38. Best Practices of the institute:-

Managing an educational institute is a part of social service. The education

society and management of the institute has a straight forward approach

towards it. Dehgam is educationally as well as economically backward

region. The students are coming from rural background but they are

talented and capable to perform well in studies as well as extra curricular

activities. To promote the student’s academic, cultural, sports and other

achievements in social services our institute provides rewards every year in

form of various scholarships. This is given to the students on 26th January

Prize distribution ceremoney. This practice is going on since many years

and has helped the students in many aspects. This has also encouraged

the new comers. As a result of it, the students are showing keen interest in

sports, cultural activities and studies. The institute is 40 years old and has

developed rapidly and steadily during these years. It has earned the

reputation of being the only institute imparting quality higher education in

the taluka. The institute observes following best practices;

PRAYER: Every day as the institute begins with a prayer which is

conducted through a centralized mike system in the building. All the

students along with the teacher in-charge stand up and join the prayer.

SCHOLARSHIPS: financial assistance to the economically backward and

weaker students is provided by the trusties of the institute on the regular

basis.

REMEDIAL CLASSES: Remedial lectures are arranged in the regular

time table during the zero period for not only the economically and socially

backward students but also for the slow learners. This practice not only

helps such students to cope up with the syllabus but also to boost up their

morale.

LENDING THE COLLEGE AUDITORIUM AND PREMISES: Since

the institute is one of the most reputed and well developed unit in the

region, it is also endowed with a systematic infrastructure. The biggest

asset among this is the Auditorium built in the 725.330 sq. mtr. area with

the expenditure of Rs.55 lakhs. This Auditorium is not only used for all the

college function and extracurricular activities but also indispensably lent to

the other social bodies and clubs like Youth club, Rotary club and the

Govt. offices. It is a credit to the college.

Other than this the college premises is also used by the local governing

authorities for the elections.

The infrastructure and learning resources are integral components of any

effective learning process. The methods in vogue should be adopted/

adapted by all the institutes to solve this purpose. Following innovations are

undertaken by the institute;

Building the most well equipped and modernized centre for interactive

learning (auditorium) for extension activities in the year 2005.

Arrangement of visual shows for the students through DVDs and CDs

apart from the live shows for DBAOU students.

For the T.Y. B. A. students of Hindi, for better exposure of literature, screening

of some plays (Suraj ka saatwa ghoda) and stage performances has also

been organized since last year.

Apart from imparting teaching in classrooms we promote the learners for

assignment almost all the departments follow this practice. The learners are

asked to complete the assignments and show it to the concerning subject

teacher. This helps the learners to prepare for the examination and keep them

away with the unauthentic guides available in the market.

The final year students are also encouraged to prepare their paper for the

departmental seminars. The topics are allotted by the teachers to the students

and they are asked to present the paper in presence of all the students and

subject teachers. This inculcates presentation skill among the learners.

39. Linkages developed with:-

Yes, the institution has recently signed MoUs with the other agencies Like IIHT-

Gandhinagar, AMA, Ahmedabad for job Placement and Extension activities.

ACADEMIC TASK

our own academic calendar according to University academic calendar

that includes Teaching plans, Shedual for co-curricular activity,

Departmental seminars, Faculty improvement plans, Sports activity,

Guests lectures and Job placement seminars.

Assignment and project work is a regular phenomena of the teaching

method in Commerce and the subjects of humanities.

Almost all the teachers participate and present papers in the various

Seminars and workshops held in the colleges. They are encouraged by

the Principal to go for post doctoral work and to submit minor research

project proposal to UGC.

Almost Every department organises two student seminar in a academic

year, where-in the students are allotted topics by the concerning teacher

for the presentation.

To create innovative atmosphere in the various departments we have

established Study circle in HINDI as well as GUJARATI department from

the current academic year.

Students’ feedback is taken at the end of the second term every year.

English being the global language, career development is almost

unimaginable without achieving fluency over this language. Hence, for

providing flaw-less over all personality development, an English speaking

course has been successfully started since 2005-06.

We have put the demand for a language laboratory in our college twice to

the Commissioner’s office but it has not been sanctioned to us.

Student attendance is practiced in the college. Absentees are informed by

letter.

For research the teachers are promoted to utilise the financial assistance

of UGC for minor/major Research projects. This year two departments

have taken initiative and one department is organising a state level

seminars.

We will encourage every teacher to publish at least one or two research

paper in the popular journals.

FOR PLACEMENT

The institute has developed linkage and signed MOUs with many NGOs,

industries and corporate agencies for the job placements. For helping the learners in

finding job we organise JOB FAIR every year in collaboration with such NGOs and held

interviews in the campus. The documents for such activities are kept and the learners

are motivated to appear in such interviews.

