December 2012 Volume 6 Issue 3
Once again it is time for the School Report Card to be released. School communi-ties all over the state will be looking at the results and deciding on an action plan for improvement. We are no different. Saint George Middle School’s overall grade is “Average.” This is an improvement from last year’s grade of “Below Average.” This is a wonderful achievement for Saint George Middle School and I would like to thank everyone for their hard work and dedication. Although we are happy with our improving scores, there is still much to be done. We must give our best effort in everything we do; take all tests seriously in order for our true achievement to shine. If everyone at SGMS continues to work hard, there is no limit to our results and Saint George Middle school will continue to move. Keep up the good work everyone!!!
The 21st CCLC is currently sponsoring a Clothing Drive!
If you would like to make a donation, please send clean items to Ms. Chestnut at St. George Middle School.
Clothing will be given to anyone wishing to receive them on December 17th and 18th.

Greetings! Robotics is on my mind as I prepare this article for publication. Robotics
a club which gives students the opportunity to create, problem solve and develop
team skills through the process of programming a robot to complete “missions”. St.
George Middle School has had a Robotics Team for two years now, so we are build-
ing on a firm foundation. This year’s Baby Wolverine Robotics Team
consists of 17 students. They have worked on creating a mat , built and
programmed a robot to do “missions”, researched a solution to the challenges faced
by senior citizens, and explored the core values related to working together as a
team! On Friday, Dec. 7th, our team will get to share what has been
accomplished as we travel to Orangeburg Technical College for a Lego Robotics
Competition. We will get to show what we have done
and see what other teams from across the state have
developed. Our Lego Robotics Team members
(whom Ms. Ramsey and I are very proud of) are
Ajzahn Brown, Amethyst Hoff, Victoria Tripp,
Shauna Behrick, Gavin Miller, Yo’Quan Asbury,
Nicholas Behrick, Angel Shuler, Carolina Ramsey,
Jacob Harrington, Bryant Moore, Daniel Murray,
Stephanie Walters, Meagan Simmons, Kaitlyn
Heinze, and Treyvon Griffin. SG

Saundria D. Washington, Guidance Counselor
On behalf of the Guidance Department, I would like to thank the parents, students, administrators, teach-
ers, and community for their support so far this year. On Thursday, November 8, 2012, we had our 1st Quarter Hon-
ors Program at St. George Middle School. I would like to congratulate those students who were recognized. There
were 93 students who received recognition for making honor roll or principal’s list!
On November 20, 2012, the District Guidance Department held a Character Education Luncheon at the
Lovely Hill Convention Center. The Character Teacher/Staff of the Month for November, Ms. Tamara
Rolack-Small, was recognized at this luncheon. The W.I.N. Students for the Month of November also attended
the luncheon. They are: Stephanie Walters, Dontae Gadson, Kevin Martin, Dillon Mullenix, Quasian Glover,
Joshua Blewer, Sommer Knight, & Mischief Jones.
In recognition of the Thanksgiving Holiday, the Guidance Department coordinates a canned good drive.
This event was very successful and we were able to donate over 400 cans to the food bank at Word of God
Church in St. George.
For the Christmas Holiday, the Guidance Department will sponsor a fundraiser, “Share the Spirit of
Giving”, which will benefit the Pre-K & Kindergarten students at Harleyville and Clay Hill Elementary
Schools. Students are asked to bring in their loose change to make their donations in their homeroom class. The dead-
line to donate is Friday, December 14, 2012.
Please support the efforts of the Guidance Department and send your loose change to school!

The 7th grade team is moving on from Thanks-giving Break to fractions review, French Rev-olution, balancing equations, etc. The teachers are very impressed with the recent projects cre-ated by students for English and Science. We had a great field trip to the beach, and the stu-dents behaved wonderfully— thank you. We look forward to a potential field trip to the Aquari-um because of their great performances. Keep up the good work!
The holidays are rapidly approaching and we are getting ready for 8th grade Indi-vidual Graduation Plan (IGP’s) conferences. The conferences will be for all 8th grade students and their parents to discuss grades, ACT Explore results, identify career goals for high career path, parent survey, and transition. We will NOT be
registering for high school courses. This conference is for individual information for the students’ success and transition to high school. I will send letters home with students and look forward to seeing all of you to discuss your child’s progress. If you should have questions you may contact me at (843) 563-3171.
