AHIS celebrated the National Day!AHIS celebrated the National Day with the overwhelming spirit of success in national elections. Al Hekma wishes to inspire our students to cultivate the achievements of the national heritage and the feeling of belonging to this wonderful country; therefore, monthly national activities program will be introduced starting January. The aim of these activities is to share national heritage with the community, emphasize on cultural aspects of the region and promoting patriotic awareness among our students. As an educational institution, our duty is to create the future leaders in various fields. November has been a very busy month for all of us and we managed to end the first quarter with a great success. We observed the increase in the overall marks of the students and great potential for more increase in coming months. AHIS executes the latest teaching strategies and implements selective tracking system leading to the highest levels of academic excellence. Furthermore, Special Education Department in cooperation with senior administration decided to launch “Gifted and Talented” program to help many of our ambitious students share their achievements in various fields.

We, at AlHekma pride ourselves on creating a healthy atmosphere, taking into consideration various psychological

and social aspects which not only ensure the success, but create confident leaders of tomorrow.

It is my great pleasure to write to you for another edition of our newsletter! Winter break is close and AHIS will be closed from December 14 - January 04, 2015. School will open again on January 05 and the learning journey will continue again. AHIS will continue working on a self-study for accreditation by the Middle States Association. As you know AHIS is accredited by two accreditation agencies and accreditation helps schools affirm quality education for those that attend. We had a very productive parent teacher meeting where teachers and parents talked about what we care most, students progress. As every year and in this time AHIS started different external standardized exams which will provide us with reports that show students’ performance in relation to scales that describe levels of proficiency in Math, reading, writing and listening skills.

By the beginning of this academic year 2014 – 2015, Al Hekma International School offered high-powered tablets for its students that can provide all sorts of enrichment through a touch screen interface. More and more classrooms are imagining the curriculum in the context of each child having his or her own tablet. The benefits of integrated technology in classroom goes farther than expectations, students got their core subjects e-books in their tablets, which solve the problem of holding a heavy bag every day. These e-books provide extra tools to magnify, search, and links online with related games to the given topics. Linking between subjects is an important issue, students can create their documents, presentations or graphs for any subject using their tablets, access to paint for example let them map out their project in concept before getting to work. Music lessons are fun when you involve the use of a music App that allows students to try out an instrument without having to purchase it. While download some free cool science Apps, the classroom will change to an interactive environment. Using tablets in a classroom should never replace the role of the teacher, however, technology doesn’t teach – teachers do – and technology can only assist them in doing so more efficiently.

Now that our beloved students are using tablets in their daily learning at school and at home, it is important to be aware of the main conditions leading to successful technology integration.

Finally, please remember that tablets are just a tool. Efficient learning will take place when this tool is being used appropriately.

بدورها تساعد في ترسيخ بعض المفاهيم والخبرات التي اكتسبها طلبتنا

بطرق ممتعة.

اإللتزام بالقوانين الخاصة التي •تنص عليها المدرسة ومنها: عدم

أخذ مقاطع مصورة أو صور شخصية لزمالئهم أو لمرافق المدرسة دون

االستئذان المسبق.

تساعد األجهزة المحسوبة الطلبة •على تخزين المعلومات والمالحظات

العلمية والرجوع إليها عند الحاجة خاصة عند عمل التقارير واألبحاث الخاصة

بمادة العلوم.

المراقبة والمتابعة المستمرة عند •استخدام تلك األجهزة وخاصة عند

استخدام تطبيقات أو مواقع إلكترونية محددة.

األجهزة المحوسبة وسيلة فعالة •وسهلة للبحث العلمي حيث تساعد الطلبة باختيار المواقع والمعلومات

التي تفيدهم في إعداد مشاريع وتقارير علمية مميزة.

• Students must be fully in charge of the tablets. They should charge their tablets the night before coming to school.

• Students’ access to websites and applications must be monitored at all time.

• Students starting grade 1 must know their usernames and passwords and how to connect to the school Wi-Fi.

• Students may use tablets to: access their English, math and science e-books.

• Computer ethics are very important for students to be equipped

• Students can take notes on their tablets and they can use the functions provided to make science observations.

• Students may access the activity links and games provided by the same e-books publishers.

• Students may research on a topic using their tablets.

• Students can create PowerPoint presentations using their tablets.

• Students may enjoy practicing concepts newly learned by playing interactive games related to the lesson.

• Computer ethics are very important for students to be equipped with. For instance, students cannot videotape or take photos of their friends, teachers or even school property without prior permission.
