What’s happening at City Sustainability? There’s always a lot going on in the Sustainability department so we thought we would share with you some of our highlights!

New Landcare Facilitator Last month City Sustainability welcomed Jileena Cole to the team. Jileena will be taking on the role of Landcare facilitator and will be working with the MAD for the Merri and Warrnambool Coastcare Landcare groups. If you would like to contact Jileena you can by either emailing [email protected] or by calling her on 03 5559 4435. Jileena will be in the office on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Community Development Fund Congratulations to the successful applicants of Warrnambool City Council’s Community Development Fund received a number of app in the sustainability section; • Tozer Rd Reserve • Warrnambool Community Garden • Warrnambool • Friends of Platypus Park All these groups put forward great submissions for projects that will help protect and enhance our environment. We look forward to seeing the results.

Ride to Work Day The annual Ride to work day was held 12th October and although the weather was not kind there were some brave souls who braved the elements and made it to the Civic Green where they enjoyed a hearty breakfast along with door prizes and short films on walking to school and electric bikes.

Warrnambool Walks Launch event The Warrnambool Walks program was launched Encouraging school kids to commit to walking to or from school at least three times a week.

The launch was held near St Josephs Primary school and children and their parents enjoyed a range of activities and information aimed at getting higher participation levels for walking. The Warrnambool Walks Facebook page has also been developed to encourage people who like to walk to share their hints and tips.

New Electric Bike Sustainable transport is important to us at City Sustainability and in a bid to cut down our fleet emissions we have just purchased our second ebike to get Council Officers around town. This bike is available to all workers as an alternative to booking a vehicle when travelling to work related appointments. The bike gets us outside and fitter while having a lesser impact on the environment. Win-Win!!
