Chris Winchester who works at Sainsbury’s

Holywood Exchange Store as part of the

Interserve cleaning team, recently received

a generous reward cheque of £100 from a

delighted elderly lady and her Family. The

lady, age 85, had lost a precious gold ring,

the last thing that her late husband had

given her. While carrying out daily clean-

ing around the milk section, Chris found

the lost item attached to his cleaning mop.

The lady was so delighted to be reunited

with the ring that the family awarded the

colleague with £100. Chris then in turn,

kindly donated the majority of the money

that he had received to the Sainsburys

Holywood Charity Partner, Age NI.

It has been a fantastic year at Deborah Harper Makeup and Beauty. This is our 2nd Christmas in the salon in Helen’s Bay and if you haven’t already popped in - please do! Every Thursday night in December we have mulled wine, mince pies and fab gifts for you to browse and of course gift vouchers that such a lovely way to show you care. There are plenty of things to get excited about and here are our FIVE FESTIVE FAVES!

FIVE FESTIVE FAVES

As soon as we hit the winter season I am always ready to embrace the dark, rich berry red lips, lots of mascara and perfectly defined brows! Check out this gorgeous Senna lipstick in Garnet! Beautiful.

2. Berry Lipstick

1. Cosy ClothesI actually love the dark nights and getting wrapped up in jumpers, coats, scarves and hitting the town center to get a coffee with friends and do a little shopping!

Strictly Come Dancing is back on our screens and we are going mad for all the fab glitter eyeshadows and accessories! I love BarryM and Urban Decay for a great se-lection, just apply a little sparkle over your everyday eyeshadow and I am in no doubt you will feel that little bit extra special for your Christmas do, family dinner or girls night out!

4. Sparkle!

I was so impressed with Lady Sylvia Hermon who said even with all her work and travelling to London she does her shopping in her constituency of North Down. It has really inspired me to shop local and support so many of the beautiful shops on my doorstep!

3. Keep it Local

I have discovered a range of nail polishes that not only do I love so much we have brought them into the salon but I can honestly say I have never used a polish with such beautiful colours and sparkle! I am loving ‘Fit for a Queen’.

We had the pleasure of meeting Kam who is an incredibly

enthusiastic and passionate man who was keen to do something

a little bit different. We are certainly not short on choice when

it comes to Asian and Chinese restaurants here in Northern

Ireland, so for Kam, when he planned The Asian Legend, it had to

be special. And Kam has exceeded his goal. Inside, the redesign

has a deluxe and stunning warmth with authentic touches and

an impeccable attention to detail. Plus, those views out across

the lough have to be seen to be believed. The menu features a

diverse line up spanning Chinese, Asian, Thai Korean and Japanese.

Business is steadily building up for Kam and his team with a

growing list of regulars coming back for more which is credit

to the staff both in the kitchen and front of house. The duck is

proving to be very popular and is becoming a house favourite.

We had the delight of tasting just a few of the dishes on offer.

To start, we had the freshly cooked crispy aromatic duck which

was a beautifully moist and perfectly cooked. The sauce was a

sensation! We also had the salted & chilli chicken, a classic, which

was again cooked perfectly and had all of us reaching for more.

Then followed Chicken Curry and boiled rice and Beef Pad Thai,

both of which were extremely popular and tasted so fresh and

were evidently passionately put together. Of course you can also

enjoy in comfort of own home with the take away service and

the restaurant is available to book for private parties/functions

and will have a karaoke machine very soon for such events. At

the moment there is a fantasic evening offer - 2 courses for £9.50

served from Sunday to Thursday. Kids meals also available. Thank

you to Kam and his team for inviting us and we look forward to

another Legendary meal very soon.

You may have noticed a lot of work going on at the former site of The Water Margin. Extensive refurbishment work has been undertaken by new owner Kam and the result; The Asian Legend. A brand new Chinese and Asian restaurant with a wonderful menu and a simply sumptuous interior with stunning coastal views.

Tried & Tested - By Us

Artiqua

Juanita: Ruth from the Beauty

Studio kindly invited me

along for a fab new facial

on offer there - The Guinot

Hydrathermie. It really is the

‘do all facial!’ Deep cleansing,

exfoliation, extraction, massage.

