Learning outcomes and required work: The learning outcomes enable the student to demonstrate a development in technical knowledge and skill in CAD Software Kaledo Prints, Knits and Weaves, and the ability to self-initiate research.The criteria used to assess the work include research analysis, creative development, technical skills, market awareness, design realization, self-management, presentation and evaluation through one on one and group critiques.

Project aims:To familiarize students with Computer Aided Design Software Kaledo Prints, Knits and Weaves. Encourage use of experimentation using a broad range of mixed media and techniques. Produce an imaginative and exciting range of design ideas. To develop processes and issues associated with designdevelopment. Develop a collection of a professional range of fashion textile swatches. Demonstrate market awareness. Thoroughly research a given theme. Encourage development of creative project presentation.Develop the concept of self-evaluations.

ReflectionLooking back on this Kaledo course, it has been a journey. I enjoy using Kaledo but I don’t think my prints ended up the way I originally imagined. When I choose to do the trend Creed, I was imagining my design atheistic to be darker and more mysterious. Instead, my designs are very graphic, bright and playful. I don’t think I made my mixed media more tonal, instead of graphic. I am happy with my prints now that I have put them on my croquis, but I thought maybe they would look better on children’s wear. After speaking with my professor, she assured me my designs would be good for women’s wear. Now that I see how my print swatches turned out, I would love to do it again. After making the prints and seeing them as swatches put into illustrator, I want to go back and make more! The company our class used to print our prints onto fabric was Spoonflower. Their online system was easy to work and the prints turned out exactly how I sent them in. The prints ended up really awesome in my collection even though the process was very frustrating and time consuming.

Silent Journey Sea treasures, and water itself, inspire a fresh direction for pattern and texture this season. Swirling waves and frothy foam create organic patterns. Eroded or encrusted stones contrast with the fluidity of water to develop a range of textured surface effects.

Profound Blue Many designers are exploring the seas as the next territory for development. A range of oceanic blues from deepest navy to indigo, royal blue and sea foam combine to create a contemplative focus.

Fantastic Formations Oceanic living creatures inspire exquisite embellishments this season. Patterns and surfaces also represent the sea floor with pebbled prints and encrusted jewels.

Beneath The Surface Dreams of the lost city of Atlantis and the God of the Sea, Poseidon, have lead to under-water discoveries and attempts to submerge our existence. .

Siren Song Beautiful women with fishtails, living under the sea, represent the ultimate fantasy for frothy fashion styles.

Subtrend: Aquatic WondersUnderwater worlds offer new seascapes to explore this season. Fascination with the deep encourages the use of saturated natural colors ranging from deep oceanic blue to acidic lemon. Textures take cue from sea foliage and creatures, inspiring smooth shell surfaces, tentacle textures and wave-like patterns.

Creative Research The creative research that went into the collection was based upon the Abyssopelagic Layer in the depths of the ocean. This layer is found 4,000-6,000 meters deep in the sea, never receives daylight and inhabitants invertebrates phylum: jellyfish, corals, anemones, clams, octopus, squid, and shellfish. For this collection I particularly focused on jellyfish, coral, anemone, anglerfish, squid, and starfish. Researching the unknown found in the Abyss brings a sort of mystery and fascination.
