Volume 14, Issue 14 Friday, September 13, 2019 Dear School Family, Last week we held
our annual
Thanksgiving Chapel,
with an official
opening of our
Covered Outdoor
Learning Area as well
as the newly refurbished Science
Laboratory. Thank you to our guests who
attended. It is an important event in the
life of Temple where we get to honour
those who have made significant
contributions to our community.
The service was a wonderful celebration
and a great opportunity to be thankful for
God’s incredible provision. Our Prefects
were able to thank the various levels of
Government, Associations, professional
services, groups and individuals who have
significantly contributed to the life of
Temple.
It was a special time to honour Mr Brian
Hagger who retired as Headmaster of
Temple in 2006. He was recognised in the
Australia Day honours this year and also
celebrated his 80th Birthday.
Being thankful is an important part of our
life in Christ. We are not necessarily
thankful for the situations we are in or
circumstances that are occurring around
us. Life can be very difficult and at times
even tragic. In the midst of these
situations we can still be thankful for
God’s never ending love and grace in our
lives. We can be thankful that God is good
all the time and that we can trust Him. We
are not thankful for all situations but we
can be thankful in all situations.
It is exciting to see the East Building
Extension project well underway, with
pouring of the first floor slab happening
earlier this week. Very soon the roof will
be on, and we look forward to seeing
progress throughout the rest of the year.
There is a great view from the current
Student Learning Hub, and we’re really
starting to see how well the new spaces
will connect in with our current facilities.
Congratulations to Mrs McMahon and the
Year 9 & 10 Dance classes, on a
wonderful showcase event last week. The
students really persevered towards putting
on their most polished performance, and
we really appreciate the effort Mrs
McMahon puts in to give these classes an
opportunity to showcase their hard work.
We look forward to finishing this term off
with some Year Level excursions for
students in years 8 to 10. As we head
towards the final stretch, I would
encourage students to consider
nominating themselves for a Character,
Service, Influence Award if they haven’t
already received one this year.

Announcing an ‘Evening at the Oscars’. This is a new event to our school,
and its purpose is to acknowledge, celebrate and award Performing Arts
students in Years 10-12. We have included one award for Best Film Score
Composition in Year 9. Students are nominated for an award based on
their results. A bit like the Oscars, people are invited because they are
nominated and the winners are announced during the evening’s proceed-
ings.
There will be an MC, photographer, and videography throughout the even-
ing. The evening will consist of some student work being displayed, and
the Year 11 class band will be performing items throughout the evening, in between awards being announced. Food will be
served by our school Food and Hospitality team under the guidance of Miss Annie Mott.
The evening is an invitation only event.
When? Thursday 26th September at 6.00pm (Week 10), arrival on the red carpet from 5.20pm.
This is a red carpet event, and therefore requires all nominated students to dress accordingly (ie. girls in formal dresses/
smart dresses either long or knee length, and boys in shirt, tie and formal pants). Smart formal dress applies to parents
and friends purchasing tickets also. The presentation of the entire evening is to honour and celebrate our beautiful artistic
students.
If you have received a letter via email regarding this event, then your child has been nominated. Please ensure you pur-
chase your tickets via the Trybooking website link on your letter. Tickets cannot be purchased at the door.
From Mr Marcel Rijken:
Our team for Cambodia will be leaving on Monday,16 September, and will be away for 2 weeks. From Paralowie Campus, Pheavarth Hean is attend-
ing the trip. This year the team will be led by Mr Brad Adams and the other staff members are Mrs Tracy Montesi, Mrs Shannalee Mulder, Mr Todd
Purdy and Mr Mark Ryan. Please pray for the team over the next 2 weeks.
The term is drawing quickly to a close. Planning is well underway for next year as we have now received all the subject selections from students who
will be in Years 9 to 12 in 2020. Our current Year 12 students only have 2 weeks in Term 4 before they go on study leave followed by their final exter-
nally set examinations. Please continue to pray for our Year 12 students as they complete their final assessment tasks and prepare for their examina-
tions. They have been a wonderful blessing throughout this year and great encouragers to the other students.
Prayer Chain If you are in need of prayer, please email Linda Hunter at [email protected] and she will add your prayer need to the prayer list.
Information will be kept confidential and no names are sent out on the Prayer Chain unless specifically requested. If you would like to pray for
the specific needs of the school at home, please email Linda Hunter at the address above to be added to receive the Emailed Prayer List.
PARENTS AND FRIENDS REGIFT BOX As a Parents and Friends committee, we fundraise, and use the money we raise to improve areas in
the school for the students.
Previous projects we have funded are: the heaters under the verandas, a refrigerated drink fountain, a
cover over the bike rack and the digital clock for the courtyard.
We would like to ask for your help in providing items for our next gift baskets for raffle, and give you an
opportunity to clear our some items from your home.
If you have any unopened but unwanted gifts or items at home that you would like to donate, could you bring them in to
the school front office and place them in the Re-gift Box. The box will be in the front office until the end of this term.
Dance Showcase 2019 On Wednesday the 4th of September, the Year 9 & 10 Dancers, plus Meg from year 11, performed their amazing dances
learnt throughout the year. The dancing styles were Jazz Ballet, Reggaeton and Contemporary. There was a mixture of
whole class items and solo performances by Meg, Chelsea, Jada and Isabella, plus duos by Chelsea and Meg, BopPha
and Makalah, Jenny and Isabella, and Chelsea and Jada. Students showcased their own choreography, my choreography
and routines from their other technique teachers Piter (Reggaeton Teacher) and Sarah (Contemporary Teacher). For
many of the year 9s, it was their first time performing in front of such a large crowd with makeup, quick costumes changes,
and stage lighting. Thankyou to Mr Daughtry, Amy and Leanne who did a great job with the lighting and sound for the stu-
dents. Thank you teachers, parents and audience for all your wonderful support.

