Details of recruitment tests and Interview

India Armed Forces (Army, Navy & Air Force) 1. National Defence Academy (NDA/NA)/Naval Academy Exam. - NDA exam is conducted by UPSC twice a year. Age limit is 16½ -19 yrs, Examinations conducted as follows: -

(a) Paper 1, General Ability Test (600 Mks). The composition of paper-1- English- 50 questions, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Geography, Civics, GK -100 questions and duration 2 ½ hrs). (b) Paper 2, Maths, 300 Mks,120 questions. For every wrong answer 1/3 marks will be deducted.

2. Combined Defence Services (CDS) Examination- Paper 1 English (120 questions), 100 marks, 2 hrs, Paper 2, GK (120 questions) 100 marks, 2 hrs, Paper 3, Maths (100 questions) 100 marks, 2 hrs. 3. Indian Navy Entrance Test (INET)- INET is a mandatory written test for Direct Entry Officers or Graduate/Technical Graduate Entry. Test is of 02 hrs duration having 100 questions on English, Reasoning & Numerical Ability, General Science, Mathematical Aptitude & General Knowledge. Each part will be of 100 Marks. Negative marking of 01 mark for every wrong answer will also be applicable. After qualifying INET, candidates are called to appear in SSB Test/Interview followed by Medical tests by Military Hospitals. 4. Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT). AFCAT is a screening test conducted by Air Force at various centres for candidates aspiring to join Air Force after Graduation. After qualifying AFCAT, candidate has to appear for Air Force Selection Boards (AFSB). The AFCAT Question Paper will have 100 questions. All questions will be of three marks each. For every correct answer the candidate will get three marks and for every wrong answer one mark will be deducted under negative marking. The total time allotted for the paper is two hours. Each Question Paper will have questions from the following topics:-

(a) General Awareness – History, Sports, Geography, Environment, Civics, Basic Science, Defence, Art, Culture, Current Affairs, Politics etc.

(b) Verbal Ability in English – Comprehension, Error Detection, Sentence Completion, Synonyms, Antonyms and Testing of Vocabulary.

(c) Numerical Ability – Decimal Fraction, Simplification, Average, Profit & loss, Percentage, Ratio & Proportion and Simple interest.

(d) Reasoning and Military Aptitude Test – Verbal Skills and Spatial Ability

5. SSB/AFSB Test & Personal Interview (conducted by Army, Navy & Air Force)

(a) Screening Test-Class room activities, Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) test, Picture Perception and Discussion Test (PP & DT). (b) Psychological Tests (Class Room Activities)

(i) Thematic Apperception Test (TAT)

(d) Personal Interview is based on Personal Information Questionnaire filled by candidates after success in Screening Test. After success in Written test, SSB/AFSB test/Interview, Medical tests are conducted by Military Hospitals.

6. Military Nursing Services (MNS)- Class-1 Officer Rank)

(a) Selection Criteria: Eligible applicants will be called for an objective type Written Test of 90 minutes duration likely to be held Jan-Feb every year, covering General English, Biology, Physics, Chemistry and General Intelligence. On the basis of merit of Written Test, candidates will be called for interview during Apr-May. Final selection will be based on combined merit of Written Test & Interview, subject to medical fitness and vacancy in each College.

(b) Interview & Medical Examination: Merit listed candidates of Written Test will appear for Interview & medical examination at selected centres. Candidates declared FIT/UNFIT in medical examination will be informed about their medical status by the President of the Selection Medical Board (SMB).

7. Indian Army (JCO/HAV/Soldier)

(a) Soldier General Duty- Maths, General Science, LR, GK (100 Mks), NCC ‘C’ certificate holder exempted

(b) Soldier Tradesman- Maths, General Science, LR, GK (100 Mks), NCC ‘C’ certificate holder exempted.

8. Indian Navy (Sailors/Artificer Entry)

(a) Artificer Apprentice- Written Test comprises a objective type test paper on English, GK, Science, Maths-100 Marks. Test is conducted by Zonal/Naval Recruiting Office. After qualifying written test, candidate has to pass Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Medical Test.

(b) Senior Secondary Recruit (SSR)- (Seaman, Communication, Electrical, Medical, Logistics, Engg, Aviation branches). Tests are on same pattern as indicated at para (i) above for Artificer Apprentice. (c) Matric Entry Recruits. Logistics (Chef/Steward/Hygienist)- SSC (Matric), Written Test in Science, Maths and General Awareness, Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Medical Test.

(d) Musician– SSC, Aptitude of Music, Knowledge of at least one Musical Instrument Mandatory and Conducted Once a Year.

(e) Direct Entry (Sports)- Seaman (Ag Petty Officer).

(f) SSR (Outstanding Sportsman) Seaman, Communication, Electrical, Engineering, Medical, Log, Naval (Aviation).

