December 27, 2015 ~ Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph

THE HOLY FAMILY… I was reflecting upon how wonderful it would be if every one of our families could be called a “holy family” and I ask why not? Holiness comes from having a relationship with God. Jesus, Mary and Joseph had a unique relationship of holiness. Mary and Jesus had the privilege of having God make his home with them. Jesus God made man - a God who humbled himself to be born into human life as we all are and experience all the facets of growing up into manhood. Today think of all the members of your family who have passed on and think about what they did to help form you into you became. Give Thanks for them. Think of your family members who are living today and say a pray for them. Ask God to bless each of them with gifts that might need. Appreciate the gifts that you give to each other and how each of you help form your family into what you are today. It can happen in families when each member truly follows the way of Jesus. It happens as you come together in good times and in bad to support each other. Holiness can happen in community. Jesus, Mary and Joseph lead the way for us. They are our ancestors in faith. Today we give thanks for them in our lives and ask them to help our families to be holy. For when we are holy our holiness can also effect others. Our church community becomes stronger when our families reflect the holiness of God to one another. May the Lord bless our families today with many graces and help us always seek to do the will of God in all that we do in imitation of Jesus, Mary and Joseph and we will truly live in a holy family…Fr Joe WHY WE ARE CATHOLIC We are Catholic because we believe: The name Jesus means “God saves.” The child born of the Virgin Mary is called Jesus, “for he will save his people from their sins”. The title “Christ” means “Anointed One” (Messiah). Jesus is the Christ, for “God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power”. He was the one “who is to come”, the object of “the hope of Israel”. The title “Son of God” signifies the unique and eternal relationship of Jesus Christ to God his Father: he is the only Son of the Father; he is God himself. To be a Christian, one must believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. The title “Lord” indicates divine sovereignty. To confess or invoke Jesus as Lord is to believe in his divinity. The Catechism of the Catholic Church paragraphs 452-455 ADORATION AND BENEDICTION… Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will be held Monday, January 11th at OLM 7 – 8 p.m. The theme will be “Seeing the Face of Jesus in others”.

FOURTH PILLAR OF STEWARDSHIP: Last of 4 articles The fourth pillar is Service: “Each one, as a good manager of God’s different gifts, must use for the good of others the special gifts they received” – St Paul. Through prayer find the way God is asking you to use your gifts to serve others, members of your own family or members of the diverse human family throughout the world. We are all one in God’s love. So practice the four pillars of Stewardship: Hospitality, Prayer, Formation and Service … you will reap the rewards of what you sow in God’s name. SERVING CHRIST IN OTHERS… Holy families live in the spirit of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Help make all families able to sustain themselves. So many families just need a little extra support. Give to Catholic Charities through our Bishop’s Annual Appeal. www.2015appeal.org.

Altar Server Name________________________________________ Age______________Grade_______________________ Phone _______________________________________ e-mail________________________________________ Hello Everyone! My name is Michael C. Balcon. I am a parishioner at Our Lady of the Mountain for over 18 years. I am a third year Physical Therapy student at the University of Scranton. This coming January, from the 8th to the 17th, my classmates and I will be traveling to Colonia el Zapote in Guatemala. We will be providing free physical therapy and other medical services to the poor and underprivileged adults and children in this town. I am appealing to you for donations that will help cover the air fare cost and living expenses for this medical mission. Donations will also help cover in-country transportation at the various locations that we will be providing services to. The University of Scranton’s Mission is to be “Men and Women For Others.” My goal is to truly follow this mission and to give back to the community, especially the less fortunate. If you have any donations please make them out to Our Lady of the Mountain regarding the Guatemala Service Trip. All donations will go toward the total cost of the trip, which is done through Hearts in Motion. In doing so, you will help fund a lifetime experience and give back to an underprivileged community. Any amount is greatly appreciated! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me! For more information regarding this mission please visit the Hearts in Motion Website at www.heartsinmotion.org Thank you all so much for your much needed support! Sincerely, Michael Balcon [email protected]
