The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph - December 29, 2019

For many of us, we can’t get enough of Christmas! We want the world to stop and listen and to enjoy the Days of

Christ’s coming to earth. His Life and His Light fills us with joy and

peace and hope and we pray that our world will put on his life by our

words and deeds. We want the whole world to stop and listen and truly

enjoy the Coming of the Lord!

In churches all over the world, we are still singing Christmas carols.

Poinsettias and trees with lights decorate our sanctuaries and our wor-

ship spaces! Yet, the Gospel story today from St. Matthew has moved on

FROM these wonderful infancy narratives to the story of HOW Joseph

uproots his family to flee to Egypt to keep his son safe. It would seem that

the “glow” of Silent Night, Holy Night has dissolved into the shadows.

We still want Christmas.

But today’s Gospel story gives us a glimpse of the Savior’s life – one that

will be filled with hope and desire AS it is with challenge! He came to

save us, and Joseph, in a dream, takes Mary and the Child to safety from

the King who means to destroy him. Family life, then, as it is now, is of-

ten filled with tension and unexpected turns. And in this way, the Holy

Family is a role model of faith in the face of familial troubles. No parents

raising children – the Holy Family included – are free from the struggle

and pain. But all parents who raise their children in faith and trust in the Lord have built a home with a strong founda-

tion.

The Old Testament reading today extols children honoring, revering and caring for their father and mother. St.

Paul also writes on the importance of children obeying their parents AS he also offers some advice to husbands and wives.

And as Joseph paid attention to the signs around him acted in faith to save his family. So, let’s celebrate and pray for us,

our primary families and our secondary families of faith and trust to always inspire us to live strong and joyful lives in the

Lord!

A Message of Hope for Those Who Have Experienced Loss

I see countless Christmas trees around the world below, with tiny lights, like heavenly stars, reflecting in

the snow. The sight is so spectacular; please wipe away that tear, for I am spending Christmas with Jesus this

year.

I hear the many Christmas songs people hold so dear, but the sounds of music can’t compare with the

Christmas choir up here. I have no words to tell you, the joy their voices bring, for it is beyond description, to

hear the angels sing.

I know how much you miss me. I see the pain inside your heart, but I am not so far away; we really

aren’t apart. So be happy for me, dear ones. You know I hold you dear, and be glad I’m spending Christmas

with Jesus this year.

I send you each a special gift, from my heavenly home above. I send you each a memory of my undying

love. After all “Love” is the gift, more precious than pure gold. It was always most important in the stories Je-

sus told.

Please love and keep each other, as my Father said to do, for I cannot count the blessing or love he has

“Trust and Believe”

Trust God. Feel the security of divine provi-

dence. Trust Him. He knows. He will pro-

vide. Let Him test and trust our faith in

Him. Wait on Him. Trust and believe.

Family Perspective

Raising a family is a roller coaster of ups and downs. It

was no different for Mary and Joseph. The visit of the

Magi must have been a thrill for these young, proud

parents. But that was followed by news that Herod was

looking for their son, to kill him. Every family is called

to be a holy family, to hear and follow the Lord, not

only on the good days, but also in the most challenging

times.

May they rest in eternal peace.

Music Ministry & Liturgy Notes

By Angela Kovic

Director of Music and Liturgy

KEEP THE PARTY GOING

Wow, what a beautiful Christmas week it has been! I

want to thank everybody in our music ministry who

worked so hard to make this year’s Christmas such a

beautiful celebration! This includes the Children’s

Christmas Choir, our Traditional Choir, all cantors,

instrumentalists, and the Christmas Crew, who was

at all five masses. Thank you so much; we are suc-

cessful because of your dedication and hard work!

Even though Christmas Day is over, that doesn’t

mean that it’s time to put away the tree and other

decorations! The Christmas season lasts all the way

until the 12th of January this year, so we still have a

lot of love and happiness to pass along for our new-

born King! This weekend is the celebration of the

Holy Family, of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, who are

the model of a healthy Christian family. Remember

that even when you may have hiccups in the family

peace, that you are still bound by love and respect.

Be kind to one another, and patient throughout eve-

rything!

Please be aware that there is NO Traditional Choir

rehearsal this week; we all deserve a well-earned

break!

Choir Rehearsal Schedules: Traditional Choir meets

to rehearse on Tuesday evenings at 7.30pm. If you

are interested in participating in choir, cantoring, or

playing an instrument during mass, please call or see

Mrs. Angela Kovic after mass up in the loft. The Mu-

sic Ministry office number is 440.243.3877 ext 27,

and the email is [email protected].