A training seminar is also organised before Job Fair to develop the learners and

encourage the learners to learn the attitude, target, skill to work in the corporate

world.

A alumni association is also formed in the college to link the present students to

the past students. They also help the present students in finding job

opportunities.

A profile of the students who needs job is prepared by the college; it includes the

area of their choice for the job. The profile of the students has been sent to a

special CELL formed by the Higher education dept. of Gujarat state.

A STITCH IN TIME

In the era of constant challenges, the affiliation of various computer courses with

Ambedkar Open University and IGNOU, New Delhi provided the necessary competitive

as well as academic strength. During the academic year 2005-06 the college obtained

affiliation of the various certificate courses of computer. Apart from that a diploma

course of finance management and Bachelor of business administration have also been

started from the academic year 2007-08 in the programme center of Ambedkar Open

University. Similarly college has obtained affiliation from IGNOU offering BCA (Bachelor

of Computer application)from the academic year,2009-10. These courses are running

under the auspices of Sarabhai Hathibhai Amin Institute for Management studies.

On account of the rapid expansion and massive rush of the students towards

English subject, it has become significant to offer English as main subject at UG level in

Arts faculty. President Shri Mangalbhai Patel, himself was honoured Lord Reaye award

for his excellent English who had a latent dream to propel the course of English

literature at UG level. So with the donation from M. P. Patel Foundation, Shri M. P.Patel

Institute of English was established in 2005.

DEHGAM TALUKA EDUCATION SOCIETY: THE EPITOME OF EDUCATION

1961: This epitome of enlightenment was propounded by the Dehgam Taluka

Education Society when there was a vacuum for the facility of higher education institute

that could render services in the field. The motto of the society was to access the youth

with a perennial source of scholastic study and multifarious activities for the growth and

development in each and every field of life. Shri Vithhalbhai P.Amin, the pioneer of the

institute and an astute businessman and public leader of Gujarat had established Shri

M.B.College of Commerce and Shri G.M.N. Arts College in a rented building with his

rigorous efforts in 1966. With his continuous guidance and impeccable vision, he

succeeded in constructing a beautiful educational institute in 1968. Within the short

span of time, the college has grown up in lush green atmosphere with a well furnished

and well equipped Library named as Purshottamdas Jivabhai Amin. This library

comprises a huge Reading hall for the teachers and students, apart from Maniben

Tribhovandas Hostel and staff quarters.

1983: Shri Mangalbhai Patel, an eminent and adroit administrator in Income tax

department of India has wielded the charge as President of the society. It is his

advanced vision and prudent decision that has resulted into plush flow of funds and

sound fiscal fitness to the institution. To add vibrancy to the campus and to meet the

requirement for conducting cultural activities he erected an open air Rang bhavan

named as Kamlaben Ambalal Amin Rang manch.

A MODEL INSTITUTE FOR COMPUTER SCIENCE

1985: The year 1985 witnessed a sudden urge to develop a well equipped

computer center to meet the rapid technological advancement. This has resulted into

the construction of a separate building named as Ravjibhai H. Desai Computer House

with the donation of a well-known, Pune based industrialist, Desai Brothers. Today

many short term diploma and certificate courses of computer are successfully running in

the computer house.

FURTHER WIDENING HORIZONS OF EDUCATION

Taking cognizance of the time and accomplishing the need to furnish the institute

with advanced techniques of teaching and learning through audio visual tools and

communication as well as by conducting seminars and workshops, Shri Ratibhai

C.Patel and his family (U.S.A) donated for erecting Gitaben Patel Center for Interactive

Learning. The foundation stone of the center was laid on 13th August,2004 and was

inaugurated by Union textile minister Shri Shankarsinh Waghela on the auspicious day

of Vijayadashmi, in the year 2005. The auditorium has enabled us to keep pace with

ever widening educational flow. This has a capacity of around 450 seats and will be a

place for various conferences, seminars and cultural programmes.

A STITCH IN TIME

In the era of constant challenges, the affiliation of various computer courses with

Ambedkar Open University provided the necessary competitive as well as academic

strength. During the academic year 2005-06 the college obtained affiliation of the

various certificate courses of computer. Apart from that a diploma course of finance

management and Bachelor of business administration have also been started from the

academic year 2007-08 in the programme center of Ambedkar Open University. These

courses are running under the auspices of Sarabhai Hathibhai Amin Institute for

Management studies. From the last academic year the center has got affiliation of BCA

(Bachelor of computer application) by IGNOU,New Delhi. The first batch comprises 20

students and 18 students have enrolled for the first semester this year.

