Dear Parishioners, On the first Saturday of July, after the 4pm Vigil Mass, we are going to offer the opportunity for you to receive the Anointing of the Sick. The Sacrament is always available individually, but we want to highlight the Sacrament by having it available on a regular basis. We are looking at offering anointing once a month. Many people misunderstand this sacrament, thinking that they can only receive an anointing when they are near death. In reality, it is one of the first things that we should seek when we are sick. Who can offer the Anointing of the Sick? The Priest. Who can receive the Anointing of the Sick? Anyone who has reached the age of reason with a serious physical or psychological illness. Anyone who is elderly if they have experienced a significant decline in strength. Under this circumstance, one does not need to be seriously ill. When can you receive the Anointing of the Sick? Whenever you realize that you are seriously ill. Whenever you are facing surgery, provided that you are undergoing surgery for a serious reason. Whenever there is a significant negative change in the current illness. Whenever an illness stays the same, but continues for a long duration. Whenever the same illness returns. Whenever you discover a new serious illness. Please remember that when Jesus healed the paralytic in the Gospel, He forgave the paralytic’s sin before he healed him physically. The Church recommends going to the Sacrament of Confession prior to receiving the Anointing of the Sick. If a person is not in a State of Grace because of mortal sin, they should not receive the Anointing of the Sick until they have gone to Confession. When a person is dying and cannot communicate, and there is a presumption that they would want to reconcile their lives with God and His Church, the priest can still anoint the individual. The power to absolve sin – like Confession - can come through the Anointing of the Sick in this circumstance, since the individual cannot communicate and one would presume that they would want to be reconciled with the Church. Confession is offered Wednesday from 5-7pm, Saturday from 3pm to 3:45pm and Sunday from 4-4:45pm. Fr. Dan and I want you to know that we pray for you daily and are here to help you get to Heaven! Pray for your priests and deacons, and for vocations! Fr. Beau

The National Collection for the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS) is a triennial collection approved by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) in 2012 and first taken in 2013. It will be taken up in the Archdiocese of New Orleans on the weekend of June 13-14, 2020. There are many organizations that support U.S. military and their families, but there is no other diocese or non-profit organization like the Archdiocese of the Military Services USA, which provides the same pastoral care and services as any other Catholic diocese, to Catholics serving in the United States Armed Forces, enrolled in U.S. Military Academies, undergoing treatment at any of the 153 Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Centers in the U.S., Puerto Rico and Guam, working in civilian jobs for the federal government beyond U.S. borders, and the families of these populations. You may visit https:// www.milarch.org/ways-to-support/ for more information.

SAINT ROMUALD (c. 951-1027) Feast Day: June 19 “God so loved the world,” declares John 3:16. “Do not love the world,” warns 1 John 2:15. The “world” to love: this planet, entrusted to our stewardship, and its people, God’s children all. The “world” to flee: “sensual lust, enticement for the eyes, and a pretentious life” (1 John 2:16). Born in nobility, Romuald’s conversion followed the shock of witnessing his father murder an enemy. Renouncing his privileged world, Romuald sought God’s world in monastic life. Its winding turns and several dead ends make Romuald’s journey resonate with all who find life more maze than superhighway. Both the hermit’s solitary struggle and community life’s unique challenges shaped Romuald’s legacy: his vast Camaldolese Benedictine family of monks, nuns, and lay associates who, these thousand years later, from the mountain solitude of Camaldoli, Italy to an urban monastery in Berkeley, California—in Asia, Africa, South America, Europe—integrate Romuald’s experience into their witness of solitary prayer, communal charity and worship, and promotion of contemplative spirituality in this world that can so easily distract us from the God who loves it still. —Peter Scagnelli, Copyright © J. If God’s people vote pro-life, then one year from today, we could see Planned Parenthood completely defunded. We can see the Supreme Court more solidly pro-life than it is now. We can see babies in the womb fully protected from dismemberment abortion, other late-term abortion procedures and fewer abortions altogether.
Baptism– Celebrated on the 2nd Sunday of each month after the 11:00 a.m. Mass, excluding the season of Lent. Confirmation– Celebrated in the Junior year of High School. Classes begin in August. Marriage– Please contact a priest at least 6 months prior to the anticipated date of marriage. Anointing of the Sick– Please call the parish office to arrange a visit by a priest. Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion can also deliver Holy Communion to the homebound. Funeral– Contact the parish office to meet with our Funeral Ministry in preparation for the Funeral Liturgy.
