Dear Readers of TAN Welcome back to Term Four! As we head into the spring/summer term it is great to see people wearing sunhats and keeping hydrated. It is very important, especially for us seniors, to keep up the study habits and push ourselves to be the best we can be, as externals are less than three weeks away. Work hard, and see you next week!

Road Safety Petition I have started a petition on change.org
about the dangerous T intersection at the
Mount Cook turn-off. I am asking that the
current Give Way status is changed to a
Compulsory Stop, and that drivers coming
off the Aoraki Mount Cook road are alerted
of the approaching intersection with a
flashing sign.
The petition has been shared on
Twizel Facebook pages but can also be
accessed by searching
change.org dangerous tourist road
Almost 400 people have signed in less than
48 hours, which indicates this is an issue
many are feeling strongly about.
Please consider signing and encouraging
others to do so.

NCEA Exams are on at Twizel Area School
from 9th—27th of November. The area
around the Exam Room (MPR) will be
cordoned off and students, parents and
visitors are respectfully asked to show
consideration to our candidates by avoiding
the area where possible, and by keeping
traffic and noise to a minimum over the
entire exam period.
Thank You
Kia Ora and Welcome to TAN Welcome back to school for the spring term: the term that goes like a rocket. It is already warming up outside so it is timely to remind people about sun protection. Sun hats in particular need to be worn outside and these are available online from NZ Uniforms. Go to school /Headwear/ Safari Wide Brim (Navy)
A special welcome goes out to new students Amy Gao (Y1), Jacob Fox-Smith (Y2), James Honeybone (Y4), Jake Fitzsi-mons (Y5). We know you will be being made welcome, and making new friends!
On Tuesday evening we had a Course Confirmation evening and a good proportion of parents, caregivers and students turned up to hear what was on offer next year, and discuss choices with teachers. The students write down their pre-ferred options and then we write next year’s timetable to opti-mise the choices. Some students will still be discussing these with parents, and we ask you to bring your selections in tomor-row, if possible. It looks as if we will have forty Year 11-13 students next year- a new record!
We ask that anyone with children at any year level who are thinking of leaving the area (or arriving!) please let us know via the Office - it would help make our planning more accurate. Thank you.
There will be syndicate newsletters going home shortly, with particular news for your area, but I would like to remind sen-iors that it is three weeks until exams and, as I mentioned at Monday assembly, the best antidote to stress is preparation!
Hard Labour Weekend: It seems as if half the school will be tied up with this as partici-pants, organisers, or marshals, so we wish all those people a fine and ‘just the right level of excitement’ weekend. The mon-ey raised from this goes a long way to help our children’s sporting activities, including Snow Club, rowing and netball. School will of course be closed on Monday, to commemorate the establishment of the forty hour working week.
Coming up next week is Book Week with some bed time story telling in the Library on Wednesday evening and a book char-acter Dress Up Day on the Friday. (See details elsewhere in TAN). The first of the Junior School camps get underway next Wednesday, with Room 4 heading to Tekapo. Do YOU have a Growth Mindset??
We do in Room 8! Here's how to develop a growth
mindset:
Growth mindset means that you keep trying, and fixed mindset means that you don't keep trying and
you give up.
Our dendrites grow bigger when you discover some-thing new, and when you
think. When you make a mis-take your brain grows.
It's okay to make a mistake because you learn from it. If
you don't make mistakes you won't learn.
You have to keep trying. If it's too hard, try to do it a different way!
