DEHN protectsDEHN’s key objectives are to protect people’s lives and ma-terial assets. For more than 100 years, our pioneering spirit and innovative engineering have defined and established us as worldwide market leaders in the field of lightning and surge protection. To this end, our solutions combine industry specific knowledge with long-standing technical expertise in surge protection, lightning protection and safety equipment. Our economically and technically reliable lightning and surge protection products maximize system availability while pro-tecting your investments and process yields for many years.
The BLITZDUCTOR SP surge protective devices (SPD) are a perfect example of the efficiency, quality and safety of our products.
BLITZDUCTOR® SP – a multi-purpose SPD
Combined with the BLITZDUCTOR XT (920 300) base part, each BLITZDUCTOR SP protection module is ready for DIN rail mounting taking only 12 mm of rail space. The universal base part minimizes storage requirements and eases wiring and maintenance operations. The base part metallically bonds the arrester module to the rail allowing for easy grounding of the arrester.
BLITZDUCTOR® SP is reliable
BLITZDUCTOR SP ensures maximum system availability since the modules can be replaced without signal interrup-tion (hot-swappable). All protection elements are integ-rated in the module, thus facilitating easy replacement and maintenance. 1, 2, 3, or 4 wire protection schemes are possible with the wide variety of available arrester modules.
BLITZDUCTOR® SP is robust
Thanks to its snap-in mechanism, the SPD provides protec-tion against vibration effects and mechanical shock up to a 30-fold acceleration of gravity. The function-optimized de-sign allows for easy replacement of SPD modules. Though mechanically strong in its function, each SPD module can easily be removed by squeezing the side tabs to unlock the module. Insertion is easy and secure when the mechanical “click” is heard and felt.
BLITZDUCTOR® SP is versatile
The BLITZDUCTOR SP family of products were tested in third-party test laboratories according to application and country-specific requirements and standards. Their suita-bility for different fields of application was also tested, for example the use of BLITZDUCTOR SP has SIL ratings for use in systems requiring high reliability and safety. The BLITZ-DUCTOR SP is also UL 497 listed.
BLITZDUCTOR® SP
• protects against the adverse effects of lightning currents and surge voltages• is capable of protecting terminal equipment• allows easy replacement of modules• takes up minimal space thanks to its functional design• is shock and vibration-resistant

Control and switchgear cabinets have limited space. For this reason, the base part and the protection modules are compact in design and thus ideal for DIN rail mounting. Since the base part can be used for every type of module, storage requirements are minimized. Over a width of only 12 mm, up to four single lines or two pairs can be connected on two vertical levels. For DIN rail mounting purposes, lines of a pair belonging to each other are connected on top of one another (vertically).
The function-optimized arrester design allows to safely plug the protection module into the base part and to remove it without problems. The module is secured in the base part by snapping it in (audible click). Verified by a third party test laboratory, this snap-in mechanism ensures safe operation even in case of vibration effects and mechanical shock up to a 30-fold acceleration of gravity. A module release spring and laminated spring contacts in the base part allows for easy removal of the module by pressing the side-mounted grey module release buttons. A mechanical reverse polarity protection ensures that a module is always installed in the correct position.
The BLITZDUCTOR XT (920 300) base part is a four-pole uni-versal feed-through terminal for insertion of the protection module without signal interruption. Since no components of the protective circuit are integrated in the base part, mainte-nance operation is only required for the protection modules. This allows modules to be replaced without interrupting the signal circuit (hot-swappable).
• Lightning current carrying laminated contacts
• Leading/retarded make-before-break switch contacts for uninterrupted removal and insertion without downtime
• Mechanical reverse polarity protection ensures that the module is installed in the correct position
• Module release spring for removing the protection module without problems
• The earthing foot ensures cost-effective installation. No additional ground connection is required since the device is safely grounded via the DIN rail.
• Clear identification of the “protected“side ensures correct wiring
• A designated “white” space for marking the circuits
• High-quality four-pole screw terminals, stranded up to a cross-section of 2.5 mm2 (14 AWG), solid up to a cross-section of 4 mm2 (12 AWG) and as small as 0.08mm2 (28 AWG).
Universal: A single base part for every module
Robust:Snap-in mechanismmakes the arrester vibration andshock-resistant
Reliable: Make-before-break switch contacts

Accessory for BLITZDUCTOR® SP
Accessory for use in non-hazardous areas
1 BXT M4 E earthing moduleThe plugged-in earthing (grounding) module connects all lines connected to the BLITZDUCTOR XT base part with the equipotential bonding system. This module provides the abi-lity to directly earth (ground) unused wires that are already connected to the base part. This earthing (grounding) helps keep lightning currents that enters these unused wires from propagating further into the control panel and its associated equipment.
• To be plugged into BLITZDUCTOR XT base parts• Easy to use• Quick retrofitting of a protection module by simply replacing the earthing module
2 BXT M4 T test / disconnection moduleThe plugged-in test / disconnection module interrupts the cable run of the lines connected to the BLITZDUCTOR XT base part and leads them to a test socket at the front of the module. This allows a technician to carry out measurements in the system without un-wiring the circuit from the base part.
• To be plugged into BLITZDUCTOR XT base parts• Easy maintenance and troubleshooting• Measuring leads (920 394) are included and available as a replacement or additional accessory
3 SAK BXT LR shield terminalsTwo spring terminals for the protected and unprotected side of a BLITZDUCTOR SP arrester ensure permanent low impedance shield contact in a signal circuit. An insulating cap allows indirect shield earthing.
• Capable of carrying lightning currents• Low-impedance flat conductor• Flexible spring terminal
4 Constant Force SpringsComing in various sizes to accommodate various cable dia-meters, the constant force spring is an accessory to facilitate bonding the shield of a multi-conductor cable to earth/ground.
• Capable of carrying 10 kA of 10/350μs lightning currents• For solderless connection of a shield to an earthing/grounding cable• Stainless steel construction
5 Grounding Conductor TerminalThis terminal block is designed to earth/ground the DIN rail. The screw down terminal will securely bond the terminal block to the DIN rail allowing for an earthing/grounding conductor to be installed. This terminal also serves as a end cap to a string of DIN rail components preventing the shifting of the DIN rail components over time.
• Capable of carrying lightning currents• For wires sizes of 6 mm2 (10 AWG) to 16 mm2 (6 AWG) high strand count wire• 12 mm wide, wire terminals on both sides
