Dear Friends in Christ, One of the great blessings of our Church Family is the two strong music programs that not only involve so many parishioners, but programs that also beautifully elevate our weekend Masses. We are truly blessed—both before COVID-19 and also through the pandemic. In December 2019, Judy Good, our Director of Music and Liturgy for St. Ann Parish informed me that she would like to retire when she celebrated her birthday in 2021. While this was a shock, I completely understood Judy’s desires to spend more time with her family and more time traveling. After a little discussion, Judy agreed to stay on through Lent and Easter of 2021 and would retire on Pentecost 2021. I am sharing this now because a lot of work has gone into planning a smooth transition in order to ensure that the music and liturgy at St. Ann Parish continues at the same level we’ve become accustomed to. A key part of this transition includes naming Nate Herb as the Director of Music and Liturgy for both of our Parishes. Nate has worked closely with Judy for many years, they have a very close relationship — and friendship — and I am confident that he will continue the good work that has been done. I am sure there will be some questions like “what will Judy do?” or “how will Nate do both jobs?”. Judy has already agreed to regularly help lead the music for Power Hour and has expressed a desire to remain fully engaged with Choir, volunteering, and other ministries. She has also hinted that she will continue to “volunteer” Jeff for various jobs around the Parish as well—thanks be to God! In regards to Nate, we have already begun to shuffle responsibilities in order to ensure that both Parishes can continue to have strong music programs and beautiful liturgies. We are very fortunate to have so many parishioners who are engaged and willing to help whenever there is a need. Again, we have had some time to work through this change and how it will affect our Parishes, but I am confident that we can make it through because of the great people on our staff and in our Parishes. Many aspects of this transition have already begun, so thank you in advance for your help and patience as we work through the changes. While I will say more in the future about Judy—and canonize her at a later date to be determined—I hope you will join me in thanking her for her generous commitment to our Parishes and to our mission of growing in holiness together. Please don’t wish her a happy retirement yet, because the busiest time of the year is right around the corner with Lent and Easter, but we will find an appropriate time to celebrate her closer to Pentecost. A huge thanks to Judy and Nate, and to all of our music ministers for your dedication and willingness to share your God-given gifts and talents with our Church Family. God bless! In Christ, Fr. Michael Roemmele Pastor

The successful candidate should also have a high school diploma. Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, resumé, and references to Nancy Patterson at [email protected]. There are still extra copies of the 2021 calendars and Mother Teresa books handed out at Christmas available in both parish offices.

St. Ann and St. Joseph Catholic Parishes are always grateful for our parishioners support. In 2021 we’d like to begin to recognize and publicly thank those members who include their parish as a recipient of memorials. St. Ann parish would like to thank the family of Phyllis Frampton for listing her church family as a recipient of memorials. Please consider joining us in continuing to pray for the repose of her soul and for continued consolation for her family during their time of loss.

You know how you can look at an organization and see things get done and you can't really see how they are done and who is doing it? Us, too. One of the folks that is in the middle of this at St. Joseph is Jeff Overmyer. Jeff is one of our group of great ushers. During this time of response to COVID, the ushers work each Mass to help ensure seating for Mass attendees while helping to maintain proper social distancing along with sanitizing and other things. Jeff works with other ushers to document our Mass attendance and take care of the Offertory, ensuring that it is carefully collected and secured. In addition, Jeff has been an integral part of our Welcome Committee, helping to greet Mass-goers and ensure that their experience at St. Joseph is the best it can be. He has helped out with some of the activities like Name Tag Sunday and going out of his way to help with multiple Masses this past Christmas. When you see Jeff around at Mass, please take the time to thank him for his invaluable contributions to a positive experience on our weekends!

Did you know that within the Catholic Church, January is traditionally dedicated to the Holy Name of Jesus?

Let us join together and pray for His mercy!

