Important School Policy Reminder

for Parents/Guardians

Please remember that you need to contact school

NO LATER THAN 2:30 pm if your child is going

home a different way than usual (i.e. parent picking

up rather than riding the bus, etc.).

These requests will only be accepted by a written

note from parent/guardian or direct phone call to

office staff. We will not accept verbal notice from

students for this. This is an important safety policy.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Nurse’s Notes Flu season is upon us! The best way to avoid getting

sick is by washing your hands. It is recommended to

wash hands for 20 seconds to make it as effective as

possible. A fun way to do make sure that happens is

to have your child sing while washing hands!

Try this – Sing to the tune of “Row Your Boat” -

“Wash wash wash your hands, wash them nice and

clean. Scrub the fronts and scrub the backs and

scrub the in betweens,” Do this twice and it should

add up to 20 seconds!

Reminders Please dress your child appropriately, as

they will be going outside for recess.

Please send extra clothes for your children if

need be – especially pants.

If your child is sent home wearing clothes

that were loaned to them from the Nurse’s

office, please wash them and return them. I

have a very limited amount of clothes to

loan out and need them back.

PRIDE

PRIDE is a leadership group made up of 4th and 5th grade

students who want to make a difference in their school

and community. Students who wanted to join PRIDE

wrote an essay in September and had their parent and

teacher sign off on it. These selected school leaders will

meet the 2nd Tuesday of each month to promote school

spirit, such as theme days, as well as ways to give back

to the community. Tuesday, December 13 is our first School Store! The

school store will be open as students come to school, and

will be located by the front office. Be sure to bring

some spending money! For sale will be pens, erasers,

pencils, and other fun school supplies! Tuesday, December 20 is Fancy Day! Show your

school spirit by dressing up and looking fancy! Students

are encouraged to wear, dresses, dress shirts, ties, or

skirts. Collect Box Tops! This year PRIDE will sponsor a

classroom competition between classrooms to see which

class can collect the most box tops. The class with the

most box tops by May 1st will win a popcorn

party! Have your student bring in any clipped box tops

to their classroom teacher. All money raised will go to

support our Palmer Lake PTA. Upcoming PRIDE 2016-2017 meeting dates: December

13, January 9, and February 14. All meetings start at

8:00 AM in room 12. Mrs. Broberg, Ms. Haugen, Mr. Waltz, & Mrs.

Palmer Lake Volunteering

Thank you to all of our dedicated volunteers who

make Palmer Lake great! We appreciate your time

and efforts inside and outside of our classrooms.

If you are available, please join us December 1 at

9:00am. We have an all school assembly and you

are invited as a special, appreciated guest. We’d like

to say thank you.

need a few helpers! STEM programming, snacks

and fun!

Multicultural Festival (later February/March) we’ll

need LOTS of helpers for our games and activities.

special hobby or cultural talent? – please let us

Reminder: 2016-17 Palmer Lake

Policy on Birthday Treats

At Palmer Lake, students are NOT allowed

to bring birthday treats to school. While this

may seem like another way to squash the fun

out of school, there are three reasons for this

policy:

1. Many students have allergies

2. Serving and consuming treats takes

critical time away from instruction

3. We simply want to promote a

healthier diet. There are other, more

nutritious ways to have fun in school.

4. Thank you for your cooperation with

and understanding.

Seeking affirmation regarding what daily life and struggles can be like for other parents with gifted kids #2 December 6th, 2016 6:00-7:30 PM Oak View Elementary Media Center * Childcare will be provided for children ages 4 and older in room 39, also known as the art room.

Topic Focus: Organization Issues and Common Sense Support. Do you feel like you are living with a version of ‘Pigpen’ from Charles Schultz’s Peanuts, or the stereotypical absent minded professor? Reading for pleasure unlocks the power of information and imagination and helps children discover who they are.

Here’s what you can do to help children develop stronger reading skills and a love

for reading:

Set the example. Let children see you read.

Have a collection of books in your home. Update this collection routinely to keep pace

with changing tastes and reading skills.

Support our school’s Book Fair. Allow your children to choose their own books

to read.

Our Scholastic Book Fair is a reading event that brings the books kids want to read right into our school. It’s a

wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level. Please make plans to visit our Book

Fair and be involved in shaping your child’s reading habits.
