Dear Friends, Waiting is certainly a theme in life, but what comfort is there in waiting? Comfort is usually not found standing at any of the DMV offices or waiting for 1 to1 and1/2 hours to untangle traffic or waiting for a doctor’s appointment. You simply hope, as frustration builds, that you can get out as soon as possible and get on with life. This sort of ordinary hope has to do with desires and wishes that come and go and quickly pass. These everyday hopes can be more significant than this daily drudgery, too, regarding long-term hopes for the LSU Tigers or the Saints, for work and for family. These are things in which we invest our lives and dream about accomplishments; but these hopes often have to do with “hoping for” something. There is another kind of waiting that brings deeper comfort because it is based upon a fundamental hope, a “hoping in” something. Fundamental hope does not have to do with “having’ or “acquiring” but is focused on the welfare of people and our hope of salvation. This is Advent’s sense of hope. One of our great philosophers once said: “Out of the loss of common, everyday hope true hope arises.” This is the hope of the martyrs, which persists when all human hopes have deserted us. Consider what you hope for this Advent season. This Advent hope can bring joy in the waiting. As I use the word “waiting” and “hope” I am aware we are still waiting on news of a groundbreaking for the projects. This news should be coming very soon. I recently met with the Architects and the Contractors on pricing for the projects and should have figures very soon. Then we will do the groundbreaking. This project has been a long haul, with much input from many hands and voices. Once groundbreaking is done, the projects are expected to be completed before the beginning of School 2015, barring any unforeseen circumstances. Please note the large board in church with all the services for Advent-Christmas at St Jean Vianney. Plan on being with the Church for Christmas and New Year’s. Monday Nights of Advent will continue to offer the Sacrament of Reconciliation 6:00-7:00pm in Church. Invite someone you know who has not been to Church in a while to come with you or come on their own. Some thank yous are in order: To the Men’s Club and KC’s for their work day on campus on Saturday,

St. Jean Vianney Social Responsibility News

Thank you to all who generously donated their time, finances, and food items to the food pantry for our Thanksgiving Outreach. We provided 17 families (78 people) with Thanksgiving baskets consisting of a turkey, pie crust and filling, traditional Thanksgiving sides, fresh rolls, fresh fruit,

vegetable juice, and enough non-perishable food items to last at least a week. I wish everyone could have seen the faces of the families when they picked up the baskets – there were many exclamations of joy, smiles, tears, and hugs! Here is a picture of some of the baskets and some of the volunteers who helped prepare them.

POSTER CONTEST SJV KC council 9247 would like to invite our SJV Church youth to take part in the Knights of Columbus “Keep Christ in Christmas” poster contest for all boys and girls from ages 5

We hope in this process you will come to a deeper understanding of the true meaning of Christmas, and your artwork will bring others to remember Christ in Christmas. The contest will be conducted locally with winning entries advancing through district/regional and state competitions to the international level. The winning entries will serve as the basis for a series of international “Keep Christ in Christmas” posters, with creative credit going to the artists. All posters must be 11x17 inches in size. Deadline for submission is December 15th at the Parish office. For more information and rules email Joy D’Curz @ [email protected].
