ROCK REPORTThe Rock Trust aims to build better futures for young homeless people
During November, over 280 supporters young people, individuals and
teams from schools, universities and local businesses donned their layers
and winter woolies and spent a night outside in Edinburgh city centre.
The Sleep Out aims to raise awareness of the challenges faced by many 1625
year olds every night across the UK. It is not intended to replicate homelessness
in any way, but rather show solidarity, raise funds and awareness and highlight
the struggles some young people face.
4th November: Our End Youth Homelessness Sleep Out took place in Festival
Square and raised just over £47,000. As well as individuals, including Ben
Macpherson, MSP for Edinburgh Northern and Leith, teams of students and
colleagues from local and national companies joined the Sleep Out – including
Heriot Watt University, Dune London, Islamic Society of Edinburgh University, DJ
Alexander, Team Holyrood, Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce, Wood Mackenzie,
Scottish Widows and the Alliance Trust. After presentations about the issues
young people face, there was entertainment and food, a shelter building
competition and a bed time story read by Forth 1’s Mark Martin. It was then time
to bed down on the cardboard to face the chilly and noisy night ahead.
25th November: Our Under 21 Sleep Out saw an incredible 190 young people
from Edinburgh, Midlothian, East Lothian and Fife take up the challenge and
sleep out on George Street, battling against minus temperatures and raising over
£17,000 to help us support vulnerable young people in our community.

A resounding success for Sleep Out 2016!
To all our supporters, volunteers, fundraisers, donors and participants
thank you we could not do what we do without you!
In 2015/16:
Celebrating 25 years The Rock Trust has been fighting to end youth
homelessness for a quarter of a century! In
September, we celebrated our birthday in style with
an event at the Scottish Parliament which
recognised past achievements, celebrated the
growth of the Trust from the beginning to now, set
out our vision for the future and our aspirations and
aims to End Youth Homelessness.
We would like to thank all of our service users,
supporters, volunteers and staff members who
have helped us on our journey to end youth
homelessness in our society. Here's to another 25
years of the Rock Trust!
In October, we attended the PRide Awards Scotland,
an awards ceremony to recognise the outstanding PR
work delivered across Scotland.
We were delighted to beat off stiff competition and win
the gold award for ‘Best Not for Profit Campaign’ for our
2015 Sleep Out campaign!
We owe a huge thank you to Pagoda Porter Novelli who
have generously supported us probono with our PR
activity since 2013. With very little budget we worked
together on this campaign, developed a crossplatform
social media strategy and organised photo calls and sent
out press releases to try and get as much engagement
and awareness as possible for our flagship fundraising
event, the EYH Sleep Out.
PRide gold award winners!
