DEED offers a wide range of workshops for children, young people and families in schools and Early Years settings linked to themes in global education such as Sustainable Development, Global Citizenship, Fairtrade and Children’s Rights. Workshops can also link to school based themes such as Community Cohesion, SEAL, ECM, PSHE & Citizenship, Eco-Schools and Unicef’s Rights Respecting School Award and link directly to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). Workshops can range from 1 to 2 hours per class (approx 30 pupils) and are delivered by our experienced and qualified DEED education staff. We can work with several classes over a half day or full day programme. Gold Mining (Yr2 & KS2) Find out a little of what it is like to be a gold miner in a simulation game. Learn about Fairmined Gold and explore the lives of South America’s gold miners. “Highly interactive and the Year 5 children enjoyed this aspect. Global Issues Seminars - Ideal for A/AS Level Geography, Government & Politics, Economics and General Studies students. Seminars can feature small group exercises and presentations using up-to-date case studies.

Seminar themes:

• The Geographical Impact Of Confl ict – Causes and consequences of contemporary confl ict from social, economic, political and environmental perspectives.

• Is The World Over-Populated? - Patterns of population growth and movement in the 21st Century.

• A Gender Perspective on Economic Development.

Reduce, Re-use, Recycle

Load of Rubbish! (KS2/3) All children have the right to a clean environment (Article 24 UNCRC). Join us to investigate the global impact of waste. Learn from others around the world how to reduce, re-use and recycle. Re-use your waste paper and plastic bags by making recycled footballs, toys, puppets, beaded jewellery, or musical shakers.

Multicultural Britain

I Love My Hair! (EYFS & KS1 with families) Celebrate Multicultural Britain using this excellent story along with others from DEED’s I Love My Hair! resource collection. Paint self portraits using a range of people-coloured art materials inspired by the book Two Eyes, a Nose and a Mouth. Examine skin, hair and eye colour in your class and around the UK. FF

Children of Britain – Just Like Me! (KS2) Using this excellent resource, take part in a role play featuring a mystery guest to your school. Discover similarities and differences between the lives of children living in Multicultural Britain. Walk in someone else’s shoes. Help challenge stereotypes. Make your own personality portrait.

Who are the British? (Upper KS2/KS3) What does it mean to be British? Explore our giant Multicultural Britain timeline of migration and fi nd out. Choose some role models throughout history to fi nd out more.

The Festival of Eid (KS1/2) Celebrated all over the world, the Festival of Eid is the best known date in the Islamic Calendar. What are the origins and signifi cance? Why are festivals and celebration important to everyone? Decorate & share colourful Eid biscuits! Pupils work in small groups (up to 15 children). FF
