Praying 4 You

Church LadyHow can you keep the people of God motivated to honor, love and support and appreciate their Pastor & First Lady? Is it just me that thinks you should honor, love and support them not only verbally but to show it in gifts and surprises? Hair, nails, cars and shoes are bought but they can’t seem to think about how to properly appreciate their leaders. I don’t know, Just Me!

Dear Just Me,I agree that the Pastor and first Lady should be honored and Respected, the bible tells us to do so, I don’t know what’s wrong with this NEW generation of Church goers they don’t hardly speak to the Pastor and will walk right by the First Lady and not acknowledge her presence, I applaud you for honoring your Pastor but let us all remmeber we must Honor our Pastors but not Worship them.

Loving You, Church lady

Ask the Church Lady

Why do the church make allegiances with the world in all their business dealings? And why do christians drive nice cars and expect God to pay for them and won’t even put Jesus no where on the vehicle? Duchess

Dear Duchess,Well first let me tackle the easiest one NOTHING should come before GOD so if a churc is making allegiances with anyone other then GOD they are not in accor-dance with the word of GOD I also feel many churches are losing sight of ministry and paying more attention to the bottom line hopefully that will change, now who told you Christians drive nice cars Church Lady loves the lord but I still drive a hoopty!!!!! praying for my Lexus Convert-able one day (in GOD’s time) but honey if I get that car it doesn’t mean I am going to plaster I love Jesus stickers all over it because that doesn’t make you a Christian your actions your Faith your submissive-ness to HIS will is what defines you not a bumper sticker, but I will send you a I love the Church Lady bumper sticker if you will put it on your car ....Love ya honey now HONK for Jesussssss!!!!!! Holiday Preparation Tips

“Give Love on Christmas Day” is a fascinating proposal for couples who have not said “I Do,” offered by the Family Life Institute (FLI) in partnershipwith Ambas-sador Ministries. On the morning of December 25, 2009, FLI and Ambassador Ministries will unite in Holy Matrimony, men and women who have been living together.

Those wanting to wed will be required to commit to several weeks of pre-marital counseling starting Novem-ber 14, 2009. “This is an opportunity for cohabitating couples who already share their lives with each other, to make the next step their right step on the solid foundation of marriage,” said Apostolic Overseer Eric L. Warren of Ambassador Ministries. Warren has been married to his wife Carolyn for 38 years. They have reared three successful daughters and are now blessed with two grandchildren.

The Warrens have counseled and mentored many dating, engaged and

married couples for over 20 years. Also, they have given numerous marriage semi-nars. “We provide a clear understanding of what the marriage covenant means and practical ways to live it every day,” said the Warrens. With the divorce rate above 50 percent and more couples opting to live together without a marriage commitment,

the Warrens say they realized they had to do more to help both married and unmar-ried couples.

“When done the right way with love and a clear understanding of and commitment to the marriage covenant as sanctioned by God, marriage is the stron-gest and most productive relationship on earth,” said Warren.

In addition to getting a fresh start in life, couples who accept FLI and Ambas-sador Ministries’ proposal to be mar-ried on Christmas day, there are a few additional benefits. “We’re providing the church, the marriage ceremony, the cake, punch and photography to capture this sacred event,” said Carolyn Warren.

For unwedded couples living together, who desire to be married on Christmas Day at Ambassador Minis-tries in Columbus, Ohio, contact Pastor Michael Spears at

I was studying on prayer this month. I have a desire to have a deeper prayer life and as I began to study, three “I” words were found in the definition of prayer: to interpose, intervene and to inter-cede. I was especially captured by interpos-ing in prayer. I had never heard that term

before, however upon studying the mean-ing I had witnessed the action of interpo-sition in corporate prayer at my church. The word “interpose” is made up of two words: “inter” and pose. Inter means to get in between. A pose speaks of a position. Sometimes as believers, we question, forget and/or even neglect to embrace our pose or our position as members of God’s king-dom. David dealt with this same dilemma, in the 8th psalm, when he, considered all that God had made he ended up at one question: how in the world did man got his position:

What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour. Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all [things] under his feet: Psalm 8:3-6

Your position in the kingdom is a little lower than the angels. In addition, you have been given the authority to wear a

crown of glory and honour, the authority to dominate the work of God’s hands and to top it off God put everything under your feet. I learned five effects of interposing in prayer: My “pose” in prayer gets God’s attentionTo pose means “to assume a particular attitude or stance, esp. with the hope of impressing others.”My position in prayer interrupts troubleThe word pose comes from the word “pausāre” derived from the word pause which means to stop, cease or to rest.