Prayer to the Holy Name - St. Alphonsus

O my Jesus, Thou art the Savior who hast given Thy blood and Thy life for me, I pray Thee to write Thy adorable name on my poor heart; so that having it

always imprinted in my heart by love, I may also have it ever on my lips, by invoking it in all my necessities. If the devil tempts me, Thy name will give me strength to resist him; if I lose confidence, Thy name will animate me to hope; if I am in affliction, Thy name will comfort

me, by reminding me of all Thou hast endured for me. If I find myself cold in Thy love, Thy name will inflame me

by reminding me of the love Thou hast shown me. I have fallen into so many sins, because I did not call on Thee; from henceforth Thy name shall be my defense,

my refuge, my hope, my only consolation, my only love. Thus do I hope to live, and so do I hope to die,

having Thy name always on my lips. Amen.

When Jesus preached the gospel message he called others to follow as his disciples and he gave them a mission - "to catch people for the kingdom of God." What kind of disciples did he choose? Smelly fishermen! In the choice of the first apostles we see a characteristic feature of Jesus' work: he chose very ordinary people. They were non-professionals, had no wealth or position. They were chosen from the common people who did ordinary things, had no special education, and no social advantages. Jesus wanted ordinary people who could take an assignment and do it extraordinarily well. He chose these individuals, not for what they were, but for what they would be capable of becoming under his direction and power. When the Lord calls us to serve, we must not think we have nothing to offer. The Lord takes what ordinary people, like us, can offer and uses it for greatness in his kingdom. Do you believe that God wants to work in and through you for his glory? Jesus speaks the same message to us today: we will "catch people" for the kingdom of God if we allow the light of Jesus Christ to shine through us. God wants others to see the light of Christ in us in the way we live, speak, and witness the joy of the Gospel. Paul the Apostle says, But thanks be to God, who in Christ Jesus always leads us in triumph, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere. For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing (2 Corinthians 2:15). Do you witness to those around you the joy of the Gospel and do you pray for your neighbors, co-workers, and relatives that they may come to know the Lord Jesus Christ and grow in the knowledge of his love?

RESPONSORIAL PSALM: Teach me Your ways, O Lord.

ENTRANCE ANTIPHON: O Sing a new song to the Lord; sing to the Lord, all the earth. In his presence are majesty and splendor, strength and honor in his holy place.

1. Come, Christians, join to sing

Alleluia! Amen!

Loud praise to Christ our King;

Alleluia! Amen!

Let all, with heart and voice,

Before his throne rejoice;

Praise is his gracious choice:

Alleluia! Amen!

2. Come, lift your hearts on high;

Alleluia! Amen!

Let praises fill the sky;

Alleluia! Amen!

He is our guide and friend;

Our cry he will attend;

His love shall never end:

Alleluia! Amen!

3. Praise yet our Christ again;

Alleluia! Amen!

Life shall not end the strain;

Alleluia! Amen!

On heaven’s joyful shore

His goodness we'll adore,

Singing forevermore:

Alleluia! Amen!

COME, CHRISTIANS, JOIN TO SING

Will you come and follow me

If I but call your name?

Will you go where you don’t know

And never be the same?

Will you let my love be shown,

Will you let my name be known,

Will you let my life be grown

In you and you in me?

Lord, your summons echoes true

When you but call my name.

Let me turn and follow you

And never be the same.

In your company I’ll go

Where your love and footsteps show.

Thus I’ll move and live and grow

In you and you in me.

Taste and see, taste and see

the goodness of the Lord.

O taste and see, taste and see

the goodness of the Lord, of the Lord.

I will bless the Lord at all times. Praise shall

always be on my lips;

my soul shall glory in the Lord for God has

been so good to me.

Glorify the Lord with me.

Together let us all praise God's name.

I called the Lord who answered me; from all

my troubles I was set free.

Worship the Lord, all you people.

You'll want for nothing if you ask.

Taste and see that the Lord is good;

in God we need put all our trust.

We are called, we are chosen.

We are Christ for one another.

We are promised to tomorrow,

while we are for him today.

We are sign, we are wonder.

We are sower, we are seed.

We are harvest, we are hunger.

We are question, we are creed.

Then where can we

stand justified?

In what can we believe?

In no one else but he who suffered,

nothing more than he who rose.

Who was justice for the poor.

Who was rage against the night.

Who was hope for

peaceful people.

Who was light.

Then how are we to stand at all,

this world of bended knee?

In nothing more than barren shadows.

No one else but he could save us.

Who was justice for the poor.

Who was rage against the night.

Who was hope for peaceful people.

Who was light.
