt, made up of daily posts over the course of the year. Robert Morris meets MacGyver at my house in a series of photographs of felt in everyday places that shows off its rich and broad materiality through playful and practical applications. See this project as a whole, as it unfolds, day by day on the feltstudio/blog or follow @feltstudiomedia on Instagram Twitter or Facebook Have a great year! Sincerely, Kathryn