English being the global language, career development is almost unimaginable

without achieving fluency over this language. Hence, for providing flaw-less over all

personality development, an English speaking course has been successfully started

since 2005-06.

On account of the rapid expansion and massive rush of the students towards

for his excellent English who had a latent dream to propel the course of English

literature at UG level. So with the rush of donation from M.P.Patel Foundation, Shri

M.P.Patel Institute of English was established in 2005.

constant growth and steady progress much is to be done because there are miles to go

PART B:

37. Activities reflecting goals and objectives of the institution:-

The epitome of enlightenment was propounded by the Dehgam Taluka Education

Society when there was a vacuum for the facility of higher education institute that could

render services in the field. The motto of the society was to access the youth with a

perennial source of scholastic study and multifarious activities for the growth and

development in each and every field of life.

In the year August, 2008, our institution had undergone accreditation by NAAC. It

was a unique experience which geared us towards the improvement. After the

accreditation process we arrange a meeting of the staff members and formed a Quality

Assurance Cell. During the academic year our college has tried the best to implement

the suggestions given by Peer Team in various aspects.

To keep pace with the demand of the Taluka the College has taken initiative to start

PG Center for Gujarati. The proposal for that has been submitted to University. Apart

from that, we have got the sanction for IGNOU study center. We have proposed for

BCA, Certificate for disaster management, Creative writing in English, Diploma in

translation courses. BCA programmes have been commenced from July,09. Total 30

students are enrolled for the course so far.

The institution keeps the core values intact through some innovative

modifications in the curriculum and implementing them in the form of various

celebrations and events.

Prize distribution ceremony. This practice is going on since many years

and has helped the students in many aspects. This has also encouraged

the new comers. As a result of it, the students are showing keen interest in

sports, cultural activities and studies. The institute is 40 years old and has

developed rapidly and steadily during these years. It has earned the

reputation of being the only institute imparting quality higher education in

the taluka. The institute observes following best practices;

PRAYER: Every day as the institute begins with a prayer which is

conducted through a centralized mike system in the building. All the

students along with the teacher in-charge stand up and join the prayer.

SCHOLARSHIPS: financial assistance to the economically backward and

weaker students is provided by the trusties of the institute on the regular

basis.

REMEDIAL CLASSES: Remedial lectures are arranged apart from the

regular time table after the college hours for not only the economically and

socially backward students but also for the slow learners. This practice not

only helps such students to cope up with the syllabus but also to boost up

their morale.

Following innovations are

undertaken by the institute;

Apart from imparting teaching in classrooms we promote the learners for

assignment almost all the department follow this practice.

39. Linkages developed with:- The institution has recently signed MoUs with

the Muktajivan Disater Management Academy ahemdabad and IIHT Gandhinagar,

AMA, Ahmedabad for job Placement and Extension activities.

ACADEMIC TASK

With the commencement of the new academic year our institute design

our own academic calendar according to University academic calendar

that includes Teaching plans, Shedual for co-curricular activity,

Departmental seminars, Faculty improvement plans, Sports activity,

Guests lectures and Job placement seminars.

Assignment and project work is regular phenomena of the teaching

method in Commerce and the subjects of humanities.

For helping the

learners in finding job we organise JOB FAIR every year in collaboration with

such NGOs and held interviews in the campus. The documents for such

activities are kept and the learners are motivated to appear in such interviews.

28 Best Practices of the

College

(A) BEST PRCTICES IN CURICULAR ASPECT.

The curriculum of any educational discipline

doesn’t imply only syllabus teaching. It is also

reflected in the overall daily activities of the

institute. One such noble act observed daily in the

college is PRAYER. Every day in the college

begins with prayer which is recited along with a

common network of sound system which joins

every class room. This practice is strictly and

religiously observed everyday and managed by

the discipline committee.

Apart from offering major subjects at U.G. level,

introduction of self-financed Main English subject

at U.G. level is the best practice in this aspect.

Though the affiliation is given on self-financed

basis, our institute doesn’t charge the fees which

other self-financed institutes charge. Instead, the

regular fee recommended by the University is

charged from the students and all the expenses

(B) BEST PRACTICES IN TEACHING AND LEARNING

of such students are born by the college

management. This is practiced keeping into mind

the socio-economic background of the learner of

the Taluka. To opt for this subject learners of our

Taluka have to go to other colleges so our

management decided to run the course by

charging regular fees which is affordable to the

learners of this backward area.

Apart from imparting teaching in classrooms we

promote the learners for assignment almost all the

department follow this practice. The learners are

asked to complete the assignments and show it to

the concerning subject teacher. This helps the

learners to prepare for the examination and keep
