Heritage HillsLoving Hearts & Hands

“Dress A Girl”Another Bag and Tag is in the record books for the Heritage Hills

Dress A Girl group! On November 1 we met to collect, size and match with a doll and either a purse, headband or intimate garment, a total of 246 dresses for shipment to little girls all over the world! And, we’re ready and excited to begin our 4th year of sewing!

Thanks to the generosity and support of the Heritage Hills community we have collected enough funds to really get us started in 2018. How can we thank you enough? Well, one way is to have an Open House at one of our meetings in the first quarter of the new year so you can all stop in to see for yourself how it all comes together. We will have stations where you will see ladies cutting and sewing the dresses, sewing and painting little dolls and, of course, stations where you can grab a snack to munch as you walk around and observe what we love doing! Look for an announcement after the first of the year with the date and time and please come out to see for yourself all the ways your money is put to good use.

Take a look at some of the pictures taken during our Bag & Tag as well as some pictures shared with us by Cyndy Mattack sent to her from a group who took 50 Dress A Girl dresses to Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. We recognize several of the dresses in the pictures to be ones we made right here in Heritage Hills as well as several of our beautiful dolls. I may be just a bit prejudiced, but folks, the ladies who sew these dresses here in HH do some of the most beautiful work you will find anywhere. You can be proud of this community!!Our next meetings are planned for December 6 and January 3, both at 10 AM in the Toscana Ballroom.

Facts from the RAC Transition TeamAfter several months of researching, interviewing and going through

our community with individual consulting/engineering companies we have made our recommendation to Lennar. The company we chose is Hoy and Miller Engineering and Consulting Company. Information about the company can be found on their website at www.hoymiller.com.

As presented at our last Resident Transition Committee Meeting, all the information can be found on the Heritage Hills website under documents. There you will find comparisons made amongst our finalists for doing our engineering study.

I want to thank everyone who was involved in this very detailed process. Paul Offutt, our resident engineering person, John Rumph who assisted in the actual inspection of our property and Eric Sorkin our Resident Board Member. I also want to thank the residents for their input during this process. The Facts From the RAC emails showed how interested and observant many of you are.

The Transition Committee continues to work on all issues pertaining to transition and turnover. All the preparation will be there for our new Board to act upon when the time comes. Use the RAC email account, [email protected] to communicate any issues or concerns. Remember to note your topic “Transition” in the subject field.

On behalf of the Transition Committee, we wish all our residents and their families a happy holiday season and a happy and healthy new year.

Thank you,David Mandell, Transition Committee Chaiman

Facts from the RACThe Resident Advisory Council (RAC) wishes everyone a happy and

healthy holiday season. We also wish for another great New Year filled with health and happiness for all of our residents and their families.

We continue to work hard for the residents of Heritage Hills in making this a Community Of Excellence. This past year we were instrumental in helping accomplish many projects, along with intervening on behalf of our residents for many of the their concerns. Remember it takes team work and working together with Icon Management, our HOA Board and DTE we have made tremendous strides. We will continue to do even more for the new year and make 2018 even better.

Once again, use the RAC email account at [email protected] to communicate any issues and concerns you might have. Please remember, the first step in following up on any issues that you might have is our Management office. Please see Donna, our Property Manager, as the first contact person.

Thank you, Your Resident Advisory Council (RAC)

Homeopathic Study Group

Due to the busy-ness of the holidays at the end of December, we will meet the first and second Tuesdays, rather than our usual first and third Tuesdays. In January, we will return to the first and third Tuesday schedule.

In November, we began Part 2 - Body Systems in, Homeopathic Remedies by Asa Hershoff. This section of the text is helping us understand the highly specialized functions of the organs and tissues in the body, as well as the relationship of the various Homeopathic medicines to these systems.

Throughout Part 2 - Body Systems, the emphasis will be on etiology (origin, cause) and affinity (relationship). We will learn how etiology and affinity help us to sort through the symptoms the body expresses in order to choose the correct Homeopathic medicine needed. We are working to cover 2 to 4 body systems per meeting, via an explanation of how the system works, common conditions of a “mistuned” system and Homeopathy’s role in returning the body to its healthy state.

As a result of our study of the Cell Salts in September, the study group has decided to add a second text to our study. We will reference Vinton McCabe’s The Healing Echo as we talk about the symptoms that guide us to the best remedy choice, giving us a chance to explore both Homeopathic and Cell Salt options. We will begin Part 3, the A to Z Prescriber section in the Hershoff book, in January. The Healing Echo is available from Amazon.com for $18.95.

