The Kahriz Research and Information Center of the International
Organization for Migration is in operation
On 9 December 2019, the Kahriz Research and Information Center established by
International Organization for Migration and the Azerbaijan State Agricultural University
within the KOICA-funded project ‘Integrated Rural Development for IDP Communities in
Azerbaijan through Revitalization of Kahriz Water Supply System’ has been opened. The
Center is the unique specialized place for collecting, researching and disseminating the
information, knowledge and experiences on kahriz systems.

IOM Azerbaijan organized international conference on preventing violent
extremism
On 10 December 2019, the United Nations Migration Agency - The International
Organization for Migration (IOM) in Azerbaijan jointly with the State Committee on
Religious Associations of the Republic of Azerbaijan organized an international
conference, titled "Preventing violent extremism: Building resilience in partnership."

On 4 December 2019, Vladimir Gjorgjiev, IOM Azerbaijan Chief of Mission
participated to the UNCT Azerbaijan courtesy meeting with Mr. Haulin Jao,
Secretary General of the International Telecommunication Union. Sharing his
impressions of the official meetings and Bakutel exhibitions held in Azerbaijan,
Mr. Jao also discussed the possibilities of cooperation with UN agencies in
Azerbaijan.

On 24 December 2019, Mr. Vladimir Gjorgjiev, the Chief of IOM Mission to
Azerbaijan met with Mr. Seyfulla Azimov, the National Coordinator for Combating
Trafficking in Human Beings, Deputy Minister of Internal affairs, the police major-
general.

SHARE ON:
The objective of the research has been to identify existing socioeconomic
vulnerabilities and validate possible links between vulnerabilities and potential for
radicalization in local communities, drawing on case studies of three selected
regions of Azerbaijan and analysis of international experience. This objective was
pursued by combining three types of analysis, which were complementary,
helping define vulnerability factors, establish relationships between them and
identify needs for remedial actions.

Azerbaijan visited Ganja
The head of the International Organization for Migration in Azerbaijan Mr. Vladimir
Gjorgjiev and the Ambassador of the Netherlands (Embassy of the Netherlands in
Azerbaijan) in the Azerbaijan Mr. Onno Kerves and Deputy Head of Mission Ms Zumreta
Jahic Ms Zumreta Jahic (Yahich) met with Niyazi Bayramov, head of the Executive Power
of Ganja. During the visit, the guests met with some of the beneficiaries – victims of
trafficking who have already received equipment for their businesses within the project
implemented by the IOM with the financial support of the Netherlands Embassy
“Addressing the Needs of Victims of Trafficking in Azerbaijan Through Provision of Direct
Assistance and Shelter Facilities Upgrade".

A meeting with members of the Public Council under the State Migration
Service was held at the IOM Baku Office
On 27 December 2019, during a meeting with members of the Public Council Vladimir Gorgjiev
expressed confidence that this first meeting would give the opportunity to exchange views and
lay the foundation for future fruitful cooperation.

Azerbaijan.

shelter of Azerbaijan Children Union and met with Mrs. Kemale Aghazade, head of
the Union and the staff of the shelter.
The IOM Azerbaijan has so far renovated several shelters for victims of human
trafficking, victims of human trafficking and domestic violence in the capital and
regions, including this shelter.
