In addion, a wide array of microcomputers, workstaons, and computer clusters are available. Graduate students oſten also perform interdisci- plinary research work in the Materials Research Laboratory, Micro and Nanotechnology Labora- tory, Coordinated Science Laboratory, Naonal Center for Supercompung Applicaons, and Beckman Instute for Advanced Science and Technology. Degrees Aerospace Engineering offers graduate programs leading to Master of Science and Doctor of Philoso- phy Degrees. The following opons are available: Master of Science non-thesis (1-year program; self-sup- ported) Master of Science non-thesis Aerospace Systems Engi- neering Opon (1-year program; self-supported) Master of Science with thesis Doctor of Philosophy Direct Doctor of Philosophy Opportunity exists for specializing in the Computa- onal Science and Engineering (CSE) Opon. A joint MBA program is also available. The Medical Scholars Program allows qualified students to integrate studying medicine for a graduate degree in a second discipline including Aerospace Engineering. Areas of Study Programs in Aerospace Engineering provide flexibility for students to design their own course of study in consultaon with their advisor. Students may pursue research and/or coursework-based studies in areas including: Aerodynamics Aeroelascity Combuson Computaonal Mechanics Control and Esmaon Dynamical Systems Fluid Mechanics Informaon Technology Materials Propulsion Robocs Structural Mechanics/ Structural Dynamics Aerospace Systems Engineering Aerospace Engineering is pleased to pro- vide a recently developed Master of Sci- ence program in Aerospace Systems Engi- neering. This self-funded program may be completed in one academic year, and will provide students with a strong foundaon in the methods and tools involved in the definion and management of complex muldisciplinary aerospace design proj- ects. Students enrolled in the program will receive a Master of Science Degree in Aerospace Engineering with a cerficate in Systems Engineering. Funding/Support Aerospace Engineering offers funding in the form of research and teaching assis- tantships, as well as campus and departmental fellowships. Most forms of support include a tuion and fee waiver. The graduate admission applicaon is also your applicaon for funding opportunies. Aerospace Engineering encourages students to apply for external government and industry fellowships. Student Organizaons and Projects Student organizaons including the American Instute of Aeronaucs and Astro- naucs (AIAA), Sigma Gamma Tau, and Illinois Space Society (ISS) provide oppor- tunies for professional development. Graduate students may provide leadership for student projects/ compeons such as CubeSat, Formula Hybrid Car, and mod- el aircraſt Design-Build-Fly. Admission Aerospace Engineering graduate programs are open to engineering, mathemacs, and physical sciences students with a grade point average of at least 3.0 (4.0 scale) for the last two years of undergraduate work and any graduate work completed. Transcripts and three leers of recommendaon are required. The Graduate Re- cord Exam (GRE) is also required. Applicaon deadline is January 15 for full con- sideraon for fall admission with financial aid. The applicaon deadline for spring admission is October 8.