Our main text, Homeopathic Remedies by Asa Hershoff, is available from Amazon.com for $13.62. It is helpful to have your own copy so you can read in preparation for our monthly study group meetings, as well as allow you take notes and/or highlight as you wish. The book is a well-organized introduction to Homeopathy AND it is a helpful reference for good health and self-care at home.

New members are always welcome to our study group. You may have heard of Homeopathy but feel don’t know much about it. Come learn with others who are interested in an approach to healing and lasting health that works with your body.

Heritage Hills GolfDrum roll please! Thanks to the efforts of Barry Morlachetta, we

can finally announce that Heritage Hills has a golf group!! Play started the second week of November beginning on November 7 at Green Valley Golf Course and on November 9 at Legends Golf Club. Going forward the golfers have selected four courses in the area to play; Green Valley, Legends, Kings Ridge and Stoneybrook. Other courses may be added as our club expands.

Currently, we are playing on Tuesdays and Thursdays, except when playing Kings Ridge when we will need to play on Fridays.

Sign-up sheets are in the Heritage Hills Clubhouse by the clip-boards. If you think you’d like to play a little golf and get to know some of your neighbors please stop by and sign up to play. I mean, what is more fun than playing a round of golf and then meeting up with friends and neighbors to share a beverage and re-hash all the “interesting” shots of the day?

And ladies, this is not just for the guys! Throw on those cute little outfits and sign-up to play! We may not hit as far as the guys sometimes, but we can always find our ball. Am I right?

There are lots of other ideas and plans for a fun time playing more golf. Make plans to join us!! For more information, please call Barry Morlachetta at

304-654-8485. See you on the course!!

There will not be aResident Orientation in December. The next Resident Orientation seminar will be on January 15, 2018.

Happy Holidays & see you in the New Year 2018.

Heritage Hills Library

Our library - isn’t it grand! Take a look at the photos. It’s rare to have any empty space so your librarians, Debbie Running, Helen Wunderlich and Gail Steinberg are constantly working moving books around on the shelves.

As space is at a premium, please do not donate any books prior to 2000. If you would like to donate books, Cooper Memorial Library will gladly take them and sell them at their book sales. This helps us support our local library. Any funds from the sale, go back to the library. This is a win-win for all of us.

You will also note that our magazine rack is stocked with current issues. There is no room any longer for older issues. Cooper Memorial Library will not take them either, sorry to say. Kindly recycle them on Tuesday.

We truly appreciate all of your donations but have space constraints. All donations should be placed in the baskets by the door for sorting. If you take a look around, you will note that our collection is almost 100% fiction and sorted much like your local library by author.

Remember to say hi to our resident volunteers. Thank you.

Feel free to contact me at: Gail [email protected] 352-708-4747

special. Residents turned out en masse to sample a wide range of wines made by their community neighbors.

They tasted a young wine and voted on how sweet it should be finished. Remarkably good homemade wines and generous pours made for happy people and a memorable evening.

As the year comes to an end, we often look back fondly as we remember the year’s events. This year at Healthy Hints meetings we have talked about: • Planning for a healthy new year • Heart health • Ways your brain tricks you into eating more • Inflammation and the anti-inflammatory diet • Kidney health • Recipe makeovers and healthy ingredient substitutions when cooking • Disaster preparedness • Sick days and hospital stays • So many diets… so little time • Holiday resilience

What do you remember or what did you miss? Have you heard the latest research related to these topics? What questions do you still have? What questions would you like to have answered in the new year?

Come to Healthy Hints on December 12 at 11:30 AM in the Toscana Ballroom to refresh your memory and

EXTENDED CARE … WHAT’S YOUR STRATEGY?You may think you’ll never need extended care. But what would happen if you did—and didn’t have a plan to pay for it? Extended care may affect your family members:

• Emotionally, as they juggle time between you and their families.

• Physically, especially if they’re your caregivers.• Financially, by potentially depleting your savings and

their inheritance.A strategy for your care could be the best gift you’ve ever given your family. Contact me today to learn more.

Hand ChimesOne of the longest running club activities here in Heritage

Hills is the musical entity known as the Charming Chimes. We play a relatively new instrument (developed around 1982) that looks much like a large tuning fork and played in the manner of the handbells. Not all handbell music is suitable for hand-held chimes, but the ranges are exactly the same making much of the handbell literature applicable with a few changes in technique.

