Prophet Jesus (PBUH)

A Muslim Perspective

In Islam, Jesus (Isa; Arabic: عیسى ʿĪsā) is considered to be a

Messenger of God and the Masih (Messih) who was sent to

guide the Children of Israel (banī isrā'īl) with a new scripture,

the Injīl or Gospel. The belief in Jesus (and all other

messengers of God) is required in Islam, and a requirement

of being a Muslim. The Quran mentions Jesus by name

twenty-five times. It states that Jesus was born to Mary

(Arabic: Maryam) as the result of virginal conception, a

miraculous event which occurred by the decree of God

(Arabic: Allah). To aid in his ministry to the Jewish people,

Jesus was given the ability to perform miracles as mentioned

in the Holy Quran “I have come to you with a sign from your

Lord, in that I make for you out of clay as it were the figure

of a bird, and breath into it. And it becomes a bird by Allah's

leave. And I heal those born blinds and the lepers. And I

bring and I rise the dead alive by Allah's leave and I declare

to you what you eat and what you store in your homes.

Surely there in is a sign for you if you did believe. 3,34.

” According to the Quran, Jesus, although appearing to

have been crucified, was not killed by crucifixion or by any

other means, instead, "God raised him up to himself".

Muslims believe that Jesus will return to earth near the Day

of Judgment to restore justice and to defeat Masih ad-Dajjal

("the false messiah", also known as the Antichrist). Like all

prophets in Islam, Jesus is considered to have been a

Muslim (i.e., one who submits to the will of God), as he

preached that his followers should adopt the "straight path"

as commanded by God. Islam rejects the Trinitarian

Christian view that Jesus was God incarnate or the son of

God, that he was ever crucified or resurrected, or that he

ever atoned for the sins of mankind. The Quran says that

Jesus himself never claimed any of these things, and it

furthermore indicates that Jesus will deny having ever

claimed divinity at the Last Judgment, and God

Numerous titles are given to Jesus in the Quran and in

Islamic literature, the most common being al-Masīḥ

("the messiah"). Jesus is also, at times, called "Seal of the

Israelite Prophets", because, in general Muslim belief, Jesus

was the last prophet sent by God to guide the Children of

Israel. Jesus is seen in Islam as a precursor to Muhammad,

and is believed by Muslims to have foretold the latter's

coming. PBUHPBUHPBUH

Jesus Narrative In Islam

BirthThe Quranic account of Jesus begins with a prologue, which

describes the birth of his mother, Mary, and her service in

the Jerusalemtemple, while under the care of the prophet

and priest Zechariah, who was to be the father of John the

Baptist.[10] The Quran then goes on to describe the

conception of Jesus. Mary whom the Quran states was

chosen by God over the women of all the worlds, conceives

Jesus while still a virgin.

AnnunciationMary had withdrawn into the Temple, where she was visited

by the angel Gabriel (Arabic: Jibrail) who brought the glad

tidings of a holy son.[11] The Quran states that God sent

the message through the angel Gabriel to Mary, that God

had honoured her among the women of all nations. The

angel also told Mary that she would give birth to a holy son,

named Isa (Jesus), who would be a great prophet, to whom

God would give the Gospel. The angel further told Mary

that Jesus would speak in infancy and maturity and be a

companion to the most righteous. When this news was given

to Mary, she asked the angel how she could conceive and

have a child when no man had touched her.[12] The angel

replied: "Even so: Allah createth what He willeth: When He

hath decreed a plan, He but saith to it, 'Be,' and it is!".[13]

The Quran, therefore, states that Jesus was created from

the act of God's will.

will vindicate him. The Quran emphasizes that Jesus was a

mortal human being who, like all other prophets, had been

divinely chosen to spread God's message. Islamic texts forbid

the association of partners with God (shirk), emphasizing a

strict notion of monotheism (tawhīd).

The Quran compares this miraculous creation of Jesus with

the creation of Adam, where God created Adam by his act

of will (kun-fa-yakun, meaning "Be and it is").[14]

According to the Quran, the same answer was given to the

question of Zechariah, when he asked how his wife,

Elizabeth, could conceive a baby, as she was very old.[15].

This is a tawheedic issue where anybody who submits to the

will of Allah believes in the greatness of Allah ( thus Allaahu

akbar ) and Allah can do as He pleases .

Birth of Jesus

The Quran narrates the virgin birth of Jesus numerous

times. The Quran goes on to narrate that Mary then

brought Jesus to the temple, where she was immediately

ridiculed by all the temple elders. But Zachariah believed in

the virgin birth and supported her. The elders accused Mary

of being a loose woman and having touched another man

while unmarried. In response, Mary pointed to her son,

telling them to talk to him. They were angered at this and

thought she was mocking them, by asking them to speak

with an infant. It was then that God made the infant Jesus

speak from the cradle and he spoke of his prophecy for the

first time. He said, which are verses 19:30-33 in the chapter

of Mary in the Quran:

He said: "I am indeed a servant of Allah: He hath given me

revelation and made me a prophet;

"And He hath made me blessed wheresoever I be, and hath

enjoined on me Prayer and Charity as long as I live;

"(He) hath made me kind to my mother, and not

overbearing or miserable;

"So peace is on me the day I was born, the day that I die,

and the day that I shall be raised up to life (again)"!

—Quran, sura 19 Maryam, ayat 30-33. When the Jews

knew about this , they arrogantly rejected the miraculous

virgin birth and accused Mariam of fornication and

abomination . This is understood, as the social situation at

that time could not accept any birth without a father.

The following facts refute the Jews accusations (a) Adam

was born without father and mother (b)Eve was created out

of Adam's rib (c) Isa(Jesus)spoke from the cradle - a

miracle given by Allah - to refute the Jews' accusations of his

mother's fornication . Had they believed in the greatness

and power of Allah , they would definitely have see and

believed in the evidences put forward

MissionAccording to Islamic texts, Jesus was divinely chosen to

preach the message of monotheism and submission

to the will of God to the Children of Israel (banī isrā'īl).

It is He Who sent down to thee (step by step), in truth, the

Book, confirming what went before it; and He sent down the

Law (ofMoses) and the Gospel (of Jesus) before this, as a

guide to mankind, and He sent down the criterion

(of judgment between right and wrong).—Quran, sura 3 (Al-i-Imran) ayah 3

And in their footsteps We sent Jesus the son of Mary,

confirming the Law that had come before him: We sent him

the Gospel: therein was guidance and light, and

confirmation of the Law that had come before him:

a guidance and an admonition to those who fear Allah.

Let the people of the Gospel judge by what Allah hath

revealed therein. If any do fail to judge by (the light of) what

Allah hath revealed, they are (no better than)

those who rebel.—Quran sura 5, (Al-Ma'ida), ayah 46-47

Muslims believe that God revealed to Jesus a new scripture,

the Injīl (gospel), while also declaring the truth of the

previous revelations – the Tawrat (Torah) and the Zabur

(Psalms). The Quran speaks favorably of the Injīl, which it

describes as a scripture that fills the hearts of its followers

with meekness and piety. The Quran says that the original

biblical message has been distorted or corrupted (tahrif)

over time, from what was originally revealed to the

messengers. In chapter 3, verse 3, and chapter 5, verses

46-47, of the Quran, the revelation of the Injil is mentioned:

The Speed of theBig Bang Explosion:

The balances established with the Big Bang, th

instantaneous formation of the universe, are one of the

proofs that the universe did not come into being by chance.

According to the well-known Adelaide University professor

of mathematical physics Paul Davies, if the rate of

expansion that took place following the Big Bang had been

just one in a billion parts different (1/1018), the universe

could not have come into being. In his book

“A Brief History of Time”, Stephen Hawking recognises this

extraordinary precision in the universe's rate of expansion:

If the rate of expansion one second after the big bang had

been smaller by even one part in a hundred thousand

million, the universe would have recollapsed before it ever

reached its present size.

The Four Forces:All physical motion in the universe comes about thanks to

the interaction and equilibrium of the four forces recognised

by modern physics: gravity, electromagnetic force, strong

nuclear force and weak nuclear force. These forces possess

extraordinarily different values to one another. Michael

Denton, the famous molecular biologist, describes the

extraordinary equilibrium among these forces thus:

If, for example, the gravitational force was a trillion times

stronger, then the universe would be far smaller and its life

history far shorter. An average star would have a mass a

trillion times less than the sun and a life span of about one

year. On the other hand, if gravity had been less powerful,

no stars or galaxies would have ever formed. The other

relationships and values are no less critical. If the strong

force had been just slightly weaker, the only element that

would be stable would be hydrogen. No other atoms could

exist. If it had been slightly stronger in relation to

electromagnetism, then an atomic nucleus consisting of only

two protons would be a stable feature of the universe-which

would mean there would be no hydrogen,

Allah's scientific miracles in theHoly Quran. by Harun Yahya

The distribution of celestial bodies in space and the

enormous spaces between them are essential to the

existence of life on Earth. The distances between celestial

bodies have been set out in a calculation compatible with a

great many powerful universal forces in such a way as to

support life on Earth. In his book Nature's Destiny Michael

Denton describes the distance between supernovae

and stars:

The Distances betweenCelestial Bodies:

The distances between supernovae and indeed between all

stars is critical for other reasons. The distance between stars

in our galaxy is about 30 million miles. If this distance was

much less, planetary orbits would be destabilized. If it was

much more, then the debris thrown out by a supernova

would be so diffusely distributed that planetary systems like

our own would in all probability never form. If the cosmos

is to be a home for life, then the flickering of the supernovae

must occur at a very precise rate and the average distance

between them, and indeed between all stars, must be very

close to the actual observed figure.

Continue………….

and if any stars or galaxies evolved, they would be very

different from the way they are. Clearly, if these various

forces and constants did not have precisely the values they

do, there would be no stars, no supernovae, no planets,

no atoms, no life.

Mother of faithful believers Hadrat Aisha (may Allah bepleased with her) said that she once asked theHoly Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be uponhim), 'Did you face a day severer than the day of the battleof Uhud? 'He answered: 'Yes I have experienced such thingsat the hands of your people and such a day was the day ofAqabah. On this day I presented myself to Abdi lail binAbd Kulal and offered him Islam, but he failed to make anyresponse to what I had offered to him. I therefore, left witha heavy heart and depressed. I felt some relief only when Ireached Qarn Sa'alib. Here I looked up and saw a cloudcovering me. In this cloud I saw Angel Jibril(peace be upon him) who called me and said, "Allah, theMost High, has heard what your people have said to youand the response to your offer. Allah has now sent the Angelof the Mountains to you to carry out your orders to do whatyou might like to be done to them." Then the Angel of theMountains addressed me with Salam and then said,'Muhammad! Allah (The Glorified and the Exalted) hasheard what your people have said to you. I am the Angel ofthe Mountains and my Lord has sent me to you to carryout your orders. What do you want now to be done? If youlike I may crush them between the two mountainsencircling the city of Makkah. The Holy Prophet(may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) replied,"(I do not want their destruction) I am still hopeful thatAllah will make some of their children (good Muslims)who would worship Allah, the One, without associatinganybody with Him." (Bukhari and Muslim).

His ForgivenessHadrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported thata Jewess came to Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessingsand peace be upon him) with poisoned mutton and he tookof what had been brought to him. (When the effect of hispoison were felt by him) he called for her and asked herabout that, whereupon she said, "I had determined to killyou." Thereupon he said, "Allah will never give you the powerto do i t . " He ( the narra tor) sa id tha t they(the Companions of the

Holy Prophet) said. "Should we not kill her?"

Thereupon he said, "No." He (Anas) said, "I felt (the effects

of this poison) on the uvula of Allah's Messenger."

(Muslim)

It has been narrated on the authority of Hadrat Anas bin

Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that eighty persons

from the inhabitants of Makkah swooped down upon

Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be

upon him) from the mountain of Tan'im. They were armed

and wanted to attack the Holy Prophet (may Allah's

blessings and peace be upon him) and his Companions and

catch them unaware. He (the Holy Prophet) captured them

but spared their lives. So, Allah (The Glorified and the

Exalted) revealed the verse: "And It is He Who restrained

your hands from them and their hands from you in the

valley of Makkah after He had given you a victory over

them." (48:24) (Muslim)

His Trust In Allah(The Glorified and the Exalted)

It has been narrated on the authority of Hadrat Anas

(may Allah be pleased with him) that on the Day of Hunain,

Umm Sulaim took out a dagger she had in her possession.

Hadrat Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) saw her

and said, "Messenger of Allah, this is Umm Sulaim. She is

holding a dagger." Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings

and peace be upon him) asked (her), "What are you holding

that dagger for?" She said, "I took it up so that I may tear

open the belly of a polytheist who comes near me.

" Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be

upon him) began to smile (at those words). She said,

"Messenger of Allah! Kill all those peopleother than us

whom thou hast declared to be free (on the day of the

Conquest of Makka). (They embraced Islam because) they

were defeated at your hands (and as such their Islam is not

dependable)." Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and

peace be upon him) said, "Umm Sulaim, Allah is sufficient

(against the mischief of the polytheists) and He will be kind

to us (so you need not carry this dagger)." (Muslim)

He fought only for Allah(The Glorified and the Exalted)

Mother of faithful believers, Hadrat Aisha (may Allah be

pleased with her) said that the Holy Prophet (may Allah's

blessings and peace be upon him) never struck anybody with

his hand, neither a servant nor a women, but he did fight

(jihad) in the cause of Allah. He never avenged any wrong

done to him personally, but he did avenge a wrong violating

divine commandments. (Muslim)

Mercy To All MankindHadrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him)said: the Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be uponhim) was asked to curse the infidels. He said,"I have not been sent to curse people but as a mercy toall mankind. " (Muslim)

(may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him)

He prayed for the leader of theMunafiqeen (Hypocrites)

Hadrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) said

that a man who had died in debt would be brought to

Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be

upon him) and he would ask whether he had left anything

to discharge his debt. If he was told that he had left enough

he would pray, otherwise he would tell the Muslims to pray

over their friend. But when Allah (The Glorified and the

Exalted) brought the conquests at his hands he stood up

and said, "I am closer to the believers than their own selves,

* so if any of the believers dies leaving a debt I shall be

responsible for paying it, and if anyone leaves property it

goes to his heirs." (Bukhari and Muslim)*(Qur'an, 33:6)

Narrated Hadrat Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with

him), "When 'Abdullah bin 'Ubai died, his son 'Abdullah

came to Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace

be upon him) and asked him to give him his shirt in order

to shroud his father in it. He gave it to him and then

'Abdullah asked the Prophet (may Allah's blessings and

peace be upon him) to offer the funeral prayer for him

(his father). Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and

peace be upon him) got up to offer the funeral prayer for

him, Sayyidina 'Umar got up too and got hold of the

garment of Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and

peace be upon him) and said, "O Allah's Messenger!

Will you offer the funeral prayer for him though your Lord

has forbidden you to offer the prayer for him?" Allah's

Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him)

said, "But Allah has given me the choice by saying:-

'Whether you ask forgiveness for them, or do not ask

forgiveness for them; even if you ask forgiveness for them

seventy times....' (9:80)

So I will ask more than seventy times." Sayyidina 'Umar

(may Allah be pleased with him) said, "But he

(Abdullah bin 'Ubai) is a hypocrite!" However, Allah's

Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him)

did offer the funeral prayer for him whereupon

Allah revealed:-

'And never (O Muhammad) pray for anyone of them that

dies, nor stand at his grave.' (9:84) * (Bukhari)

*The complete verse is: "And never (O Muhammad) pray

for anyone of them that dies nor stand at his grave.

Lo! they disbelieved in Allah and His Messenger and they

died while they were evil-doers." (9:84)

His GentlenessHadrat Anas (may Allah bepleased with him) said,"While we were in themosque w i th A l lah ' sMessenger (may Allah'sblessings and peace beupon him) a desert Arabcame and began to passwater in the mosque. Thecompanions of Allah'sM e s s e n g e r s a i d ,"Stop! Stop!" but Allah'sM e s s e n g e r(may Allah's blessings andpeace be upon him) said,

"Don't interrupt him; leave him alone." They left him alone, and when he had finished, Allah's Messenger (may Allah'sblessings and peace be upon him) called him and said tohim, "These mosques are not suitable places for urine andfilth, but are only for remembrance of Allah, prayer andrecitation of the Qur'an," or however Allah's Messengerexpressed it.* Hadrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him)said that he then gave orders to one of the people whobrought a bucket and poured water over it.