My prayer makes “trouble” wonderTo pose also means to puzzle, confuse, perplex. Am I saying that we begin to confuse God by our prayer? Heavens no, but when we do begin to get into position in prayer we begin to confuse the situation and cause it to wonder why it ever came to mess with us.My prayer questions and interrogates Another form of the word pose means to question, interrogate. If you have ever watched a show where there are detec-

tives that have suspects to a crime or some criminal activity. They bring them in for questioning and they interrogate or “to ask questions of (a person), sometimes to seek answers or information that the person questioned considers personal or secret.”

My prayer sheds light into dark placesIn this interrogation, they turn the main

lights off and shine a spotlight on the sus-pect. Through sometimes hours of grueling questions and the examination of answers and the evidence, the suspect cracks and confesses that he/or she is guilty and wor-thy of punishment by the law.

Sometimes in our situations, we settle for the surface, but true prayer digs deeper until the culprit is found, apprehended and convicted, allowing light of God can shine in the situation and bring a resolution.

So, to interpose means to get between and pose expecting your pose or your poise to influence God and bring rest into your life or into a situation that you are praying for.

In prayer strike your pose, stay in position and watch God move.

The Hebrew Children are a sibling group committed to spreading the gospel through song and prophetic intercessory. Ministering together for nearly twenty-five years, when not on tour, The Hebrew Children are the praise team and band for Diamond Avenue Christian Center. The group began as The Hebrew Boyz with sons — Charles Jr., James, Jamil and Dar-

rion — who ranged in age from three to seven years old. Two years later, their eldest sister, Naticia joined the group and eventually the youngest sister, Volanda, and cousin, Jermaine Graves. Thus the moniker changed to The Hebrew Chil-dren. The final member, Philip Porche, connected with the group when he mar-ried Naticia. Keeping it a family affair, the

group is managed by their parents, Bishop C. E. Oliver, Sr. and his wife, Debra.

They have shared the stage with Dr. Bobby Jones and New Life, The Clark Sisters, the late Willie Neal Johnson and the New Gospel Keynotes, The Pilgrim Jubilees, Dr. Charles Fold and the Charles Fold Singers, TheWilliams Brothers, Mary Mary, Smokey Norful and numerous other artists. They also performed on the nation-ally syndicated Doug Banks radio show. Their impressive list of accolades includes McDonald’s Gospelfest Award Winners, Dr. Bobby Jones’ National Youth Group, Martin Luther King Award Winners, Starbound Award Winners and the Ohio Excellence Award.

Spanning a wide range of vocal styl-ing, their music is best described as urban gospel. From the newly released project, Our Story, Offering is Christian rock with the message of being a living sacrifice. I’ll Keep Holding On is a mid-tempo urban-flavor song of hope and encouragement. And for lovers of quartet music, Victory Praise is an energetic, hand-clapping, foot-stomping song. With a cappella harmonies, rhythmic tunes and Holy-Ghost anointed dance moves, The Hebrew Children pro-claim the good news in word and deed.

Franklin County Children Services’ Holiday Wish is searching for com-munity donors to sponsor nearly 4,500 abused, neglected and troubled chil-dren. These children may live with their parents, relatives and foster parents. There is no guarantee these children will receive a gift for their special holiday without the sponsorship of individuals, businesses and community groups who donate new toys for children age 11 and younger, and monetary donations for older children.

Over the years, many caring donors have given generously, making it pos-sible for thousands of children served by FCCS to have a joyous holiday. Long-standing donor, Walmart Logis-tics Center, takes the holiday wishes of 200 children each year, ensuring they have gifts to open. JC Penney Logistics and Receiving Departments rally their employees and donate money to spon-sor teens. In addition, boy and girl scout troops, churches, school groups, civic organizations, and individuals help put smiles on the faces of children in need.

