AG INTEREST SERIES: MARKETS

Spectrum CommoditiesLouise Gartner800-888-9843

Wheat markets were quietly mixed as Chicago regained some of its losses against the Kansas City and Minneapolis markets. Exports continue to disappoint and sentiment about wheat price prospects is tepid at best with record world stocks and large speculative traders increasing their already large short position. Corn and beans also were pulled lower, mostly on worries that Argentina will ramp up exports once the new administration removes the corn and wheat export tax and lowers the soybean export tax on Dec 10. We continue to see the bean oil and soy meal spread widen with oil finding strong support from the increase in the bio-diesel mandate and on palm oil production problems in southeast Asia. Demand for meal has weakened with plentiful other feed grain supplies. The cattle complex was sharply lower in yet another wave of heavy selling. Cash markets turned south again on pressure from lower boxed beef values

and declining volume of beef movement. The lower prices are particularly disappointing considering much hope had rested on better holiday demand, but that is not materializing and time is running out for this holiday season. Crude oil resumed its downward march with new lows posted this week. Heavy selling stemmed from another weak Chinese import data report, the thirteenth month in a row of lower Chinese imports – more evidence that suggest their economic slowdown is still intact. The US dollar took a big hit as the euro surged when the European Central Bank increased the negative interest rate for deposits but slowed the rate of asset purchases by the government, giving the euro a much needed boost after months of declining value. The weaker dollar propped up metals – barely, giving them a brief reprieve from the recent selling. The Dow was also lower on choppy trading over the last week.

2015 marks the very first year of what we hope will be an annual event, the Youth Biggest Buck Contest. Our goal was to encourage Montana youth to experience the rewards of hunting...We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the deer these young Montana hunters harvested. We are very proud of each and every one of them! They exhibited great sportsmanship and pride in their hunt, and we enjoyed reading their stories and seeing their photographs. Thanks go to each of them for participating! For the purposes of this contest, deer were judged based on a weighted points system dependent upon the Boone & Crocket scoring system for whitetail and mule deer bucks, and a combination of additional factors which included sportsmanship, challenge of the hunt, clarity of the story and hunt details, and marksmanship. The competition was fierce! THANK YOU to our independent panel for serving as the judges for this contest.

Peace and Quiet Aunt Karen is the mother of two high-spirited young girls. When I called her one morning, our conversation wasconstantly interrupted by the din of kids screaming andchasing each other. “Could you hold on for a moment?” myaunt finally asked, putting down the phone. Within ten seconds all I could hear was absolute silence. Then, “Okay, I’m back.” “But it’s so quiet!” I exclaimed. “You must have complete control over those two.” “Not really,” my aunt confessed wearily. “I’m in thecloset.”

DAVE SAYS: Who Is Dave Ramsey? Dave Ramsey is a personal money management expert, popular national radio personality and the author of three New York Times bestsellers – The Total Money Makeover, Financial Peace Revisited and More Than Enough. In them, Ramsey exemplifies his life’s work of teaching others how to be financially responsible, so they can acquire enough wealth to take care of loved ones, live prosperously into old age, and give generously to others.

* Dave Ramsey is America’s trusted voice on money and business. He has authored five New York Times best-selling books: Financial Peace, More Than Enough, The Total Money Makeover, EntreLeadership and Smart Money Smart Kids. His newest best-seller, Smart Money Smart Kids, was written with his daughter Rachel Cruze, and recently debuted at #1. The Dave Ramsey Show is heard by more than 8 million listeners each week on more than 500 radio stations. Follow Dave on Twitter at @DaveRamsey and on the web at daveramsey.com.

DEAR DAVE, The guy who has been my best friend since grade school recently asked me to loan him $5,000. All I have in savings in $5,000, but I would be willing to give him $1,000. The problem is that while he’s a great friend with a good heart, he’s always getting himself into binds when it comes to money. Do you think I should give him $1,000? ~IsrealDear Isreal, If I were in your shoes, and I was going to give this guy a fifth of everything I had, I’d want to know it was going to save his life. From what you’ve said, it sounds like he’s just out of control with his money while you’re trying to save. That being the case, I’m not sure you’d really be helping him. If you want to gift your friend some money, then do it. But there’s no way I’d tell you to give him everything you’ve managed to save. And I certainly wouldn’t do it as a loan. Ask yourself if you believe deep down in your heart that giving this guy $1,000 would truly be a blessing to him or if, by doing it, you’d be acting as an enabler and basically just funding more of his stupidity with money. From what you’ve told me, I think there’s a good chance the answer is the latter. And if that’s the case, you can be a much better friend by saying you love him enough to not ruin your friendship. ~Dave

Alysha is our foreign exchange student from Roundup, Montana. As it is only about 40 miles from our house to her homeland in Musselshell County, language and cultural conflicts have been minimal. Just before Thanksgiving, she finished her oil painting of the Red Sea for her art class at Laurel High School, but anticipating some last minute tweaking, she stored her picture, paints and canvass in her bedroom. So far so good. Thanksgiving Day, Tim, Meagan and their eight mini-Kimmels drove down from Great Falls. The chaos of eight grandchildren exploding from a cramped Excursion and swarming a home typically inhabited by two old people and one 18-year-old foreigner is something everyone should experience. Cash, our Border collie, spent the holiday hiding under our bed. Because everyone was dressed in their holiday finest, Meagan corralled Tim and their eight wee ones for their annual family picture. While combing the burrs out of the hair of the middle two, Meagan counted heads and discovered she was missing Cora, the three-year-old and John, the two-year-old. A quick search found Cora in Alysha’s room creatively adding turpentine highlights to

Alysha’s Red Sea painting. John was mostly an innocent bystander, not because of his keen sense of right and wrong, but because there was only one paint brush and he was patiently waiting his turn. Sharing is a survival habit developed from having six older siblings. A thick, “oh crap” silence filled the living room as Meagan revealed the damaged picture to Alysha. On closer examination of the altered painting I spotted John’s two bare footprints in the middle of the Red Sea. “Submit the painting as it is and say it portrays the crossing of the Red Sea by Syrian refugees,” I offered trying to lighten the mood. No luck, as even Cora knows the Syrians are avoiding all their southern Arab neighbors, choosing instead to invade Europe and this brings me to my point. The recent slaughter of innocent people in Paris and San Bernardino, California, means all Americans should be armed at all times. However, even before the blood had clotted in the wounds of the final victim, Democrats capitalized on the crisis by publically screaming government must disarm the unwashed. In utopia, only the ruling class and their security forces will carry guns.

Because there are insufficient votes in Congress to actually repeal the “Second Amendment,” President Obama will decree common sense gun control by executive action. Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders and Martin O’Malley are all on board. This move to render the little people powerless will be mislabeled as common sense gun control and veterans, NRA members, pro-lifers, and Christians will magically find themselves on the government “no-fly list.” Demonstrating a blind allegiance to party, expect every elected Democrat at every level of government to rally behind their president on gun control just as they did by supporting his Syrian refugee invasion. Progressive Republicans will publically whiz and whine, but will ultimately compromise with the Democrats. In this upcoming election cycle remember this: (1) Democrats are the party of firearm confiscation. (2) Establishment Republicans are the party of compromise. (3) America’s only hope of survival lies with a handful of Republican patriots who will honor their oath of office to “support, protect and defend the Constitution.” If the distinction between the three isn’t clear enough, I’ll have Cora paint you a picture.
