Dear Year 1 learner,
This document contains the work for Week 5 - 6 for Term 2.
The work consists of 4 sections namely:
1. Listening and Speaking
2. Reading and Viewing
3. Writing and Presenting
4. Language Structure and Conventions
Remember the following:
• Complete all the activities/answers in a separate book or on a sheet of paper.
• Write the heading, week, date and activity for every activity you do e.g.

Listening and Speaking
Listen to a fable.
Read the notes below about fables and answer the questions that follow.
Activity 1
In your notebook
1. Name a fable that you enjoy reading.
2. Ask your parent, guardian or sibling to read it for you once again.
3. List the events that are realistic and the ones that are unrealistic.

Reading and Viewing
Reads a fable.
Before reading the story, look at the title and pictures.
Predict what the story is about.
Ask your parents to read the fable to you.
(Try making different voices when reading).
Identify the moral of the story.
Read the fable on your own and identify difficult words. Search for the meaning of
the difficult words in the dictionary and do a little spelling test.

Write a few sentences about the fable.
Activity 2
Write a summary about the story ‘the owl and the grasshopper’ using the headings in
the template as your guideline.

Read the following definitions and pay special attention to the present tense.
Observe how the verb changes from past to present to the future.
