Officer and Committee News

WACGC PRESIDENT Terry Sisto, Ford’s Colony Garden Club [email protected] , 757-345-2478

I love this time of year, especially since moving to Williamsburg. When it comes to holiday decorating - magnolias, fruits, berries, holly and candles in the windows are a few of my favorite things. I hope to see many of you at Green Spring Garden Club’s Christmas House Tour on Saturday, December 2nd.

November Projects - At the beginning of the month club members arrived at the Hospice House with garden trowels in hand. In a short time, the flower beds were full of happy-faced pansies. Then, at the end of the month, several talented members came together to decorate wreaths for City of Williamsburg buildings. Thanks to Dollie Marshall for organizing the pansy planting and to Mary Grogan for the wreath decorating project.

The Baldwin Garden has a new bench which was generously donated by the Dogwood Garden Club. A dedication ceremony was held on November 15th with several members and a few invited guests in attendance. The club’s last President, Nan Eddins, welcomed all and dedicated the bench to commemorate the club’s 54 years. Geneva Hunt spoke of the history of the club, starting with its first meeting in 1963, its many activities, flower shows, Council involvement, etc., but most of all the memories of fun, laughter and friendships. I was honored to be a part of this celebration.

Please join me in welcoming Debbie Abrams to the WACGC Board as our Ways & Means Committee Chair. Debbie is a member of the Ford’s Colony Garden Club and has chaired several committees. She will be a wonderful addition to our Board.

Before the December rush takes over your life take a minute to put the WACGC January General Meeting date on your calendar, Thursday, January 25, 2018. Our host, Berkeley Garden Club has secured community room C at the James City County Parks & Recreation and Rosie Crocco is busy finalizing the program arrangements. Detailed information will be in next month’s newsletter. The WACGC Board will meet on Friday, January 12, 2018, 9:30a, at Towne Bank, New Town.

Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to all!

WACGC HOSPICE HOUSE Dollie Marshall, The Williamsburg Garden Club [email protected]

With the loss of two of longstanding garden clubs, Dogwood and Kingspoint, the complete schedule for 2017-2018 flower arrangers must be changed and will be decided upon at the January WACGC Board meeting. The following schedule will stand until that time; please note the assignment change for January.

Clubs responsible for upcoming arrangements: December – Colonial Heritage Garden Club January – Fords Colony Garden Club

Pansy Planting: We had great planting weather and made quick work of the hundreds of plants obtained from Homestead. Gary had the summer plants removed, soil prepared, as well as doughnuts and coffee waiting when we arrived. Thanks to all who participated to make the Fall and Winter landscaping welcoming for the cold months ahead. There were six clubs represented.

• Brandon Woods: Ellen Schiavone

• Colonial Heritage: Jeanne Schemering, Becky Hubbard

• Ford’s Colony and Green Springs: Marijane Harper

• Williamsburg Garden Club: Alice Krebs, Libbey Oliver, Susan Sims, Beth Stabler, Dollie Marshall, as well as, Wellford Marshall

• Toano Garden Club: Beverley Smith

Our sincere thanks to WACGC clubs for providing year-round support for our friends, their families, and neighbors who have visited Hospice.
