EDITORIAL MESSAGE

Dear Readers,

This is Aegle Vista welcoming you to its Issue no 14, Volume 2.This edition will put on show theactivities and accomplishments of the college from July to December, 2014. This part of the year isusually one of varied activities; with semesters drawing to an end for some and beginning for others. The atmosphere in the campus reflected the solemnity of examinations that were being conducted, asmuch as it did the conduct of Orientation Programmes and the Freshers' Party for the first year students.

The college celebrated Graduation Day in the month of July. This is an important event in the academicschedule of the college, conducted with great fanfare. Students and their performances are recognizedand awarded on this day. The college bid them a fond goodbye from its portals and launched them intohigher endeavors of life, be it higher education or placements in reputed companies.

The new batch of students of B. Tech first year joined the college in September. An OrientationProgramme was held in the same month for them. Students were formally introduced to the collegefacilities and the faculty. They were informed of the rules and regulations of the college and the schedulesthey needed to adhere to, in the pursuit of their goals. The Heads of the Departments urged them toexcel in their academics, achieve their goals and carve out successful careers for themselves in life.

The Freshers' Day arrived with great pomp and pageantry. The day brought in great joy and enthusiasmfor both the freshers and the seniors. The fresh batch of students brought new zeal and expectation intothe campus. Their arrival every year motivates the college to provide the best of its resources to them, inthe form of infrastructure and faculty. The infrastructure is constantly being enhanced, to meet thedemands in the field of technology.

The placements this year have been extremely good thus far. The college has been able to find placementsfor a large number of its students already. Several reputed companies visited the college and manystudents have been successfully selected to work for them. Many other companies are expected to visitthe campus for placements. The college is sure it will be able to place many more students by the end ofthe academic year. The Chairman's emphasis on employability skills has yielded good results in that theplacements have been commendable through the years.

All these endeavours that the college boasts of are overseen by our Chairman, Dr. C. V. Raghava, under whose able leadership and due to whose relentless insistence on consistency and commitment, the Institution is scaling new heights.

The editorial team solicits your valuable suggestions for its improvement and wishes everyone a successfulyear.

Happy New Year and Happy Reading !

We should not give up and we should not allow the problem to defeat us. APJ Abdul kalam

Student Orientation Programme is a platform in whichfreshers who join an educational institution are officiallywelcomed onto the campus. They are provided informationabout the Institution they have enrolled into. They are coopted into the vision and the aims the Institution has set upfor itself. The programme offers an overview of the structureof the course, the resources and the facilities the campusprovides them. Faculty members introduce themselves to thestudents and parents on this occasion.

CVR College of Engineering organized a two day OrientationProgramme for its 14th batch of B. Tech first year students. The programme was conducted on 10th September, 2014 forCSE, IT, Civil and Mechanical branches of Engineering andon 11th September, 2014 for ECE, EEE, EIE branches at thecollege auditorium. The Chairman of the college, Dr. C. V.Raghava, along with the Director, Dr. K. Rama Sastri,Principal, Dr. A. D. Rajkumar and all the Heads of theDepartments participated in the programme. Lecture on Computer Basics

Presentation on Computers

In today's dynamic environment, knowledge of technology and theability to use it often proves to be a differentiator with a profoundimpact on the employability of an individual. In the recent past, therehas been a lot of focus on imparting knowledge of computers tochildren. The government of Telengana funded the Mandal and villageschools to acquire computers. This was done within a largerframework, to equip the students to meet the demands of theenvironment head on. Unfortunately, the transfer of knowledge tothe students studying in these schools leaves a lot to be desired.

The Hindu published an article on 24th March, 2014 titled"Government school students are digital have-nots here; Computersare dumped in a corner, with no repairs or instructors". This articlebrought out the pitiable state of thousands of students in government-managed schools. Even though the State Govt funded procurementof computers at the Mandal and village schools, there were noinstructors to teach the students and hardware was of no use. So thesecomputers remained mere show pieces at these institutions.

The article inspired the students of CVR College of Engineering andthey took it upon themselves to mend this pitiable situation as best as they could. As a pilot project, the studentsof CVR identified the ZPH School of Sheriguda, Ibrahimpatnam where they took it upon themselves to servicea few of their systems and to educate the students on the use of computers, once a week. They conductedclasses for the students of 6th, 7th and 8th standards so that they became familiar with computers and the use ofMicrosoft Office and other application softwares. They also helped the school management to maintain theircomputers lab. The computer classes were conducted after the regular college and school hours of CVR andZPHS respectively. The school students were found to be highly motivated, enthusiastic and eager about theclasses.

Mr. B. Srinivas, the Head-Master (Gazette officer rank) of the nearby ZPHS, was very appreciative of thisinitiative. The project has also been a source of immense satisfaction to the students of CVRCE. Prof. VargheseThattil was the guiding force behind this endeavor.

Students who participated in this initiative were:1. Nitin Kumar Nagamalla (2014 passed out 10B81A0449)2. Gagan Sai Musinipally (2014 passed out 10B81A0422)3. Abhilash Kumbala (12B81A0404)4. Akhilesh Swaroop Joshi (12B81A0411)5. Arvind Beerelli (12B81A1006)6. Seema Munawara (12B81A04G6)

PLACEMENT ROUND UP

The Placement Office performed exceptionally well in shaping students’ careers and gave students diversifiedopportunities to begin with, on their first job in their careers. New corporate companies visited CVRCE thisyear. Some of them were MuSigma, Mindtree, GlobalEdge and Teradata.

The college has performed so well with regard to putting up worthy students for placements that Virtusa hasconsidered CVR College of Engineering as a partner college to setup its PEGA Center of Excellence. Twofaculty members, Suhail Afroze and Seetharam Nagesh underwent training at Virtusa for about a month onPEGA – BPM Software.
