STEWARDSHIP / CORRESPONSABILIDAD
Gratitude in Action: Our Way of Life / Gratitud en Acción: Nuestra forma de Vida
Every family, no matter how closely knit they may be or
how strongly connected they are with one another, how
well they communicate, or how much they love and
respect each other, has challenges. The Holy Family of
Jesus, Mary and Joseph was no exception. Their early
challenges were difficult and threatening, just as those we
sometimes encounter. They could not be avoided; they had
to be addressed.
For us, the stronger our bond and deeper our respect, we
usually tend to take greater care in what we say and how
we say it when attempting to reconcile differences. We
may be hurt by something that has been said or taken
place, and while we may seek an apology or reason for
what happened, we do not wish to make the situation
worse by saying or doing the “wrong” thing.
Sometimes, however, the closer our relationship, when
something occurs to cause hurt, misunderstanding or
anger, we lash out at the other believing he or she will
understand and “let it go”. That “letting go” doesn’t
always happen. The situation worsens.
In our work environments, social cliques, small
neighborhoods, and even our parish families, the same can
occur. Naturally, not everyone thinks alike, has the same
behavioral patterns or expresses herself or himself in a like
manner. So, we hope our bonds of community and
commitments for loving, peace-filled relationships will
evoke understanding and respect of one another, even
tolerance at times.
Sometimes, no matter how much we strive for true
connectedness and solidarity, it does not happen. Truth
and justice do not always “meet and kiss”, support and
respect are viewed through eyes differently, and humility
of self and love of neighbor can be difficult to embrace.
“The Gospel of St. Luke tells us that, in the family of
Nazareth, Jesus ‘grew and became strong, filled with
wisdom; and the favor of God was upon him’ (Luke 2:40).
Our Lady does just this for us, she helps us to grow as
human beings and in the faith, to be strong and never to
fall into the temptation of being human beings and
Christians in a superficial way, but to live responsibly, to
strive ever higher.”1

Pastoral Assistant and Community Outreach
No
siempre sucede. La situación empeora.
En nuestros entornos de trabajo, camarillas sociales,
vecindarios pequeños e incluso nuestras familias
parroquiales, puede ocurrir lo mismo. Naturalmente, no
conexión y solidaridad, no sucede.

Pastor’s Message by Father Oscar Martin Picos
The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph / La Sagrada Familia: Jesús, María y José
Christmas is a family feast. That is why the
Church offers us this Gospel, which is an
invitation to reflect on our own families.
For us Catholics, the family is the basis and
structure of society. It is within the family that
we begin to be a person, to discover what life
truly is, and to understand the profound value of faith.
In the circle of our extended families, we may have
relatives and friends who know little or nothing of the
Lord. In our families, our neighborhoods and our work
environments, there will always be people who have not
been touched by the Lord, but who are closer than they
think and just need the warmth of God's love to experience
and embrace their faith.
I confess that this sometimes confounds me. I pray so
often for others; do I put the same evangelical energy into
speaking with God about my own family? Am I
embarrassed to ask my cousins if they know that Christ
loves them, or am I afraid they are not going to take me
seriously if I do? It is consoling to know that when they
need God, they can rely on the familiar closeness that I
offer them.
How do we relate to those who do not believe in the Lord?
We relate to them with the same love that the Lord has for
us. To be a Christian is to have a heart so big that it loves
equally, without reproach or spiritual blackmail, both the
one who knows God and the one who does not know Him.
The Holy Family is a model of inspiration for all families.
The example of the Holy Family is a profound invitation
to reflect on and deepen our relationships with God and
with others.
tantas veces he predicado para los demás no sé si he
Dios a mi familia.

AMAZING – a good word to describe our Parish’s
Cub Scouts’ efforts at collecting food for our Christmas
food baskets and Our Mother’s Food Pantry.
The scouts pictured here gathered over 1600 cans, bags,
jars and boxes of food. Six dens participated involving
28 scouts from 28 families. The scouts range in age
from kindergarten through fourth grade. The Webelos
den collected the most food and will be rewarded with
a pizza party.
This is the fourth year the scouts have collected food
for the holidays. The scouts, their parents and their
leaders should be proud of their efforts. Over 100
families will have a merrier Christmas holiday because
of them.
