Alan Musilek spent about 45-60 minutes on the phone answering all my questions about the teen driver ed course. I was so impressed I cancelled the 5 Star course we had already signed up for. After reading through the Defensive Driving Specialists website and the information we received when we signed the contract, I was even more impressed. His credentials and training are really good. His method of teaching defensive driving and not just how to drive is what I want for my son. My son will be driving for the rest of his life, so what he learns now is really important. I am glad I took the time to call Alan. I would rather my son learn as much as he can about driving and not just the basics. Well today I turned over the keys to a graduate of Defensive Driving School. When she returned to the DMV after the road test..there was a huge smile on her face. I don't know where to start. This class was awesome. The information coming at us was allot, but is TOTALLY worth it in the long-run. I know there are allot of other drivers-ed classes throughout Burlington, but this class is by far the best class you could ever take. When my son was ready to get his driver’s license we had a few choices. We decided on defensive driving school. The school seemed a bit more personable and had a strong belief in kids driving safely for life. When my sons long wait to go for his driving test finally ended. There was a snow storm. This was the first time he was experiencing driving like this. First instinct was to cancel but the wait to reschedule his road test was not worth it. When we got to the dmv we waited Kyle's turn... I watched as the road test guy came back with a teen, shaken and upset. Though they tried to be private and quiet the officer was clearly upset and was failing the new to be driver. However when he returned the officers not only passed him but came to me and said that he was the first to be passed and that if our kids can't drive on these roads like today then they shouldn't have a license. It had been a few years so I had forgotten what a commitment Drivers Education was going to be, so I failed to sign my 3rd son up during summer, like I should have. He began the class this fall after school and quite frankly, at first we were irritated at the amount of time involved. Many of my friend's kids took what I call "drive-thru drivers ed". They criticized the hours involved as well. Throughout the classroom portion, my son struggled to do well on tests and such because he is shy and didn't participate in class or ask the appropriate questions. Toward the end of the class, Mr. Musilek expressed his concern over whether Jack was going to pass or not. He said he was willing to work with Jack and just told him to hang in there, that eventually it would all come together; what he was teaching and applying it to actual driving. Jack began to participate more in class and studied hard to pass the last few tests. He passed the course. The amazing thing is that when he began driving with us (after he got his permit), all of what Mr. Musilek taught him clicked and it translated into his driving. He often times quotes what Mr. Musilek said to explain why he's doing something or relay what he learned. He has become quite confident behind the wheel because he's always cautious and thinks things through. He enjoys driving and asks to drive with us. I'm so glad Jack stuck the class out and would highly recommend Mr. Musilek's class to anyone concerned about their own safety because he is a thorough and highly competent teacher. My son Lucas took this class and as he was going through the class and driving with his permit, I noticed he drove with an increased sense of defense and awareness of his surroundings. I feel quite certain that as he continues driving, he will not lose what he has learned and been taught by this class. I have another son who took other instruction elsewhere. He drives well but I don't feel he drives as defensively as Lucas. He drives safely but is much more lacks-a-daisy about his driving. I have one more son who will take this course when he is of driving age because I feel it is worth the money plus the information and knowledge that is being taught is thorough and complete. Before taking Mr. Musilek's class, I thought driving looked so easy. After taking the class, I found out that driving wasn't only pushing pedals and moving the steering wheel. I found out that you not only have to

My 19 year old son took this class when he was ready to start driving and he turned out to be a very responsible driver. I made a HUGE mistake by sending my middle son to CESA; he has had his license for 5 months now and has already gotten a speeding ticket and a no seat belt ticket. I finished my behind the wheel on June 2nd. In the beginning of drivers ed I thought this was going to be a breeze. Then I started talking to people about it and they told me how hard it was going to be. When I first went to class I was like oh boy. But Mr. Musilek is very easy to warm up to. He is funny and is an amazing teacher! He most definitely knows what he is talking about. The class turned out not being that hard. You will do fine if you listen to him in class, participate, and STUDY YOUR NOTES!! I got lucky enough to have Mr. Musilek as my behind the wheel teacher =] Unlike other schools we actually got to drive in many different environments. If it was safe to do so, Mr. Musilek would let you make your mistake so you would learn from it for next time. Now of course if anyone was going to get hurt he would stop you before you do it. He isn't teaching drivers ed for the money, he is only in it for our safety! If money is an issue just talk to him, he is more than willing to work something out. I recommend his class over all the other schools because not only does he teach you to drive, he teaches you to drive defensively. You cannot learn what you learn with him anywhere else. My internet has been down for awhile now so I apologize for not writing earlier. Trust me on this one, this is the best class you can take. You might say I want to do it in a shorter amount of time. This was probably one of the best decisions for me to make in taking this class. I was extremely impressed with the quality of the teaching, curriculum, and methods used. Mr. Musilek is one of the best teachers you'll find and he knows what he is talking about. You are exposed to various locations of driving so that you are thoroughly taught and given experience. This class is an excellent class. I see myself telling my parents what they are doing wrong and when I am driving and they tell me to do something I know the right way to do it. Dear Al, I want to thank you very much for the excellent drivers education my young adults have received. Over the past several decades six children of my friend's have lost their lives within their first year and a half of driving. That prompted me to look for the John Wayne of driver’s education. After my long search, I finally found him, and that was you, Al Musilek. Thank you very much for your very forward, aggressive, intelligent, no sugar-coated...defensive driver's education. You are saving many lives. I would also like to share my experience of driving with my daughter who has her permit. We have driven with and without the magnetic "Student Driver" signs on the rear and both sides of the car. We have driven into very congested areas of traffic in and around Schaumberg, Illinois. When we had the signs on, people paid much more attention to our turn signals and allowed us room for changing lanes, even during rush hour traffic. Also with the signs, when you look in the rear view mirror, you can see space behind your vehicle during rush hour traffic. Other drivers are much more courteous and cautious when the "Student Driver" magnetic signs are displayed on our car. Defensive Driving was one of the hardest classes that I have taken. My son (16) totaled our new car about one month ago. He was cited for failure to yield the right of way. He is fine but the car and his license (my decision) are gone. As a single parent I want him to have his license and be able to support the family's ongoing needs. I don't believe that just not driving is going to make him a better driver. I would like to offer him the opportunity to earn and learn his license back through your program. Where is Genoa City? Can this training be done on the weekends? I went through the driver ed classes and behind the wheel with Mr.Musilek and I thought it was both fun and helpful. I feel his attitude towards not just good driving, but also defensive driving was very serious. His students should take his classes very seriously, because driving is not easy. And when you are behind the wheel with him you need to know the information that was taught in class. I tried to remember everything, but the things I had trouble with he helped me through, and made me try scenarios again until I fully understood what to do and when to do it. And I'm thankful for that, because when I have my license and I am put in to that position I will know EXACTLY what to do, and not have to worry about putting myself and others in a position for an accident. I feel that he helped to point out my trouble spots, so I can become a more responsible and careful driver. I know now that there is always a car coming, and to always take that second look!
