I hope everyone has had a wonderful Fall. We had a lot of successful events in November that brought our Lodge family and guests together. One event in particular I attended was the Creative Spirits painting on November 13. Though I have professional artists in my family, those talents did not shine through to me. Nonetheless, I thoroughly enjoyed trying something new.
It is refreshing to hear about and attend all of the unique opportunities to gather with members and have fun. Check out this month’s calendar and take some time to enjoy an event that you may not normally attend. You might learn something new about yourself and your fellow members.
Please mark your calendars for the annual Memorial Service to honor our deceased members. The event is Sunday, December 6, 2015, 1 p.m. This is an especially important event that I encourage anyone who has the time to attend.
Have a wonderful holiday season and I wish everyone a great start to a new year.

The Veteran’s Breakfast on November 21 turned out to be quite successful despite the snow storm the night before. A big “thank you” for the following food donations: Craig Schumacher - scrambled eggs, biscuits & gravy; Larry Goodale – fresh fruit; and Hy-Vee - cinnamon rolls, milk and orange juice. Marc Clayton, Jerry Cable, Jr., Mitch & Kim Dillavou and Karla Kelly volunteered their time to prepare and serve the meal. Bartender Katie came out early on a snowy day to help, as well. Thanks everyone - couldn’t have done it without you!!
The free-will donation money will go to the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown to be used for their Recreation Fund or Christmas Fund. Thanks to all who supported this worthwhile cause by coming out and enjoying a great all-you-can-eat breakfast.
We have officially surpassed our Elks National Foundation donation goal! We are now eligible to receive a $2,500 Gratitude Grant to be used for a community improvement – helping Veterans, youth or fellow citizens. If you have any ideas with regard to a project, please contact me.Thanks to all who have donated to the ENF! I would especially like to thank those repeat donors for their continued support and generous donations. Without you, it would definitely be a challenge to reach our goal.
