It’s that time of year again. The holidays
are upon us. The lobby is decorated with
our giant Christmas tree and there will be
plenty of decorated trees around to remind us of the season.
Friday, December 6 will feature our community’s annual
holiday craft fair in our lobby. The hours of the fair will be
from 10:00 to 2:00. Plus, word has it that Santa and Mrs. Claus
will be in our lobby to visit with our grandchildren and great-
grandchildren. Stay tuned for more news on this.
History of Broadway Musicals- WU has been a very interesting
course to say the least. We have been learning the history from
when musicals first began to more modern musicals with our
documentary and discussion pieces. We have also gotten a look at a
few of the great musicals that were made into movies as well. We
are continuing this with a showing of A Christmas Carol to bring
some Christmas Spirits of Past, Present, and Future into our course
just in time for our Christmas Holiday Season!

The Gardens
Gift giving has always been a
tradition during the time of
Christmas and Hanukkah, but
gifts don’t always have to be
things and don’t always have to be only given the holidays. There’s
a sign hanging in the Fitness Room that says “The Best Things in
Life aren’t Things”. In spite of the hype of the latest and greatest
gadgets, an expression of kindness can be one of the best gifts.
Members of our community who are part of the Gardens and the
Springs would appreciate a visit, not only during the holidays, but
all year long. And for anyone who shows you an act of kindness,
our own Rev. Ed Thornberg reminds us to “Say Thank You”.

The evidence for some form of exercise
just keeps piling up. First comes news of
a study that followed nearly 270,000
people and found that exercise is and
important and overlooked strategy for
both preventing and treating depression.
Finding an enjoyable activity, having
support of friends and family and being
supervised by a fitness professional, all
increased the likelihood of sustaining an
exercise program. Second, exercise is
often prescribed for those suffering from
Parkinson’s Disease, particularly
participating in the Big and Loud
program. Still thinking about starting a
program? See Ken Dettloff, our personal
trainer, to get you started.
Path to Well-Being
Kindness and Laughter is the always the best medicine. We strongly
believe that here, especially in The Gardens. With everything we do, we
find a time to laugh together and be kind and caring to one another,
whether its with our socials, playing games, or making jokes to one
another. We are definitely not afraid to get a little silly when we are all
together in our close-knit community. We make sure with everything we do,
we are kind and caring to one another. In the coming months we will be
starting a Laugh a Latte Club to keep warm in the colder months ahead.
