SERIES OVERVIEW Happy birthday, Jesus! We celebrate Jesus’

birthday because Jesus is God’s Son. God’s Son deserves a celebration as big as Christmas itself

and a birthday bash as big as the one we’re going to give Him this month! He is that special!

So gather up all the birthday excitement and Christmas spirit you have, because we are going to

party all month long! It’s not just balloons and party hats, though. We are sharing the true story that God gave us His only Son, Jesus, and He is

worth our best celebration!

Storyteller should come on stage using a few of the noisemakers and wearing a “Happy Birthday” hat.

STORYTELLER: “Hello friends! You’re probably wondering why I’m making so much noise and why I’ve got this birthday hat on. It’s because this month we’re having a Birthday Bash and celebrating Jesus’ special birthday! On the count of three, I want every one to yell ‘HAPPY BIRTHDAY JESUS’ as loud as you can! One, two, three!

As the kids yell Happy Birthday, make noise on your noisemakers.

STORYTELLER: “This month, we’re celebrating Jesus’ birthday and we’re going to learn why His birthday is so special! When I say, ‘Why is Jesus special?’ you say, ‘Jesus is God’s Son!’ Let’s practice! ‘Why is Jesus special?’”

CHILDREN AND STORYTELLER: “Jesus is God’s Son!”

STORYTELLER: “Yes, He is, and we’re celebrating His birthday this month. We celebrate Jesus’ birthday on Christmas. Hey! I have a song about that! Are you ready? Everyone stand up and help me sing and dance as we sing a song called, ‘Christmas Party.’”

SONG: “Christmas Party”

Lead children in singing, “Christmas Party,” with the hand motions.

SONG: “Away In A Manger”

Lead children in singing, “Away In A Manger” with the hand motions.

STORYTELLER: “Thanks for worshipping with me, friends. Before you have a seat, tell me, ‘Why is Jesus special?’”


STORYTELLER: “That’s right! God sent His Son, Jesus, and this month’s Bible verse tells us why! Listen to the Bible verse as I say it, then, we you’ll repeat it after me with the hand motions. Listen carefully:

‘God (point up) loved the world (hug yourself) so much (stretch arms wide) that He gave (place hands together with palms up) His only Son.’ (pretend to cradle a baby) John 3:16” (open hands like a book)

Repeat the memory verse two more times and have kids repeat it after you.

STORYTELLER: “Great job, friends! Let’s say it one more time, ‘Why is Jesus special?’”


STORYTELLER: “Yes! That’s the truth, friends! Today we’re going to hear a Bible story about Jesus’ mom, Mary, who was visited by someone very important. Let’s check in with Ollie at the Wonder! Clubhouse to learn more.”

STORYTELLER: “When Mary heard from the angel, I’m sure she was scared at first. But when she heard that baby Jesus would be a part of God’s special plan, she got so excited!”

STORYTELLER: “Remind me again, ‘Why is Jesus special?’”


STORYTELLER: “Yes! Jesus is special because Jesus is God’s Son! And that is why we celebrate Christmas. Let’s pray and thank God for Jesus.”

STORYTELLER: “Dear God, thank You for sending Jesus to be our friend forever. Thank You for loving us THAT much. I pray each person here will follow Jesus and want to celebrate Him for being SO special. We love You, God. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

STORYTELLER: “Now friends, it’s time for us to head back to our eGroups where you’re going to learn more about what makes Jesus so special.”

STORYTELLER: “Where is the _________ (color of Quest Animal eGroup, ie: Purple Parrot) eGroup? You can go ahead and line up with your eGroup Leader at the door and go back to eGroup.”