Children Services is located at 855 West Mound Street in Columbus and

all donations are tax deductible. Donors can help make children’s wishes come true by making a donation online here or by calling 614-275-2525. This year, Holiday Wish progress can be followed on the agency Facebook page. For more information about Holiday Wish, click here.

Congratulations to Vickie Winans! She has earned a Grammy nomination for her latest CD “How I Got Over,” in the category of Best Traditional Gospel Album. The album soared to #1 for three weeks on the Bill-board Gospel Album Sales chart and is a testimony to the many struggles Winans has overcome since her last CD was released in 2006. Since then, Winans’ beloved mother Mattie Bowman passed away and Winans departed from Verity Records to launch her own Destiny Joy recording label. After surviving those trying times, Winans has rebounded triumphantly. “God has been good to me,” says the now eight-time Grammy nominated singer. “I give Him all the praise. He’s stayed with me and held me up when I couldn’t hold up myself. There are so many great things happening that I just have to say that it’s because of God that I made it over.”

food&diningHoliday Cookies 101: Easy Baking With a Cookie Press

(Family Features) Home-baked good-ness is the most economical and heart-felt choice for gifts and entertaining, but rolling out dough and cutting decora-tive cookies can be time consuming and messy. With a cookie press, bakers can achieve gift-worthy results quickly and easily, leaving more time for the rest of the holiday to-do list.

The Pampered Chef recently intro-duced a new cookie press with a rotat-

ing, easy-to-use press that controls the amount of dispensed dough with a twist motion. With nine disks in assorted shapes, the press can be used to make cookies for occasions throughout the year. In addition, the press includes a potato ricing disk, exclusive to The Pampered Chef. After the cookies are baked, this disk can be used to create creamy mashed potatoes for the holiday meal.

Tips for Santa-worthy cookies:

For best results, it’s important to mix ingredients in the correct order listed

in recipe directions. Changing order of ingredients can result in dough that will not work well with the press.

Do not chill dough prior to using a cookie press.

Add nonpareils, colored sugars or sprinkles to pressed cookies prior to bak-ing.

If cookie dough has an uneven sur-face where it has separated from the disk, simply pat top surface of dough lightly

before baking. Pressed cookies will not release onto

a warm cookie sheet. So while cookies are baking, press cookies onto parchment paper that has been cut to fit sheet. Simply slide parchment onto cookie sheets and bake.

Classic Spritz CookiesYield: 6-7 dozen cookies

1 1/2 cups (375 mL) butter (3 sticks), soft-enedcup (250 mL) sugareggteaspoon (5 mL) vanilla extract3 1/2 cups (875 mL) all-purpose flour Colored sugar or sprinkles (optional)

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). In large mixing bowl, beat butter and sugar on medium speed of electric mixer about 3 minutes or until creamy, scraping down sides as necessary. Add egg and vanilla; beat well. Add flour; mix on low speed

just until blended, scraping down sides as necessary. (Dough will be soft; do not refrigerate.)

Fit cookie press with desired disk; fill with dough. Press dough onto cookie sheet 1 inch apart. Decorate cookies with colored sugar or sprinkles, if desired.

Bake 10-12 minutes or until edges are light golden brown. Cool cookies 2 min-utes on cookie sheet; remove to cooling rack. Repeat with remaining dough.

Chocolate Spritz Cookies: Increase sugar to 1 1/4 cups (300 mL). Decrease flour to 3 cups (750 mL). Combine flour and 1/3 cup (75 mL) unsweetened cocoa powder in medium mixing bowl; blend well. Proceed as recipe directs.

( N A P S I ) -Nothing says “Happy Holi-days” like giving the gift of beauty to the loved ones on your list this holiday season. T3, the hairstyling brand of choice for professionals, is making the gift-purchasing pro-

cess a snap by taking the guesswork out of shopping for the perfect present.

T3 offers three special gift sets designed to please any woman who cares passionately about her hair. Each set includes a variety of essential tools to help prepare the ideal professional look for

work or create a special hairdo for a night out on the town.

As a personal touch to your gift, you can provide the following tips for creating a special festive look.

