I. Read the following passage and answer the questions that follow.
Once there was an old king. He had a habit to ride his elephant to town daily. After the ride, he would
send the elephant to its trainer who would bathe it and feed it. One day, the king fell ill and his son who
saw no use in keeping the elephant decided to sell it to the circus. The elephant was very sad. Its trainer
said, “Don‟t be sad. You will be taught many tricks and you will be happy to see the children who will
love you.” As soon as it entered the ring, the children clapped their hands. When it did the tricks, they
laughed and clapped their hands. Everybody at the circus loved the elephant and it was happy travelling
across the country with the circus. On one of its trip, it arrived at its old hometown. On seeing the town,
it began to miss its trainer and the king. Its wish to see them grew stronger every day. One day while
everybody was fast asleep, it ran away from the circus. When it reached the palace, it was broken and it
looked so old! The elephant gave a long trumpet and turned back. Tears rolled down its eyes. Suddenly,
it heard somebody calling its name. It looked back and saw its trainer. Immediately it ran towards him
and lifted him onto its back. Then, it went back to the circus. Everybody at the circus was happy to see
the elephant whom they had been searching the whole morning. They even took the trainer in to train all
the other elephants in the circus.