We are fortunate that we have a fantastic range of Malmark Choirchimes® which span five octaves on the piano keyboard. That translates to 61 chromatic notes, and there is much music to be played in this range. The largest chime that we have is approximately four feet in length and the smallest about six inches. The larger chimes sometimes necessitate the use of both hands to produce the sound.

Each person plays an average of about 3 or 4 chimes. So to play all five octaves we would incorporate up to 20 players. Presently we have sixteen chimers, but not everyone is usually at the same practice session. It would be fun to have the largest sound available at every practice, and with that, I would like to have four or five or more members. It is essential that you read music.

Besides playing as a team on this instrument, we are a social group who appreciates each person’s input in playing together. We play beautiful music which is intricate at times, but it is always pleasing to the ear.

The lower, larger chimes usually don’t play in fast succession, but the middle chimes do. The very smallest chimes usually are added to the melody for brilliance. When all is played at the same time, the music is glorious and full, but softer than handbells. Handbells are cast from bronze, and chimes are machined from aluminum. There’s a big difference in the volume of sound. Chimes are soft in decibel level - easy on one’s ears.

I know that there are musicians in HH that probably aren’t involved in other HH activities of music. How about coming to a rehearsal in the Aerobics Room on Wednesday evenings from 6 PM to 7:30 PM to see and hear what we are about? Residents and guests are always welcome.

For more information, contact David Bushnellat 352-243-3312 or [email protected].

Heritage HillsPlayers

“All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players; They have their exits and their entrances…” (William Shakespeare: “As You Like It”)

Is it time for you to enter the stage? The Heritage Hills Players think so! Beginning January 22, the Heritage Hills Players will be sponsoring 4 workshops on acting for the stage to bring out your inner Brando or Streep. These four, two-hour sessions delivered over four consecutive weeks in January and February will be taught by seasoned professionals. They will provide you with all the skills and confidence you need to act on stage. Sessions will be conducted on the stage in the ballroom and are designed to be fun, insightful and encouraging. Each session will focus on a specific skill; they are: Improvisation -- Stage Acting 101 -- Stage Movement -- Delivering Monologues.

Sessions are $15 each or $50 if you purchase the complete program of all 4 sessions (recommended). Tickets will go on sale the last of December, so please be on the lookout for emails and HH Facebook postings for updates. These will include more information on what you will learn in each class and bios of the instructors. Class size will be limited to ensure each participant gets lots of practice and encouraging feedback. Indulge your New Year’s Resolution to try new things!

I ❤️NY Group

October 4, the I ❤️NY Group went to the Orlando Shakespeare Theater and enjoyed a first class production of Man of LaMancha. The play was thoroughly enjoyed by all (about 55 of us) and the price couldn’t be beat for a matinee performance of $30 per person. After the play, we headed over to Kim Wu, a really good Chinese restaurant that was able to handle our large group. Many thanks to Bunnie Friedman for handling this function. It was a job well done! Our November event will be Thursday, November 9 for Seussical the Musical at East Ridge High School. Tickets are $10 and our group will be able to be seated together. What a bargain and excellent local talent and we get to support our Clermont kids. Check emails for further information.

Billiard GroupCalling all billiards/pool players. A new group is forming on

Wednesdays at 6 PM. Come one - come all. Just show up and enjoy our clubhouse pool tables for some friendly & competitive games of pool.

For information you can contact eitherRoger Steinberg @ 352-708-4747 orBob Lederhandler @ 949-322-7147

I LoveNew York

November 9, the I Love NY Group went to a late brunch at the Golden Corral. After which, we enjoyed a production of Seussical the Musical at East Ridge High School. The production by the East Ridge High School Drama Boosters was first rate. They did an amazing job under the guidance of their producer, Vince Santos, who is a Heritage Hills resident and their director, Jason Misner. Those fortunate enough to go to the high school were amazed by acting, sets and designs, all of which were first rate. We look forward to enjoying more shows at East Ridge High School. We’re looking forward to YOU joining us for our next event.

Our December event will be December 16 for our Holiday Party in the clubhouse from 12-3:30 PM. We will bring appetizers or desserts and I’ll have a sign up list at the clubhouse. All are welcome. Come join us for meeting and greeting with neighbors and friends. You do not need to be from New York. You do need to be a resident or friend of a Heritage Hill resident.

There is a meeting of the I Love NY Group on December 23 at 10:30 AM. It will be brief to discuss future events for the club in 2018. If there were any particular functions that you would like to do again such as Wonderworks or Outta Control Comedy Club, please let me know. Comments or suggestions, please contact me:
