    LAS VEGAS - Columbia's Clara

    Guerrero successfully defended her

title, while Wu Siu Hong gave HongKong its first title as the 51st

    QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup

    came to a close.

    Guerrero took down two-time World

    Cup champion Shannon Pluhowsky of

the United States, 2-0, while Hong

    defeated South Africa's Francois

Louw, 2-0, in best-of-three matches at

    Sam's Town Bowling Center.

The World Cup is considered one of

    the sport's most prestigious singles

titles and featured bowlers from 88

countries, making it the largest event

in the sport in terms of number of

    countries competing.

Guerrero, who won the title last year in Wroclaw,

Poland, defeated Pluhowsky in back-to-back games,202-177 and 243-238, to take the title.

"Winning one World Cup title was amazing, but win-

ning twice is a dream come true," Guerrero said. "I'm

extremely happy and thankful to God and all the people

who have supported me to make this happen."

Pluhowsky, who defeated Russia's Maria Bulanova, 2-

1, in the semifinal, just couldn't get comfortable on both

    lanes in the championship match.

"Clara bowled great all week and it's a major accom-

plishment to win this event in back-to-back years," said

Pluhowsky, who won the World Cup in 2002 and 2004.

"The right lane was a little tricky for me, and I just want-

ed to throw it well on that lane. When I did throw it well, the pins just didn't fall."

Hong took advantage of a crossover strike to win the

first game against top seed Louw, 233-219, and then

rolled to the win in the second game, 223-180.

"For me, this is very special," said Hong, who defeat-

ed Singapore's Jaris Goh, 2-0, in the semifinal. "This is

a great win for Hong Kong, and it gives me confidence.

My highest finish in the World Cup was ninth, so this is

    very special."

Team USA's Kamron Doyle finished the event in 12th

place after being knocked out in the Round of 24.

winner of four major titles over the past two years, as a 7/2 favorite in the

opening line followed by Bill O’Neill at 9/2, Wes Malott at 5/1 and Sean

Betts, who will be bowling PBA competition for the first time, as a 200/1

World Series to play role in determining Player of the

Year  – With two major titles won earlier in 2015 (USBC

Masters and Barbasol PBA Tournament of Champions),

Jason Belmonte is the leading contender to win his third

consecutive Player of the Year crown. The last player to win

three consecutive Player of the Year crowns was PBA Hall

PBA Challenge Finals highlight other aspects of PBA:

The PBA created the “PBA Challenge Finals” two years ago

to provide a national showcase for other aspects of PBA

competition – PBA Regionals, PBA Women’s Regionals,

the PBA50 Tour and youth bowlers via the Teen Masters.

The PBA Regional and renamed PWBA-PBA Women’s

Regional program invites the top player in competition

points from each of the PBA’s eight regions to bowl a qual-

ifying event for two berths in the ESPN-televised finals.

The PBA50 Tour’s top eight players also bowl a qualifying

event with the top two meeting in the ESPN finals event,

and the Teen Masters boys’ and girls’ high school champi-

ons round out the PBA Challenge Finals field for the title as

    Teen Masters Grand Champion.

Reno’s role in professional bowling history – Reno has

hosted topflight bowling competition since 1977 when the

Reno-Sparks Convention Center was the host of the

    American Bowling Congress (USBC) Championships

Tournament. Since then, Reno has hosted many PBA and

USBC events which have been some of the biggest bowling

    events in history.

PBA Tour events include “animal pattern” lane conditions

     – Four of the World Series events – the Cheetah, Viper,

Chameleon and Scorpion Championship – are names

applied to specific PBA lane conditioning patterns. Each

different lane condition requires players to be on top of their games in making the right lane and equipment adjustments

to be successful. The ability to excel on all four lane condi-

tioning challenges will ultimately determine the PBA World

    Championship winner.

Each lane condition for World Series ESPN telecasts will

feature the “blue oil” lane conditioner to give fans a unique

visual reference of what players must navigate when com-

     peting in the finals.

2014 champions return to defend titles  – Three World

Series of Bowling VI champions who will be returning to

defend their titles are Anthony Pepe (Cheetah

    Championship), DJ Archer (Chameleon Championship)

and Michael Haugen Jr. (Scorpion Championship). Mika

Koivuniemi (Viper Championship) and Mike Fagan (PBA

World Championship) are semi-active this season and are

not entered. Koivuniemi, who has experienced chronic back issues, currently is coaching the United Arab Emirates

national team and Fagan has returned to school in pursuit of

    a master’s degree.
