First Sunday of Advent

Dear Parishioners, Families and Friends,

The Advent begins today to remind us the Good News of Christmas, which is this: “God is with us”. It is a mystery of the Incarnation that is announced by the angel of the Lord: “She will bear a Son and you are to name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins” (Matthew 1: 21). Amazingly, through Jesus comes “grace and truth” (John 1: 17). We are so blessed that we encounter God’s presence in the person Jesus Christ in the Sacraments, and we continue to celebrate them joyfully and faithfully.

We anticipate opening the Christmas Gift by opening ourselves through the Sacrament of forgiveness. It is the Sacrament of healing that brings us to the Altar of the Eucharist, where we celebrate deeply and fully his abiding presence. Our Advent Reconciliation is scheduled within the context of the Adoration, which provides us a quiet, sacred time before the Blessed Sacrament.

Adoration and Reconciliation: Friday, December 14, 2018: 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM in Chapel Saturday, December 15, 2018: 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM in Chapel

During this time, Father Rey and I will be present for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. You and your family may come in any time at your convenience for either Adoration or Confes-sions or both and leave at any time.

Today’s Gospel reminds us that all is not well in our world. Whether the end of the world is as something God will bring about or we humans seem more and more capable of ending it ourselves, at least this is the world we know of and take good care of. Above all, we are re-minded that our redemption is always at hand, so at all time we are reminded to be ready to stand before the Lord (Luke 21: 25-28, 34-36).

Happy Advent! Fr. Thuc

We lovingly pray for those in our Parish and families who can-not join us at Mass especially: Arlene Barraza, Joel Rivera, Barbara Mertzlufft, Antonia Luna, Janet Decker, Barbara Carrillo.. Please let us also pray for all our servicemen and women who serve in the Armed Forces throughout the world and remember them in our hearts today and everyday. We re-member those dearly departed in our Queen of Apostles family and in our own families: especially Anne Holder.

Peacemakers

St. Francis Xavier Francis Xavier was one of the six original companions of Ignatius Loyola who founded the Jesuits in the 16th cen-tury. He embarked on a perilous journey to Goa in India and later to Japan. On arriving in Japan, he realized that his sense of mission had to change based on the highly developed culture of Japan. He adjusted his mission and found a way to help them connect with the message of Jesus. His awareness of the culture of others made it pos-sible for him to peacefully educate the Japanese about the wonders of Christ.

Quote: “I will go anywhere and do anything in order to communicate the love of Jesus to those who do not know Him or have forgotten Him.”

What would we do to spread the message of Christ?

The Diamond Jubilee Needs Your Help

Were you around in the early years of our Parish? Do you know any of the early Parish families or how we may reach them? Can you help us make contact? Do you have memorabilia, pictures, or video recordings of pas-tors, priests, parishioners or events we may reference, copy and/or share? (We’ll take good care of everyone’s treasures, we promise). Do you know someone who might? Have you researched our history before? Are you interested in helping us compile the information we gather? If you answered yes to any of these questions, we need to speak with you. Please e-mail us at [email protected] and a committee member will contact you to discuss what you have, who you know and how you can help.
