News From The Classroms Room 24, Ms. Dindayal: Our trip to the Apple Store
On Tuesday November, 20, 2018 we went on a trip to the Apple store. We learned so many different things. For example we learned how to use iMovie. iMovie is an app where you can make a movie. At the Apple store we got a USB drive that had our iMovie that we made. Our iMovies are about healthy lifestyles. Now we will talk more about our experience at the Apple store.
First we talked about
our favorite movies so
we could get inspired by
them. Then one of the
workers at the Apple
store showed us an example on how to make an iMovie. First you have
to get on the app then you could record yourself or your voice over a
picture you selected. At the store we used an iPad to make an iMovie. We worked in groups of three. At the end of our trip we were given a USB drive so we can
watch our iMovie at home. We were also given an apple magnet. The three workers Paul, Craig and Ralph made a little graduation ceremony were they called our names from attendance order to give us Apple store certificate. That's our experience at the Apple store. We wish we could go again we learned many things that are very useful. Sincerely, Leyla and Sabah.
Room 24, Ms. Dindayal: Field Study Center, By Bushra and Akhil
The Grade 5’s in Ms.Dindayal class, went on a trip to the Field Study Center. There they experienced many animals and different species. Some animals we saw were foxes, deer, turtles, scorpion and more. There were a lot of taxidermies (Originless animals).
They had a lot of fun. They did a scavenger hunt,
exploring and even archery. In the scavenger hunt,
the grade 5’s were given a map to find boxes which had
treasures items from the native times. They had to split up in
multiple groups and find specific boxes due to their maps. In
Exploring they had to roam around the center to know the
place a bit more. Finally, in Archery they were 3 targets to hit.
The assistants gave us a bow and arrow to practice the most
famous sport and how to handle the bow and arrow. Their
favourite part of the trip was Archery and scavenger hunt.
Overall, they got to learn about the natives and some of the
crops they grew.
Room 24, Ms. Dindayal Dwayne Morgan
On Tuesday December 4th all the Grade 5s went to the staff room to learn from Dwayne Morgan.
Dwayne Morgan has been a spoken word artist since 1993. He taught us how to write as a spoken word
artist. First he told us to pick a number between 1-3. Then when everyone choose a number he told us
what each number means. Those who chose Number 1 had to write about “If the world paused for 3
minutes, what would you say to the World.” Number 2 had to write a love letter to themselves. Number
3 had to write about what advice they would give to a Grade 2 student. He gave us some advice on how
to be brilliant. He said “If anyone is talking to you when you are working, say “Stop you are interrupting
my brilliance.” When we were finished he said “If you can do this within 16 minutes, imagine what you
could do if you gave yourself an hour or a day or even a week.

Room 24, Ms. Dindayal, Scientist in Our School
We had scientist in our class on November 27th.
We were learning about different chemicals and
properties of liquid, gas and solid. We mixed some
chemicals together to understand that water can
change colour. We learned that cw means cabbage
water.
cw+w = blue water
We have to follow some steps:-
1- wear goggle
2- work in a group
3-do not touch a any chemicals with your hand.
4- you should put the perfect amount of chemicals. We mixed water with different solids like salt, chia seeds, insta-snow, and cornstarch. We made snow. It was my favourite. By Ali.Z and Khalid News from Room 3 - Ms. Mangan/Ms. Edwards On Wednesday, November 28, Scientist Cathy visited the children in
Room 3. The students had the wonderful opportunity to participate
in "Friends of the Earth" workshop. The children were excited and
engaged as they rotated through five different stations in the
classroom. They
observed and learned
about worms, planted a
sunflower seed in a cup,
made bird feeders,
learned about reusable
lunch containers, and
learned how to conserve
water at home. Thank
you to all the parents who
volunteered that afternoon and helped to make it a fun and
educational experience for everyone.
Rm 9, Ms. Vokrri
On Wednesday, December 5th the kindergarten students of Rm 9 engaged in creating a wonderful winter holiday gift for their families. They made a lovely centre piece candle holder to put on the dinner table to enjoy over the winter holidays. Lots of love and care was taken to create this beautiful gift. Rm 9 wishes to thank Ms. Ayan Ahmed for her time, guidance, and thoughtfulness for assisting us in putting together this special gift. Mrs. Vokrri, Ms. Abboud, and the learners of Rm 9 wish the Kingsview Village Community a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable holiday!
Room 7, From Ms. Srivastava and Ms. Virk This month in our Grade 4 Math Club we have been learning about
Subtraction. Using Mental Math, diagrams, Mathletics, and number lines
students are splitting numbers to subtract. In January we are excited
begin learning about Multiplication!
Also…..Room 7 during Guided Writing, Grade 4 HSP students have been
working on how to explain something first orally, and then in your
writing. Using the writing process to produce edited work, here is one
example about how to play Manhunt.
How to Play Manhunt, By Lucky Abdulla
Manhunt is a game that people can play at recess or any time. Everyone can play Manhunt. One person is it and four people or more have to run. The person that is it has to count to ten and then they have to look for the persons that are running from them. If a person gets caught they join the person that is it. The last person that is not it wins. If the bell rings they are the winner! But if the last person gets it they lost and the person that was it first wins the game!
These are the reasons we all like Manhunt:
1. Anyone can play it. 2. It is good exercise. 3. It is fun. 4. It is easy to learn. 5. Lots of people can play it.
Also…….In Room 7, Grade 4 HSP students also enjoyed sharing their thoughts on Christmas and the upcoming holiday season. The message was that in Canada we can all celebrate and share in each other's cultures.
What Does Christmas Mean to Me?, By Ayan Mohamed
Christmas means to me that people have Christmas trees at their house. They play with their family with
the snow and watch movies with their family. Muslim people can do this too. They still celebrate Eid and
Ramadan. In Canada it is okay to like Christmas. You can still have your own religion. We are lucky here.
From the Green Team
Last month the Green Team told you about becoming Junior Water Walkers and how we are helping to
take care of the Great Lakes by looking after Wincott Park which is across Dixon Road from our school.
Wincott Wetland, which is a beautiful pond (with ducks!)
and the Humber Creek pass through the park, on their way
to the Humber River, to Lake
Ontario,to the St. Lawrence
River and then to the Atlantic
Ocean! We told you that we
were planning to take care of
the park and the creek and the
pond by cleaning up garbage.
A few weeks ago we did just that. We picked up three huge bags full of
garbage. It was really sad to see so much garbage on the ground, but it was
even more upsetting to discover that most of the garbage should have been
recycled. When we sorted out the garbage we found many plastic bags and bottles, lots of styrofoam
packaging, tin cans, cardboard, and glass bottles. All of
these things should have been put in the recycling
container which was only a few feet away from where
we were. We picked up a lot of garbage too - things like
food packaging and coffee cups, which should have
been put in the garbage container right beside the
recycling container. We even found a tire!!
Ms. Kenn spoke to a number of parents who
remembered how much they enjoyed visiting the park and feeding the ducks when their children were
small, and were surprised to hear how much garbage we had collected. We are going to try hard to keep
the park and the creek clean so that we and other people from our community can enjoy visiting this
beautiful natural area again. We will also be making it a nicer place for animals to live, and at the same
time we will be preventing garbage from ending up in our rivers and lakes and oceans, and hurting the
animals who live there.
Let it Snow!
The snow is starting to fall….
Please remember to dress warmly. Students are
reminded to bring hats, mitts, boots, snow-pants
and jackets to school each and every day!
On behalf of our Kingsview Village staff….
We wish you the
HAPPIEST OF HOLIDAYS!!
Merry Christmas and Happy New
Year!