Everything! 1hr 15 mins

well spent. It started off with

some very wise words from

Ruth advising me about skin

care. Much needed and much

appreciated. Then she explained

the process; Ionised gels and

rollers are applied to the face

allowing the active ingredients to

Angela: “It’s that time again when

we all tend to light candles in the

home much more with the dark

nights closing in. The choice out

there is huge but some candles

have a unique edge and Artiqua

on the High street certainly offer

a range that is one of a kind.

They are Maria Buytaert candles

and they have been making them

since 1969. Firstly, initially they

perhaps look on paper like an

ordinary candle but there are

some stark differences. During

production, at least one candle

per lot is burned completely in

order to ensure that it lives up

to the Maria Buytaert Candle

standards and that it meets the

requirements imposed by the

RAL Quality Mark. Only once

a candle has passed all of these

test can it be sold as a genuine

Maria Buytaert Candle. Dripping

is reduced by using only the very

best wicks, free of any impurities.

In order to get the best effect,

I was advised to let the candle

burn for 3 to 4 hours after first

lighting it. Then after a few days

of burning it took on a new

shape and began to open, or

blossom, peeling down each side.

Amazing! So not only was the

fragrance soothing and beautiful

but it takes on an entirely new

form as it burns. Burning time

lasts from 90 up to 200 hours

depending on size.”

penetrate into the deeper layers

of the skin. Guinot is about

fixing any problems where the

skin is made and not on the

surface. Then we finish off with

high frequency, which leaves an

antibacterial germicidal layer

on the skin, helping to control

oil production. I was very cosy

in a heated blanket throughout.

Ruth was amazing, making me

feel very relaxed. An amazing

feeling of comfort. I could

easily become addicted to these.

At £44, surely the perfect gift

Christmas.”

Since it was set up in March of this

year, Cloth Nappy Library NI run

by a group of dedicated mums for

mums, has not only broken world

records and received full backing

from Stormont but can now

add award winner to their list of

achievements.

Cloth Nappy Library NI received

a Highly Commended award for

Waste Reduction Project of the Year

at the prestigious UTV Business Eye

Awards, held at the Culloden Estate

and Spa, Holywood. Speaking about

the evening, Belfast Cloth Champion,

Andrea O’Brien added “To even

be shortlisted was an award in

itself, however to be recognised

amongst the best in Business within

Northern Ireland was like a dream

come true. We are a not for profit

organisation run solely by volunteers

and this award demonstrates the

hard work and commitment that the

What started out as a simple idea discussed over a cup of coffee, has led, 6 months later, to a thriving Cloth Nappy Library and a prestigious national award. Here’s the remarkable story...

Fan of the cloth

30 bloommagazine.co.uk

mums on the team have put into the

project, in their free time, for the

advantage of others.”

‘There’s no doubt that cloth nappies

are becoming increasingly popular

with mums and dads today,’ Andrea

added. ‘We’ve moved so far from the

old, dated traditional view of cloth

nappies to one which is now smart,

comfy, easy on the eye and – above

all else – great for the environment!

The arrival of the library system

means that parents can now benefit

from all of the advantages of the

cloth nappies AND do it without

a large, initial outlay. The library

service makes using reusable

nappies easy on the purse – and the

environment!’

In order to raise the profile of the

Cloth Nappy Library, they were

involved with European Week

for Waste Reduction 16th-24th

November. “We ran an event

the bottom line

every day during EWWR, so

everyone across the province had

an opportunity to pop along, ask

questions and see the modern cloth

nappy in real life. We also released

our kits out for hire at a special

discounted price over that week.”

Cloth Nappy Library NI holds a

Nappuccino on the third Tuesday

of every month in Mookie World,

Dondonald from 10am-12pm. This

is an opportunity to have a look at

the nappies on the market at the

moment, and see how they work -

and also to meet other mums. If you

are interested and want to find out

more, you can contact them via their

website www.clothnappylibraryni.

com or the Cloth Nappy Library

Facebook page, where all details of

upcoming events can be found.
