DECKFAN SILENCING

INTRODUCTION

The effect of silencers fitted to ductwork is to achieve a sound barrier between themachinery space and the surrounding deck areas.

Acoustically improved fans/ductwork on deck areas reduces the amount of high frequencynoise creating a more productive and safer working environment.

Axial fans, in general, emit large levels of high frequency noise. This can be quiteeasily eliminated using properly designed, duct silencers resulting in a significant reduction an ambient noise on working decks.

Typically the most economic solution to reduce the noise is to add an additional muffler. The work required will depend on the position of the existing silencer. If the silencer is below the fan then; leave the fan and existing acoustic device in place, add a new silencer above the fan and fit additional fan and cowl duct silencing. If the silencer is above the fanthen the work will include removing the existing silencer and fan, fitting a silencer below thefan, silencing the below fan ductwork, refitting the fan and existing acoustic device and muffling the ductwork and cowl

CIRCULAR SILENCER CONSTRUCTION SPECIFICATIONSThis part of the catalogue describes the standard sections of silencer available, the grade of steel used in manufacture, the manufacturing methods, the type of silencing material that may be used and the types of jointing Our standard range of circular silencers consist of either Circular Duct Attenuator (CDA), straight through duct with no pod and (CDAP) (podded type).Standard section lengths are:1Ø ( 1 x Internal Diameter )1 ½ Ø ( 1 ½ x Internal Diameter)2Ø (2 x Internal Diameter)Non standards lengths can be supplied for special applications please contact; Mike Dow, Bill Barclay or George Keith for information. All silencer outer bodies are manufactured using a minimum grade of steel thickness of 1mm (20 swg) pre-galvanised bright, spangle, prime quality mild steel. The inner skin is manufactured using a minimum steel thickness of 0.8mm (22 swg) pre-galvanised bright, spangle, prime quality, perforated mild steel. The podded variant aerodynamic pod nose is manufactured from a minimum of 1mm (20 swg) aluminium and the flat end of the pod is manufactured from a minimum of 1mm (20 swg) pre-galvanised bright, spangle, prime quality mild steel.. The pod supports are manufactured using a minimum steel thickness of 1.2mm (18 swg) pre-galvanised bright, spangle, prime quality mild steel. The standard manufacturing method we adopt is to generate lapped seams secured with self drilling speed screws. All the external seams are then sealed using grey mastic, ductwork sealant conforming to HVAC specification DW142. These fabrications are not certified as gas tight and they should not be used in applications with an internal pressure greater than 2000 Pa. If your application operates at higher pressures than this please contact; Mike Dow, Bill Barclay or George Keith to let us know how we can help so that we can advise on modifications to our standard designs. All silencers are packed with high density, class 0, inert, non-combustible, non-hygroscopic, vermin proof mineral wool and one layer of scrim cloth to help prevent particle migration.Silencers can be supplied with 'MELINEX' type liners rather than scrim cloth, this can be done as no extra cost when moisture is present in the airstream. The use of MELINEX liner rather than scrim greatly reduces the acoustic properties of the silencer, especially in the mid to high frequency sound ranges. If you require Melinex liners please contact; Mike Dow, Bill Barclay or George Keith to let us know how we can help. As our standard silencer construction utilises class 0 fire rated mineral wool, they are perfect for use in smoke extracts or emergency systems. Please note that if they are exposed to fire they must be replaced. As standard our duct and silencer systems join with 50mm RSA flanges. However, Cammach can use any joining method specified by the client, please contact; Mike Dow, Bill Barclay or George Keith to let us know how we can help.STANDARD CIRCULAR SILENCER SECTIONS MANUFACTURING OPTIONSManufactured from 316 grade Stainless Steel..Manufactured using fully welded construction for pressure applications.Manufactured from mild steel and hot dip galvanised for marine applications.
