With great sadness, we report the passing of one of the founders of DeFranco Insurance. Theresa DeFranco, the wife of Lou , and mother to Mike, Jim, Dan, Peggy, John, and Mary, passed away February 6th. Lou and Theresa began DeFranco Insurance Agen-cy in 1953, where Theresa did the accounting for the office. She touched many deeply with a twinkle in her Irish eyes, and her genuine laughter. The world is truly a better place because of her presence.

Insurance Trivia
Your Homeowner policy covers valuable items such as
jewelry, fine art, antiques, guns, electronics, musical instru-
ments and other items, but only up to set limits. If there is
a loss, you will also pay your deductible, unless these
items are scheduled. Most Insurance companies will typi-
cally cover up to the following amounts for these items:
$1,500 for theft of jewelry, watches, furs, precious
and semi-precious stones per item. Mysterious disap-
pearance may or may not be covered.
$2,500 theft of silverware, silver-plated, gold ware,
gold-plated ware, and pewter ware.
$2,500 for stolen firearms
Check your home policy, and if you would like to schedule
your valuable items for a higher amount than currently cov-
ered, please let us know.

Insurance Trivia Answers
Question A: Yes, this is consid-
ered a violation and could af-
fect your insurance premium.
Question B. Motorists are re-
quired to yield to bicyclists.. You
may use bicycle lanes when
necessary to turn. but otherwise
not drive or park in bike lanes.
Question C. In most cases this is
a separate policy. There is no
coverage for Earthquake Dam-
age in a Home Policy.
Question D. Good Student Dis-
count is for children up to 25
year olds for most carriers.
Question E. Yes, you do not
have to be of driving age to be
considered a passenger for car
pool lanes
Question F. No, your landlord’s
policy does not cover your per-
sonal items.
Question G. Yes, his/her license
may be suspended until he/she
are 18, if he/she receive over
two violations.
Question H. You need to make
sure your policy covers mysteri-
ous disappearances, and then,
most carriers have a limit of
$2,000 for watches and you
would have to pay the deducti-
ble also.
Question I. Yes, if he is living in
the dorm, his laptop is covered
under your home policy. See
your policy for more infor-
mation.
Question J. Flood and/or land-
slide coverage is a separate poli-
cy—so your homeowner policy
would not cover it.
Question K. Anytime you have
an insurance question!
Consider this – the minimum limits required by Washington State for auto insur-
ance is $25,000 per person for bodily injury and $50,000 per accident for bodily
injury along with $10,000 per accident for property damage. If you cause inju-
ries or damage above your policy limits, the money to settle the claim comes out
of your pocket. Few cards on the road are valued at $10,000 or less . Also hospi-
tal bills can quickly exceed $25,000.
It is the right thing to do
You are broke, and the saying “Can’t squeeze blood out of a turnip,” applies to
your finances. If you have an accident causing extreme damages, would you
want to pay for it with insurance money from proper auto insurance, versus
having to pay for it out of your pocket? This way, your assets and future earn-
ings are protected.
Keep the Insurance Company defending You
If you cause a large claim, your policy will cover the legal expenses if you are
sued. There is no limit on the amount of attorney fees that are covered under
the policy, therefore at least $50,000 of legal fees will be paid. There is a catch
however, the policy states that when the insurance company exhausts the liabil-
ity limit, they do not have to defend you any longer. If it appears that the legal
fees are going to be huge, the insurance company may cut their losses by paying
out the liability limits. In order to keep the insurance company paying for the
large legal fees – purchase high liability limits.

Buying higher auto limits is seldom important…
UNTIL IT IS.
