All of the staff and students have had a great time down at the pool. A big thank you goes to all of our instructors and teachers who have delivered lessons. Also, to the pool staff who have dished up some delicious snacks for them too! There is no doubt the remainder of 2014 will be action packed. We have some staffing opportunities, reports to submit, Reward Day in Griffith and Presentation Night all to come in the next 2 weeks! It is going to be a fantastic way to finish off a really rewarding, productive year, both in and outside of the classroom. This week we found out that Mr Currey will be off to Parkes High School as a Deputy Principal. We wish him all the very best of luck and hope Adam, Kathryn and the girls settle in well. We will definitely miss seeing you around! Last week you may remember we hosted Miss Nina Neal for her Beyond the Line visit. She thoroughly enjoyed her time at Ungarie and loved being a part of the school and our community. Well, we are very excited to announce that Miss Neal will be back on deck with us for Semester 1, 2015. Currently, all our staff are putting the finishing touches to all of our Semester 2 Reports. These reports outline each student’s effort and achievement during Terms 3 & 4. I am sure the results will be well earned and reflect the tireless efforts students have put into their learning and set a benchmark to launch into 2015 with! See you all soon! News this week

This week is the last week of our Intensive Swimming Program.

Hats Students are reminded they must wear a hat at school when outside. The weather is warming up and sun protection is extremely important. Remember no hat, no play!

UCS Carols in the Park Our Ungarie Central School Carols in the Park will be held on Wednesday 17th December. The night will begin at 7pm with a BBQ and the carols will start at 7.45pm. K-6 will once again perform during the night. It would be fantastic if they could wear a Christmas t-shirt and hat. Bring your singing voices and Christmas cheer!

Reward Day Don’t forget to return Reward Day notes and money by Friday 5th December (tomorrow). This will be a fun day to celebrate the end of a successful year of learning for our students. 8 days until Reward Day!

Active After School Communities (AASC) Christmas Party

The AASC Christmas Party will be held next Monday 8th December at 3.30pm-4.30pm. All students who participate in AASC are invited to attend. Please bring a set of old clothes and a towel as you will get dirty. This will be the last lesson of AASC. Unfortunately there will be no AASC next year as it is no longer a funded program. Thank you to Emma for her hard work over the years. It has been a rewarding and enjoyable program for all students involved.

Metalearning

Secondary How2Learn Session This week, the secondary student session for How2Learn was focussed on Metalearning, led by Miss Imrie and Mrs Jackson. Students participated in an activity based around them learning to construct a paddlepop stick chain reaction (google it – it’s pretty cool to watch, but challenging to learn to build) using either just written instructions, written instructions with accompanying pictures, a how-to style video or an instructor (a student who knows how to build it). This gave students the opportunity to see for themselves which style of learning suits them best in this type of activity. After a set amount of time and some discussion, students were given the chance to move to a group that was using a method students felt more comfortable with, and have another go at building the chain reaction. By the end, nearly everyone had built one successfully – as Mrs Jackson knows, it is a tricky thing to build when you are working from scratch, and can be very frustrating! Most students persevered and got it in the end, which was great to see! The final activity was a Sudoku challenge, where students had to develop strategies to complete the numbered squares correctly.

Presentation Night Next Wednesday Night Ungarie Memorial Hall,

EVERYONE WELCOME!

Head Teacher Secondary Studies

Congratulations to our Super 8's Under 14's boy and girls cricket teams that represented the school on Tuesday at Dubbo. The boys finished third overall and had some good wins throughout the day, beating the eventual winners earlier in the draw. The girls unfortunately did not manage a win but they improved with every game. Margaret Izzard hit possibly the biggest six of the day. Ruby Henley was nominated the Most Valuable Player of the tournament for the Under 14's Girls. Well done Ruby!! With just two weeks left of school to go there are plenty events coming up. I look forward to seeing everyone out and about at these. Our music kids will be performing in West Wyalong tonight for late night shopping, we have Presentation Night, Reward Day and Carols in the Park, (Roscarel's Carols) to take place over the next two weeks. Have a great weekend!! Regards Mr Currey.