(g) MR (Outstanding Sportsman)

9. Indian Air Force (Airmen Entry)

(a) Online Written Test (i) X Group Paper 1-Physics, Maths (50 Mks, 40 Min)

(ii) Y Group Paper 1-English (20 Mks, 20 Min) Paper 2- Reasoning & General Awareness (30 Mks, 25 Min)

(b) Medical Test, and Declaration of Result

(c) Physical Efficiency/Fitness Test (PFT) will be conducted for all those who qualify the written tests. All candidates are advised to be in possession of sport rig i.e. Sport Shoe, T-shirt, Trouser etc. Qualifying PFT as per the standards given below is compulsory. The PFT will consist as under:-

(i) 1.6 Km run to be completed in 7 minutes. (ii) 20 squat ups (Uthak Baithak). (iii) 10 Push ups. Candidates undergoing PFT will do so at their own risk

10. Indian Coast Guard.

(a) Officers Entry. Preliminary Selection Board (PSB) and Final Selection Board (FSB) tests and Interview are conducted by Coast Guard for Officers entry. Testing pattern is based on SSB. However, outdoor Group and Command Tasks are not conducted by Final Selection Board. PSB & FSB are absolutely similar to SSB except GTO tasks. Medical Test for Coast Guard Officer Entry is same as for Navy

(b) Yantrik and Navik Entry

(i) Written Test- Yantrik. The written tests will be objective type. The questions paper will contain questions from their respective branch (Mechanical/ Electrical/ Electronics & Telecommunication) and will also include some questions of General knowledge, Reasoning aptitude & English.

(ii) Written Test- Navik will be of objective type, which will generally cover subjects such as Maths, Physics, basic Chemistry, knowledge of English upto 12th standard, General knowledge, current affairs, Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning.

(iii) Written Test- Navik (Domestic Branch) will be of objective type, which will generally cover subjects Quantitative Aptitude, Mathematics, General Sciences, General English, General Awareness (Current Affairs & General Knowledge) and Reasoning (Verbal & Non-Verbal).

(iv) Physical Fitness Test (PFT) for Navik/Yantriks will be conducted for all those who qualify the written tests. All candidates are advised to be in possession of sport rig i.e. Sport Shoe, T shirt, Trouser etc. Qualifying PFT as per the standards given below is compulsory. The PFT will consist as under:-

11. Paramilitary Forces (BSF, CRPF, CISF, SSB, ITBP)

(a) Written Test. Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) Assistant Commandants Examination is conducted by UPSC once a year. The details of test are as follows:-

(i) Paper I: General Ability and Intelligence – 250 Marks. The questions in these papers will be Objective (Multiple Answers) Type in which the questions will be set in English as well as Hindi. The exam will start from 10 a.m. to 12.00 pm. (ii) Paper II: General Studies, Essay and Comprehension – 200 Marks. In this paper candidates will be allowed the option of writing the Essay Component in English or Hindi, but the medium of Precis Writing, Comprehension Components and other communications / language skills will be English only. The exam will start from 2.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m.

(b) Physical Standards/Physical Efficiency Tests. The candidates declared qualified in the written examination will be summoned for Physical Standards/ Physical Efficiency Tests and Medical Standards Tests. Those candidates will be put through the Physical Efficiency Tests as indicated below: -

(i) 100 Meters race :Male (16 Sec.) & Female (18 Sec.) (ii) 800 Meters race :Male (3min & 45 sec), Female (4 Min, 45Sec) (iii) Long Jump :Male (3.5 m-3 chances), Female (3 m, 3 chances) (iv) Shot Put :Male (7.26 Kgs., 6 m), Female (7.26 kg, 4.5 Meters)

(c) Personality/Intelligence Interview – All the candidates who pass above tests will be summoned for a personal interview at UPSC. After satisfying the officials of the suitability for the post, the candidates will be recruited as Assistant Commandant.

Physical Fitness Training 1. Physical Fitness Training will be conducted thrice a week except Saturday/Sundays/Holidays for 60 days. 2. Physical Fitness Test/Physical Efficiency Test (PFT/PET) will be conducted as and when required by qualified instructors. 3. PFT/PET will cover running, jogging, long jump, high jump, sit ups, squat ups, pull ups, Shot put, physical exercise and practice on Military Obstacle Race structures.

2. Military Obstacle Race Infrastructure. The following arrangements/structures will be available with Institute for Outdoor Military Obstacle race training of students: -

(a) Burma Bridge, (b) Commando Walk Bridge (c) Tarzan Jump, Tiger Leap (d) Rope Climbing Structure (e) Zig zag Beam balance arrangement (f) Pull up Beam (g) Long Jump, High Jump and Running Ground

3. Additional Facilities.

Training Methodology. 1. The training methodology is divided in three modules as indicated below: -
