Dear Grandma Jo,

Because it’s Mother’s Day, we wanted to write to tell you what a wonderful grandma you are and how much we love you.

So we started working on a letter.

If we don’t say so ourselves, we have some skills with pens! Our letter is very colorful, and we think it really sums things up quite well:

What?

You can’t read that?

Figures. We should have known when you didn’t understand what Kate was trying to tell you on the airplane on the way home from Mexico. Adults!

But no worries. We figured a multimedia presentation might be necessary for this. Besides, paper and markers are soooo 2010.

So here goes. . .

Page 5: Dear grandma jo

Here you are in the hospital right before we were born, cramming to learn about twins and how to be the best grandma ever.

Page 6: Dear grandma jo

All that studying and all those years of waiting to be a grandma must have paid off, because you were an expert right from the start!

Page 7: Dear grandma jo

Thank goodness you were there to help Mama and Dada at the beginning. Don’t tell them, but they had no idea what they were doing. They definitely couldn’t have done it without you.

Page 8: Dear grandma jo

They were so thankful for all the help with cooking, cleaning, shopping, and feeding us. We were thankful that you made them take us outside! And that you played with our toes.

Page 9: Dear grandma jo

Since then, we have been so glad to see you when you come to visit us in Seattle!

Page 10: Dear grandma jo

Sometimes, we are lucky enough to get to visit you in Portland. Mama and Dada are very thankful for the help. We’re not sure why, but apparently taking care of us can be tiring. Mostly, we love your Tupperware drawer. . .

Page 11: Dear grandma jo

. . .and your brown dog. . . (Arf! Arf!)

Page 12: Dear grandma jo

. . .and the access to sweets.

No need to tell Mama and Dada about that sort of thing. They think the strawberry ice cream in Mexico was an anomaly.

Page 13: Dear grandma jo

Have we mentioned that you give us the very best presents?

Page 14: Dear grandma jo

Did you learn to pick them out in Grandma school? Or maybe in those books you were reading before we came?

Page 15: Dear grandma jo

Our favorite thing is to play with them with you.

Sometimes, it is magical and your presents arrive in the mail! *

* Not that we are angling for presents or anything, but we just wanted to mention that our address is 1700 26th Ave, Seattle, WA, 98122. And Kate wants a pony.

Another reason you are an amazing grandma is your keen fashion sense. You find some of our favorite pieces. . .

Page 18: Dear grandma jo

. . .and you inspire some of our best ensembles.

Here Erin models a look from the Winter 2010 collection.

Mostly, though, we love you because you always show us how much you love us, Mama, and Dada, by doing things like coming to Mexico with us to help them take care of us and make sure they had time to relax. Wasn’t that fun?

We love you so much. Happy Mother’s Day!

Love,Kate and Erin

P.S. We almost forgot! We promised we’d let Mama say something.

Mom,

I’m so grateful for everything you have done for me over the years, and particularly over the whirlwind of the last year and a half. I know that I don’t tell you enough that you are an incredible mom and grandma, and I’m so lucky to have you.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Love,

Darby
