MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear St. Apollinaris Catholic School Families,
Advent is the period of four Sundays and weeks before Christmas. Advent means 'Coming' in Latin. This is the coming of Jesus into the world. Christians use the four Sundays and weeks of Advent to prepare and remember the real meaning of Christmas. I encourage you to talk to your children about your own religious experience. You can tell this beautiful story to your children in so many ways. You can let them tell you what it means to them. Through all this conversation, the message will come through. During these weeks of Advent, you want to look forward to celebrating His coming to live our life and to set us free - free from our sins and free from death itself. An idea is to create a Nativity "place" in your home. Before we put a nativity scene up, you can let it be an empty space for a while. You can prepare for setting it up, by putting things in that place which represent the longing. Perhaps that place can begin with a basket. Children can place notes in the basket that express what they hope for, for each member in the family, for their friends, for people in
2 Shamrock Newsletter the world. They can write special prayers for loved ones who are sick. You can keep telling the children that it is into this special place of our longing and faith that Jesus comes. Then, when you set up the Nativity scene in that place, it can become a special place for the children. The Christmas Pageant - For those who are new – once a year our students share their gifts to the school community by presenting the story of Jesus. Grades TK – 3 perform songs, while grades 4 & 5 and 6 & 7 are our main choir. The 8th graders act out the story of the first Christmas and read the Gospel according to Luke. What do you need to know:
1) It is December 17, at 7pm
2) It is a mandatory event which is reflected in the students religion and music grades.
3) Students and attendees should dress up for the event, keeping in mind the basic school non uniform dress requirements for the students.
4) An adult must accompany a student. Please do not drop off your student. This is a wonderful event, that you will want to see.
5) Students grade TK – 5 must be signed into the classroom by an adult, no later than 6:45pm. When the program is over allow the teachers to take the TK – 5 students back to the classrooms to be signed out. 8th grade students should arrive at 6:30pm in the Church.
6) The hour long program is a blessing, a gift to you.
7) At the end of the program, please remain in the Church to assist in the disassembling of the risers.
8) After the risers and chairs have been put away and children may be collected safely from their classrooms or Church, and this begins Christmas vacation.
9) We resume school January 5, 2016. The office is closed during Christmas vacation.
God’s Blessings, Connie Howard

Yearbook Photos Needed!
How do you get your pictures in the yearbook? Submit your favorite
photos now!
Please provide your candid photos and pictures from school activities
from this current school year. Students in the Yearbook Club are
learning how to work with images and edit pictures. Our goal is to have
several good photos of EACH student to be included in the yearbook.
We also need images of faculty and staff. The more images we have to work with, the better the end
results will be!
We look for group or individual shots showing students engaged in school activities, group interaction,
expressive/ smiling faces, bright colors, familiar school campus/grounds, close ups, as well as seasonal
themes. We aim to emphasize inclusiveness as a theme in our yearbook, as we strive to represent the
best qualities of student life at St. A's.
Thanks to all who have sent in images already. Each image is reviewed before uploading to the
yearbook website. We are aiming for at least 1000 photos to be submitted school-wide, so please help
us out! We are just getting started. All photos of events from August-November should be
submitted before Christmas break.
It's EASY to submit photos! Here's the preferred method:
1. First, save digital images as JPEG files/at least 300dpi. If dpi is less than 300, images are blurry
and cannot be used.
2. Save to a CD or thumb drive labeled with your name and “2016 Yearbook” and indicates what the
images represent: Label by topics, such as special mass/church event, Walkathon, Halloween,
Kindergarten classroom, a specific sport, etc.
3. Drop off CDs and thumb drives in the office. All CDs and thumbdrives will be returned once
images are uploaded to our yearbook website.
All photos submitted will be considered by Yearbook staff for publication in the official 2016 St. A's
yearbook.