Year 12 Food and Hospitality
The Year 12 Food and Hospitality class held their annual Parent/Staff Dinner on Tuesday 26 August. The theme of the
night was Christmas and the Bethany Function Centre was transformed into the “Red Lodge” for the evening. Students
prepared a 6 course meal for diners with all profits being donated to the Operation Christmas Child program.

40 Hour Famine Congratulations to all those students (and staff) who went without food, speech,
furniture or possessions for a period of 40 hours, all to raise money as part of the 40
Hour Famine Backpack Challenge. This will support the work of World Vision
across the globe. A total of 99 students participated, who all enjoyed a pizza lunch
at the end, and who have raised over $2000 thus far. Miss Mott prepared hun-
dreds of delicious brownies, which were sold to students and staff as an additional
fundraiser. Well done to everyone who participated, and thanks to everyone who
bought a brownie!

Basecamp On Friday 23rd August, the Year 11 Physical Education and Year 11 Sport &
Recreation classes attended Basecamp, an indoor obstacle gym in Royal
Park. The Sport & Recreation students have been physically and mentally
preparing for the excursion, by planning and conducting training programs in
their lesson time. During the excursion, the personal trainer ran the students
through exercises that physically and mentally challenged them, and challeng-
es that required the students to demonstrate teamwork and leadership. Credit
must go to the students for working well together, for their approach to the
challenges and for the leadership that was shown throughout.

Open Boys & Girls Football On Thursday 22nd August, our Open Boys & Girls Footy teams travelled to West Beach to compete in the SACSA Carnival.
In what eventuated to being a tough day, both teams competed well throughout the day. The boys battled hard in all
games, and were well and truly in the hunt in every game, but unfortunately didn’t come away with the chocolates at all.
With Josh Wilshire being our sole Year 12 student, the rest of the team comprised of Year 10 students and were able to
learn a lot throughout the course of the day. Most Valuable Player went to Tyler Sobey for his hard running and relentless
efforts. Our girls outperformed the boys, finishing 3rd overall. The girls performed well throughout the whole day, and
demonstrated a desire to win the contested ball and push through adversity. Kayla Horn led the way for the girls, as did
Wathana Chhen. Special mention must go to Dylan Miles and Wathana Chhen, who both came off second best during
different contests. Both of these students unfortunately copped injuries from the day, but credit must go to them for the
way that they have approached their respective circumstances.
Sam Agnew, Steph Thompson and Miss Jones.
All Schools Mixed Touch On Thursday of Week 6, we took two teams to the All Schools Mixed Touch competition.
This was an Open competition, competing against predominantly Year 12 teams. Over the
two teams, we had a spread of age groups; with 4 Year 12s, 6 Year 11s and 6 Year 10s.
The second team played very well throughout the day, improving with every game played.
They ended up finishing 8th overall, playing their best games towards the end of the day.
The first team was undefeated after the round games, finishing top of their pool. They made
it through to the semi-final and were competitive throughout the whole game, coming back
from a 2-0 deficit at one stage. Unluckily, Marryatville scored after the siren to win 4-3 and
make it through to the grand final, with our team finishing 3rd overall. We are very proud of
all the efforts of those who came on the day!
