(Hebrews 10:24-25) The writer to the Hebrews is adamant that as Christians, we are not to give up meeting together. As a hot coal loses its heat when it is removed from the fire, so we as Christians need to be surrounded by other Christians to ensure our growth in Christ and our faith in Him are maintained. Christianity is not a solo experience. At Kuyper, building a strong Christian community is one of our priorities. Apart from this, the outworking of our meeting together is that we spur one other on toward love and good deeds. As well as this, when we meet together we encourage one another. This was the crux of the Bible time for our inaugural “LimeTime” primary Bible group meeting last Tuesday. Every Tuesday lunch time, Years 3 to 6 are invited to join Mr Hottinger and some enthusiastic high school leaders from Years 7 to 12. We hang out around a Bible talk, small groups, some games and (of course) food. Many Kuyper families are involved in church or youth group, and here at LimeTime we are committed to meeting each week in a similar way, to live out what the writer to the Hebrew Christians is calling us to. Another benefit of the group is that it provides an opportunity for primary students to get to know Christian high schoolers and vice- versa. Breaking off into small groups after the talk allows this on a smaller scale and will add to our already strong sense of community here at Kuyper. To be able to hold groups like this at school is a privilege that we should not underestimate, especially in our current social climate. We have an opportunity to open God’s word and share its truths with young people. Please pray for us as we do this important Kingdom work. Every blessing, Mike Hottinger Chaplain

Thursday 22 March 2018 Dear Parents & Friends of Kuyper,

…And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day

approaching. (Hebrews 10:24-25)

The writer to the Hebrews is adamant that as Christians, we are not to give up meeting together.

The Whitworth family have 6 baby chicks that they would like to find a new home for. They have been hand-raised and are of uncertain breed and sex. Contact the Office if you would like them. Grandparents’ Day is on Wednesday 11 April from 11am. We will need your help with catering Morning Tea. Look out for the invitation, which will be emailed shortly!

Prayer & Praise

Give thanks for the rain feeding the land. Give thanks for the wonderful experiences God

provides in community. Pray for LimeTime on Tuesdays that many students

would enjoy fellowship, fun and connection around God’s Word.

Pray for our community leading up to Easter, that the message of Jesus’ sacrifice and love for us would be heard loud and clear.

Continue to pray for the Miller family. Pray for healing, strength and peace for the journey.

Pray for staff members who are unwell or who have close family members who are very unwell.

Pray for Purple Day that it would be fun, informative and productive.

Meet Maddison Alberts, Maddie is in Year 8 and comes from a family of dancers. Her mother is a tap dancer and her sisters are dancers too. Over many years she has enjoyed jazz, tap, ballet, lyrical, hip hop, contemporary and acrobatics dance. This was until about 12 months ago when Maddie had to make a choice between her dancing and her love of horses. Dancing and horse riding both require many hours of training and there just weren’t enough hours in the day for her to do both. Maddie chose her horses.

Maddie has a white Arabian Pony named Colin and two miniature ponies named Emmie and Forest. As well as her own horses, she rides, trains, grooms and shows other people’s horses for them too. In the upcoming weeks Maddie will be at the Sydney Royal Easter Show and the Hawkesbury Show competing in the equestrian events. Her favourite equestrian event is show jumping. Her least favourite thing to do is clipping the horses’ coats in preparation for shows. Her goals for the future include becoming a professional equestrian rider and training troubled horses. She has a heart for horses that are ‘difficult’ or have been mistreated and wants to give them a second chance.

Maddie has had great success in the arena in the past and we wish her all the best for her upcoming events. Maybe one day we will be cheering you on at the Olympics Maddie! Well Done!

Greetings Kuyper Families, On behalf of Epilepsy Action Australia, K/1 and myself are asking if you would be able to support Purple Day – International Epilepsy Awareness Day – on Monday 26th March 2018. We would love it if you can show your support for people living with epilepsy by getting involved at Kuyper. There are schools around the world that get involved each year and we would love to see that happen throughout Australia. It would be fantastic if all Kuyper students would join us on 26 March 2018. Over 55% of Australians (13.2 million people!!) know someone with epilepsy, and around 65 million people are affected worldwide. This is a cause close to the hearts of a huge number of people, especially in our own community; the family of Ryder Lucas, one of our Year 1 students, and for me personally, with my brother. Epilepsy is a seizure disorder that can affect anyone at any time, regardless of age, gender, level of intelligence, culture or background. It is estimated that over 800,000 people in Australia will be diagnosed with epilepsy at some stage in life with sadly, 40% will never be able to stop or control their seizures. Epilepsy is three times more common than Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease and Cerebral Palsy, yet it is still a condition that is not well known and often misunderstood. Epilepsy Action Australia’s mission, is to achieve optimal living for people with epilepsy and we would like to help to support the thousands of Australians across the country who are impacted by the condition. Purple Day allows a great opportunity to raise awareness and funds for this cause. Kuyper students can be involved by: Dressing in Purple for a gold coin donation. Mrs Thornton will be in her element! Buying a cupcake for Recess from the K/1 Cupcake Stall. K/1 and I really hope that you can get involved and show your support on this important day. Sue Huxley Supporter of Epilepsy Action Australia