Tousled Updo’s are about creating an effortless look that is elegantly chic. It’s easy to achieve this style, as the goal is to appear a bit disheveled with slightly imperfect hair along with a touch of “fun and festive.” The Tousled Updo looks great on women with all types of hair.Holiday Hair How-To for creating a Tousled Updo:

1. Begin by blowing out washed hair using the company’s Featherweight dryer with the nozzle pointing downward. Cre-ate waves using the T3 round brush by wrapping hair around the brush, apply-

ing heat, then setting the curl using the cool shot button.

2. Once hair is voluminous and wavy, spray Orlando Pita Control for added tex-ture and flexible hold.

3. Create a ponytail at the nape of the neck; only pull the hair halfway through to create a bun and loop the ends through the elastic.

4. Wrap the remainder of the hair around the elastic and secure using a bobby pin.

5. Using additional hairpins, grab small random sections of the bun and pin to head until you achieve desired look. Lock in the style by spraying Control Hair Spray.

Merry Christmas from the GovernmentThe first-time

homebuyer tax credit has been extended and expanded. The home purchaser must have a signed contract by April 30, 2010 and close by June 30, 2010 to be eligible. There are a few new adapta-tions from the program that expires November 30, 2009. Most notably, if you have owned your own home at least the last five years, you can obtain a $6,500 credit towards your taxes (if you owe less than $6,500, you receive the balance back from the IRS). First-time

home buyers will still qualify for a tax credit up to $8,000. The new income lim-its are $125,000 for singles and $250,000 for married couples. You can purchase a home for a purchase

price up to $800,000 and this must be your primary home.

This new version of

the tax credit is good, both for the buyers who want to downsize and the buy-ers who want to get a larger home. If you already own a home there is no require-

ment that this home be sold to claim the tax credit, but note that you have to qualify for both payments if you are obtaining a mortgage for the new home. You can rent your current home to anyone you choose. You cannot buy a home for your mother, father or grandparents and qualify for the tax credit. Although April 30, 2010, seems like a long time away, if you are thinking about purchasing a home before deadline, it would be wise to start now getting your credit and bud-get in order to meet the dead-line. You need to make a appointment with the lender

of your choice to evaluate your credit. It is much harder to get a mortgage loan today than it has been in the past, but the organized, proactive borrower will be rewarded with a government credit of up to $8,000 for first-time buyers, and $6,500 for those who already own a home and are purchasing a new one.

The secret is out about C.M. Grant Leadership AcademyBoth schools are managed by The Leona Group which was formed in 1996 by Dr. William Coats, a national leader in educa-tion reform. Foundational to The Leona Group is the belief that all children, regardless of ethnicity or economic status, can learn and achieve. For this reason, Leona Group schools are located almost exclusively in urban centers where there is the greatest need for educational choice and opportunity. Though Leona now manages almost 70 schools in five states, each school program is distinctive, designed to meet the specific needs of its community it serves.

For more information, contact Michelle Johnson, school leader, at 614.252.2087 or visit www.cmgrant.com. C.M. Grant Leadership Academy is sponsored by St. Aloysius.

Word is getting out about the high-quality programming at C.M. Grant Leadership Academy, 2030 Leonard Ave., Columbus. Perhaps one of Columbus’ best kept secrets in elementary educa-tion, the K-6 community school is now turning heads. Enrollment has more than doubled for fall, 2009, though the school remains committed to maintaining its small school size and nurturing class-rooms. Families are encouraged to apply for enrollment soon, as spaces are filling up fast.

Leading the charge is Michelle Johnson, who also serves as school leader at South Scioto Academy. Essential to both schools are car-ing teachers who provide every student with a program tailored to meet his or her unique needs. “We’ve been helping children who are below grade level, or those with various challenges, become proficient, and those who are at or above grade level excel beyond. The biggest challenge has been letting families know we are here!” explains Johnson.

A t C.M. Grant Leadership Academy, tomorrow’s leaders are developed through focused efforts and hard work in a structured environment. Each student is

provided with an individualized success plan, tailored to meet his or her individual needs. Our quality enrichment programs and committed staff make for a caring and nurturing environment, while our demonstrated, personalized attention ensures that No Child is Left Behind.

What makes us different?

■ FREE tuition ■ Personalized attention ■ Small class sizes ■ Before and after school care ■ Individual student success plans ■ Structured environment ■ Committed and caring staff ■ Newly renovated facilities ■ Transportation available
