Tomb - a building in which a dead person is buried.
The Ancient Egyptians were very
RELIGIOUS.
They believed in the power of the
SUN and The Nile River.
Ancient Egyptians believed that
there were many gods, and built
temples for their gods.
The most powerful Egyptian god was AMUN RA.
They believed that a person’s spirit lived on in
their body after death, so it was important not
to let the body decay.
Wealthy Egyptians had their dead bodies made
into MUMMIES.
Making a mummy could take 60 to 70
days. Having your body mummified
cost a lot of money.
They believed that a spirit would need the
things that he or she used in this life, in the
afterlife.
They put food, clothes, furniture, and jewelry
in a tomb with the mummy.
Kings and Queens in Ancient Egypt were called
Pharaohs. The pharaoh was the most powerful and
important person in the KINGDOM.
The pharaoh was the head of the government and
the high priest of every temple. The pharaoh ruled
all of Egypt.
Most pharaohs were men, but some well-known
pharaohs, such as Nefertiti and Cleopatra, were
women.
